Great reaction. I enjoyed this film when I was a kid as well as the original gene wilder film. This one is practically an adaption of the book itself which is a few tweaks. The songs you heard in this version are actual lyrics from the book. To answer your question Willy Wonka did specifically choose the rooms for each child to test them based on what was their flaw. As it was said even in the older film that he couldn’t trust in adult to run the factory so he decided to look for a kid, but he knew it had to be a kid who shared his passion for candy and had a selfless heart. And I also did like that we got a backstory for Wonka and how he explains his origin in a way. They are making another Wonka movie where they will explain his origin. Also if you loved Willy Wonka, I highly recommend other films like Matilda, BFG, The Witches, etc. 🍫🎩💛💜

Willy Wonka is a little excentric because he's still a little child in his head. Then of course there is Mrs. White, and her phrase "Flames, flames, on the side of my face", which is a flashback moment of her 1st Ex-husband, known as old Zipper-Neck. ;) Maybe I should make a Charlie/Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory video, like I did for "Clue: The Movie" ;)

Which do people prefer....this version or Gene Wilder? I like the Oompa Loompa's and their songs better from the older version. But I do like this version too. Overall though I probably have to go with the older one. Who doesn't love "I've got a golden ticket"
@MuljoStpho2 жыл бұрын
In the older adaptation I like Wilder's performance and songs as Wonka. Plus Grandpa Joe's golden ticket song, sure. But the Oompa Loompa songs just kinda annoy me and I find most of the movie outside of Wilder's performance to be kinda meh. In the newer adaptation I like the Oompa Loompa songs and much of the movie in general. As for Depp's performance as Wonka... Well, it's not "bad" but it is a very different take on the character. Leans a lot more into the fantasy of the character. Wilder's Wonka has touches of whimsy and madness but at the end of the day he's still just a businessman, and him and his world still have a grounding in reality. Depp's Wonka is more isolated in his own little world, and the factory seen by the outside world is more of a facade.
@triple7marc2 жыл бұрын
This version is better by far. The Oompa Loompa songs aren't annoying, repetitive and lazy in this one. The songs in this one are all different styles, and use lyrics inspired by (and from) the book. But to answer your question, "Which do people prefer....this version or Gene Wilder?" People generally like the 1971 movie more either because they have nostalgia for it, or they've been tricked by their parents who have nostalgia for it, that it's the better movie. That was the case with me for awhile. I actually have way more nostalgia for the 1971 movie than this one. But I loved the book as a kid, and I've come to realize that this version is so much better in virtually every way.

@triple7marc2 жыл бұрын
"Tim Burton's directorial influence changed it too much from the original movie" You do realize they're both book adaptations, right? And the 2005 movie is a way better one, at that. In fact, they actively tried to make this movie as different from the 1971 movie as possible. The author of the book hated the 1971 movie. It was a horrible film adaptation. Maybe a decent standalone film (still with some major problems), but a horrible and inaccurate adaptation. And it was a Quaker Oats commercial that flopped at the box office. I'm glad Burton strayed away from the 1971 film. It's way better than it because of that. And in contrast, the author's widow helped make the 2005 movie and had full creative control over it. "But I feel watching an adaptation of a film without any knowledge of what the film is adapting from diminishes both movies." Yeah, proves you didn't know they were both book adaptations. Go read the book and you'll see why the 2005 film is so much better. Depp is a better Wonka, and the 2005 film captures the tone of the book so much more accurately.
