We Remember, RIP Charley
Interview & Performance, Originally Occured July 2017
Charley Pride, whose rich baritone voice and impeccable song-sense altered American culture, died Saturday, December 12, 2020, in Dallas, Texas of complications from Covid-19 at age 86.
Pride was a gifted athlete who at first thought baseball would be his path from poverty, labor, and strife. But his musical acumen was more impressive than his pitching arm or his hitting skills, and he emerged as one of the most significant artists at RCA Records, with chart-topping hits including “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” and “Mountain of Love.” He won the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award in 1971, its top male vocalist prize in 1971 and 1972, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.
Charley Pride Final DYR Interview 2020 😢
His final performance came on November 11, 2020, when he sang “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’” during the CMA Awards show at Nashville’s Music City Center with Jimmie Allen, a modern-day hitmaker who counts Pride among his heroes.

Charley recorded the first Foster/Rice hit for us..."The Day The World Stood Still" and followed it with our first award winner, "The Easy Part's Over'..we had 19 songs recorded by Charley..But, regardless of the professional relationship, he was a great personal friend..I'm really hurt by this loss...

Some how my mother snuck into his dressing room at one of his concerts and asked him to sign her white purse. He called for security first but he still signed her purse and they had a few laughs. My mom is a white woman and a little bit racist but she always thought Charlie was the most handsome man in the world. I don’t know what happened with the purse,but that’s her story and glory that moment she met Charlie Pride. 🌹

@RubyTuesday I didn't condemn you and me and everyone else born on this planet. "for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We were all condemned by Adam when he sinned and sin entered the world and human race. Why did God send his only Son to die on a Cross to save us from our sins. Was it a joke or a prank he played on his Son to suffer and die the death that we deserve? I think not. Hope you don't celebrate Christ mas or Easter.
@JohnSmith-uy7sv

@RubyTuesday you asked me why I posted the scripture. So I told you... Read all the comments that he is singing with the angels and he is in a heavenly choir. That is a lie. We do not have the authority to say where any of us will be or what we will be doing. It is God's decision where we go. We are just the creation... not the creator.

As a black man who grew up listening to Cal Smith, Dolley Parton and Waylon, Willie and The Boys; I’d never heard or seen a black man sing in this genre. Pleasantly, l was surprised to see that a black man sung a couple of country classics that l truly loved. I was happy that he was accepted by all country music fans. My hometown is only 50 minutes from his (Sledge, MS) in the Mississippi Delta. So l was doubly proud and happy. He’s truly revered at home and l will miss him. Thank you Charley for opening up so many doors for others to follow. You was truly a trailblazer and a LEGEND! You will be missed ..... RIP🕊

I saw one of his last appearances on TV. Blew me away. May God accept this man's soul into his heavenly kingdom without delay. I was very familiar with "God's Coloring Book". Thank you Lord for sharing Charley Pride with the world. In addition to being a world class singer, Charley Pride was such a humble man. He handled the race barriers he endured with grace and class. Charley didn't break baseball records, but he shattered every record in the music industry. Rip Mr. Pride.
