It's somewhat disappointing that people only knows Charlie from Tiktok while I know him since 6 years ago. Not to mention the majority of musicians in mainstream music can't read music so it's not much more impressive than anyone else really. I'm honestly more impressed by the fact that Charlie is in mainstream music and knows how to read music and knows music theory. The majority of the musicians in my local scene, that I interact with almost daily, don't know how to read sheet music either. Being able to read is definitely the more unusual ability.

Having perfect pitch myself, it can also be a curse. You can always tell if someone is singing off key, get bugged when a song is played in the "wrong" key, and common appliances make a cacophony of sounds. I also have to find and identify unknown sounds or I get anxious about them, especially in the car.

I had my doubts about his "perfect pitch." Most people who claim to have perfect pitch really only have a highly developed sense of relative pitch. They've memorized a certain pitch in their head & then can name a random pitch relative to the one in their head. But after this demonstration, I'm convinced this guy really does have perfect pitch. It's a weird, rare skill that not even one in a million musicians have.

I have this, too... and can totally relate. I found out at 8 years old and my sister has it as well. But people think it means that we "think' we are perfect musicians, or that we think we can sing perfectly. Others think if you sing the notes exactly as you hear them you have perfect pitch. But 'perfect pitch' means exactly what Charlie Puth describes.

I followed Charlie long before he become a superstar. This guy is one of very few people who actually deserve to be where he is at due to sheer talent. In this case, it is literally sheer talent. I remember listening to his music way back in the day, he was always been an incredible songwriter and I can still hear pieces of his old songwriting style in the music he produces now. I met a guy in a music shop once who said he had perfect pitch so I played a note on a piano (he couldn't see) and asked him what note it was and he immediately said "Bb" and he was right. Many years in Jr High-College being the “tuning fork” for bands and orchestras (tuba player) embedded the middle A (and the Bb just above it) on the bass clef in my head to the point I can reproduce it with my voice on command. From there I can go up and down the clef by half steps. It’s neat, but nothing like perfect pitch like Charlie can do. If I need to pick out a note I always have to start from the A in my head and work out from there.

I have this same talent. Like Charlie, I realized I had it when I was 12. I had been taking private piano lessons since I was 6. I majored in music and my fellow music students knew I could do this. They loved and hated me at the same time because classes in "Ear Training" and "Sight Seeing" are challenge free for people with perfect pitch. I play keyboards in a band and it's really helpful. You hear music in a way that no one else does. Good for Charlie!

I watched him listen to a solo from BOC Don't Fear... just once playing it not for note or when we was in music class and the teacher would play chords on the piano; & could identify them individually; saying sharp, major; minor etc. Simply mind boggling.. May his Spirit Carry On.... . .

Is so refreshing to see an artists that's so immerse into what he does. Most famous "artists" nowdays are just singers, they're not involve in the making of their songs. I just love and respect him so much
