The Jamestown Ferry is located on the James River near the first English settlement in Virginia. It is down river from the Colonial Capital of Williamsburg and up river from the port city of Newport News. The ferry transports automobile traffic across the James River to Scotland Wharf. Have ridden the ferry many times. The James River empties into the Chesapeake Bay near Norfolk, Virginia. Not a mountain in sight unless you count Mt. Trashmore in nearby Virginia Beach.

I really like Charley Crockett and listen to him often. It's interesting how he sounds like he has a slight speech impediment when he sings, but there's no trace at all when he speaks in an interview. Anyway, just an observation of a great singer!

Tanya did the original in 1972. This cover by Charley Crockett is by far superior to the original. @rockn2country, Don do you let the video and imagery influence your appreciation of the song? I ask because I think this songs so much better but I was thinking 8.2-8.5 at best ..... I was listening to the song and not watching the video. I am also biased because I've known Tanya version forever and never liked it. The original is not significantly different. Tanya had an old west kinds southern feel to it. In my mind I always pictured a ferry in an old western movie. I always thought the song was boring and dull but I've never been a big Tanya fan either. Charley must have felt the same western vibe because he carried it into the wardrobe and setting on video. Musically this is stonger, he has a nice steel solo that the original did not. His vocals have more feel, emotion in them. Much more interesting to me. So I'm biased by my history with the original. We're you influenced by the video? Does that cause you to rate the song higher? I really did like this. I like Charley's voice. For Tanya a much better song is, Oh what it did to me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHebhY2kbtmLfbc

Love this when Tanya Tucker recorded it. We will see if this holds up. Very cool that he is related to Davey Crockett. There's a Jamestown TN but don't think this is it though it's on the WV border and in the mountains. These Mts don't look like TN Mts they look like Colorado Mts.

Don: Thank you for bringing this song to my attention. Charlie did a great rendition of this classic song. His vocals were fantastic. Although the lyrics were changed to suit a male singer I believe that was the only change in the lyrics. The melody was slightly different to suit his voice. Overall I really enjoyed this. I must admit though that I still prefer Tanya's version with her peculiar vocal delivery. I grew up listening to and admiring Tanya and will always have a soft spot in my heart for her. Cheers, Steve PS Do yourself a favor and listen to the original. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I grew up with country music playing in the house my parents loved it. So it was the first music I ever heard. Then we always had to watch the grand Ole opry which started at the ryman auditorium and we watched later hee haw . I also listened 60s and 70s popular music and some rock. So there's a little about my background. Tanya Tucker (country singer) was close in age to me . Yeah she started singing as a kid .she first sang Jamestown Ferry I think I liked her version better .Heres a link to her singing Jamestown ferry at later age . kzbin.info/www/bejne/jme5fYOkfcR9gas

Viewer request Don. My favorite Kenny Rogers song, "SWEET MUSIC MAN". #R.I.P. Kenny. I saw him in concert with Crystal Gayle once and also once with Dottie West. Kenny and Dottie singing "ANYONE WHO ISN'T ME TONIGHT" is review worthy song. Hate waking up to sad news. Have a good weekend on the east coast.
