Charlie is actually a jazz piano major. he's been studying jazz since he was 10. Also went to Berklee. I'm not into his music but I'm a fan when he jams on the piano and is not doing his particular type of pop. Don't get me wrong, I love pop music, I just find his oversaturated, strictly made for sales. It's my opinion. He can do much better pop music like so many have, specially with his talent.

He comes from money, so I'm sure that helps, but he's a great producer, mix engineer, and player... that's always been the case. Look at who did the work on Attention... it's him. Look at who else does work on their songs... it's a lot of people. He collaborates for sure, but he's always been a more-than-self-sufficient and autonomous enough of a producer/musician/player. "Emily" is an amazing tune from the old film The Americanization of Emily. The movie itself is very dialogue heavy but worth the watch, but the song is beautiful on its own. Id recommend everyone to listen to the film version in 4 part harmony amd the Paul Desmomd version to see how others have ornamented it.

The thing I like about Charlie PUTH is that he's unapologetic about having learnt music academically. Most musicians in the mainstream act as though they were all self-taught and I get that it's a better look, makes you seem like an absolute prodigy but realistically... I mean Jacob COLLIER literally claims to be self-taught... So does Lady GAGA, Bruno MARS, and the list goes on.
@LucielStarz1234 жыл бұрын
Le Rigoureux Jacob Collier grew up with a family that’s heavily in music academically and otherwise, his mother is a music teacher. So he grew up with it “organically”, because he didn’t actively choose to study music, it’s just there. Kinda like how someone might have to Academically learn English vs native speaker.

Most of people who's trying to learn music theory is sick of trying. It makes no sense until all those letters and numbers are translated into music itself. But while watching this dude, learning music theory is alot more interesting. Furthermore, you can find what you missed in music theory and learn it. Even if you're not educated in music theory(which is totally fine) can find this kind of things pretty amusing because music is such a mysterious thing and this guy is explaining it.

That could have been me making that comment. Dont let it slip out of your life. You don't have to miss it. Close your eyes and your there again. A simple exercise in remembering the past can end up being a journey back in time. With enough practice you will find yourself able to do it at will. Music and fragrances trigger my crazy time warps... I feel the bench I'm sitting on. Then I feel the actuation of the keys. I hear the chord progressions, then suddenly I smell the piano and the room around me. It all seems like its real. I swear Its like time jumping. Try it. Don't be scared...happiness and a piano are just a thought away. Sounds crazy but it works for me.

Anyone can make beats since it’s easily accessible and since there’s a lot of tutorials out there nowadays, but it takes serious SKILLS to do what Charlie does, especially his piano playing. Dude is so good at what he does that it becomes second nature to him. He doesn’t even have to think hard about it. That’s the kind of level you want to be at if you want to be good at something. And all it requires is real dedication, patience, and hard/smart work.
