We were mates in the 60's, he used to cut all his friends hair, he had so many nick-names, Charlie Beatle, Charley Stones, Charley Chocolate. I used to bottle for him around the west-end and he taught me my first song on guitar, from the Burt Weedon play in a day book, Careless love. He always wanted to give you a Rod the mod hairstyle and back-comb it for you. A very genuine person, really down to earth as they say. A good friend and a good man.

Brilliant ! Back in 79 I think it was their first U.S. gig. They opened for The Police at the Paladium in NYC. That gig was kick ass, me and my two friends were probably the only three people who knew the band. The girl I was with looked like the girl on the " Tomorrows girls "45 jacket. Everyone came to see The police we were the only ones standing in the 5th row center cheering on the band. When their set was over we left. We did not want to see the police. We went uptown to west 62nd street to a club called Hurrahs.We were standing at the bar when who walks up to the bar but the UK Subs. Got to meet everybody in the original band and buy them all pints and hang out. Great times indeed. Charle is a great guy.

In the State's back then when Endangered Species came out, we got it in the Imports section at Middle Earth Records in Downey, CA. That (and other UK Subs albums) were on heavy rotation. Such a great band - Punk/Power Pop that were ahead of their time.
