Chrysler needs another Iacocca again. Cancelling a compact and mid-size sedan (Dart and 200) is nonsense.

I really liked the Dart...the way that car drove and sounded were great.

I agree, Chrysler needs another Iacocca type person. Daimler couldn't do it, Cerberus couldn't do it, Fiat is squeaking by, and now their are talks that a Chinese investment company might by Chrysler. It's horrible.

There was talk that GM would buy out all of FCA. I really wish they would, especially since GM sold Vauxhall and Opel which has put them down in Europe.

People did not buy the 200 and Dart and they also got no better fuel economy than their 4cyl little Jeeps that people actually buy. To get rid of those two and make room to make more Jeeps was a no brainer.

A TRUE American businessman if there ever were one. I am so proud to say that I grew up in the Lee Iacocca Era. Lee truly proved that you could take pride in American products WITHOUT taking a White Nationalistic/xenophobic approach. This was reflected in his "If you can find a better car, buy it." tagline that he always used. Not only did he acknowledge that many people still believed that American vehicles were inferior copies of their European & Japanese counterparts instead of taking a "BUY AMERICAN OR DIE!!!!!!!!" approach, he went to great pains to assure the American buying public that Chrysler REALLY had something to offer over the competition. And he did this by finding product niches that other manufacturers were ignoring & filling them with models that could be designed & built at modest cost.

Chrysler is sadly owned by Fiat. On the bright side the Jeep division is hot and they're building great RAM trucks that consumers seem to love. If they can crack the small SUV market in a meaningful way they should be on solid footing. At least Fiat understands small fuel efficient cars. As for big things Lee was talking about on the bigger front these things are worse. Health care costs have escalated far beyond inflation since the Obama Care Initiative. Wages can't be rising at that rate as one robs from the other. As a country we just print more money going further into debt as if there are few negatives. The one we feel the most is the rising cost of living. A trip to the grocery store quickly confirms this after you've paid you inflated taxes and insurances. The all important middle class is being eliminated day by day. Things such as this are the sole reason Donald Trump, a non-politician and dubious businessman, is our president. That said I gladly voted for him as business as usual in Washington was destroying the very reason America came to be. I root for Chrysler. GM cheated and they don't deserve their success borne on the back of erasing all their debt. Chrysler paid back their debt with interest and Iococca is the reason. Yes he selected the wrong man to succeed him but he is a winner himself.

It is amazing what damage one man can do. I do remember in the mid nineties when Daimler tried to buy everything they could lay a hand on. Bob Eaton gave in, and I remember that he sold Chrysler very quickly. Here it is almost twenty years later, and Chrysler is still stumbling and struggling. I wonder what Bob's doing now.

@MaliciousSRT5 жыл бұрын
Cerberus, at the time, had good intentions but it wasn't enough. They stole away the marketing chief from Lexus and the sales chief from Toyota - however, turns out neither of what they did mattered at Lexus/Toyota - those cars sell themselves. Then the recession hit and car sales dropped from 13 million a year to 10 million - that's when they raised the white flag (and GM). Fiat did a very good turn around with Chrysler but I don't agree with what they are doing now, focusing all efforts on Ram, Jeep and Alfa Romeo and letting the other brands languish. I think the owners of Fiat will be selling FCA very soon and keeping Ferrari.

Isn't this an over-idealized guy? He tried to stop the Japanese advance of well-made cars with constant complaints to the government instead of paying attention to innovation. Was he only the head that saved the company? Isn't he the typical manager idealized and locked in his own image without taking into account the people who speak to him and confront him. Not the typical manager who likes attention? What happened to the company shortly after? Where were the foundations of solid leadership, if there was one? The figure must be analyzed beyond the myth.
