You described exactly what I've been doing the past 2 weeks. I interviewed for a cybersecurity internship and I guess I did well because rather than the internship, they offered me a full-time position as a SOC Analyst. They're going to train me but I still want to be as prepared as possible. I'm essentially using ChatGPT to design my own bootcamp. I'll ask "What are the 10 most important things a SOC Analyst should know about ____?" From there I document the topics I don't know enough about and find YT videos, reading material on Packt, or THM rooms to learn more.

For CISSP, you could take the test without the 5 year requirements. You just become an Associate of CISSP until you meet the 5-year requirement.

Hey Gerald, love your content and started following very recently. I watch your chat podcasts and videos when I have long drives, and it gave me a sense of direction in my major in Cybersecurity. I currently work as an IT Tech and just getting my certs and classes done. Another channel I love is the UnixGuy Channel. I commented on his post, recommending a collaboration with you, and he agreed. I would love to see a video of you two doing a podcast or a chat about Cybersecurity in general, tips for beginners, prospect for the field in the coming future, comparing certs and your opinions about the field coming in from different continents, and experience.

Can one with a violent felony work in cybersecurity? I was 16 years old when I caught the felon, I'm 26 now and I've turned into into somewhat of an IT nerd. I have a huge interest in infosec. Hopefully you can answer this question. This means alot to me...

If I want to do pen testing, is it advisable to start as a SOC Analyst?
@SimplyCyber Жыл бұрын
It’s not a terrible path. Of all the roles soc analyst would be good cuz you know how defenders workflows are for looking for bad

Hi Gerry I tried both ChatGPT and Bard. ChatGPT gave the more detailed answers. However, when I asked it to generate a 6 month study plan for a SOC analyst, broken down by week, hours and links to online resources and books, it got to month three before crashing. After 8 attempts, it still could not complete the plan. It never got past month 3. Shame, because those first three months looked really good.

I’ve found chatGPT chokes after a bit especially the free tier. But if you ask it give me month 1; enter; now give me month 2; enter…. That seems to work

@@SimplyCyber Good idea. I also found that many of the links did not work. I was still impressed though. The careers advice I got at school was next to useless. Wish I had this!

That was a great video, looking to get the ChatGPT paid version so it can provide me with links and references because the free version does not 😅 What role would you recommend me getting in for changing careers? I am an SAP ERP Logistics consultant but really my passion has always been coding and tech. I actually competed in a few CTFs back in college. Looking to get my CEH this year, Cyberthreat Intel and Forensics is interesting for me also
@SimplyCyber Жыл бұрын
World is your oyster. If you're looking for the fastest way in, I'd argue auditor or pentester (two wildly different roles), but either of those with a focus on SAP ERP for large businesses, espceically publicly traded ones that may need COBIT SOX compliance needs. Scout out professinal services (the big ones like booz, accenture, deloitte) for the roles. Just a way to shortcut the process based on your existing exp.

Gerry, Do you have any thoughts on the new Google Cybersecurity Certificate program? Is it a good place to start for a newbie? I'm a retired firefighter and am looking into a possible 2nd career in cybersecurity. Thanks!
@SimplyCyber Жыл бұрын
2nd career in cyber. go for it. google cyber cert, idk much about. Google is good, but ive heard there are some hidden fees with that one so be mindful. also i have a video on the channel of first responder to cyber (paramedic) you may find useful. If i was thinking firefighter, you prob fit nicely into SOC analyst / IR role, you are basically dealing with peoples worst day, every day. just like a firefighter dealing with ahomeoowners whos home is burning down.
@bryanr1776 Жыл бұрын
@Gerald Auger, PhD - Simply Cyber Thank for responding! I will look into the fees for Google. All I have seen is $49/mo & one week free trial. They say most can complete in less than 6 months.
@SimplyCyber Жыл бұрын
thats the fee im talking about. they were advertising it as FREE and not disclsoing its only for the first week. 6 months is a relative term in our industry too. if you lean into it you can do it faster, (if your life allwos)
@bryanr1776 Жыл бұрын
@Gerald Auger, PhD - Simply Cyber Ya, as of now, they are showing the free trial and the $49 per month after the 7 day trial when you click on the enroll button. Thanks for your advice! I'll check out your first responder video as well.
