Did you have a favorite version of Charlie's Angels? Was it the original television series, the 2000s movies, or one of the other TV adaptations?

Honestly, I've only been exposed to the new millennium stuff and by far the first Charlie's Angels movie is the best thing. It was campy fun, totally an enjoyable film. Even 2 is okay, it's just more bizarrely structured

I loved the old version as a tiny child, when I have seen it later - it's pretty crap isn't it? Big hair, tiny pants, and they are constantly whining and/or taking orders from The Man. Not really sure why I am watching this... OK I just like listening both these guys. New Charlie's Angels stuff has been godawful, I guess in keeping with the original?

8:09 Fun fact: the angels never used guns in the original movies. Apparently Drew Barrymore thought it would be "innapropriate" but I think it actually made the movies better cause it forced the writers to make creative fight scenes instead of just firing guns.

To be fair, remakes were always prominent, especially in the 2000s, difference is that it was for the most part "horror", e.g. in 2009, we had atleast 4 remakes: My Bloody Valentine 3D, Friday the 13th, The Last House on the Left, Stepfather, in 2010, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Piranha 3D, I Spit on Your Grave, The Crazies...

Yo Brad and Doug! Glad to see you two back at it with a review. Kirsten Stewart was in a movie called "Clouds of Sils Maria". Juliette Binoche is amazing in it and it actually impressed me with K-Stew's acting talent. I highly recommend a look, if you haven't yet. Her roles in the indie circuit really have been interesting choices. I knew Charlie's Angels would be bad when I heard Charlie's Angels. I feel that even though the McG film is a guilty pleasure, it is so dated.

After watching the new Hellboy, I realized that they had filmed some scenes, had an ad made, then had a total re-write of the script removing what they already showed the public, then, just because people expected to see it, and they did go through the trouble and expense to film the scene... and since it no longer fits anywhere in the story, tack it on the end.

What kind of market research went into this? I can't imagine that Hollywood thought any demographic in 2019 would go "They're bringing back Charlie's Angels? I have to see it; please take my $20." I also couldn't tell who the target audience was supposed to be; the sex appeal used in the advertising suggested it was men, but releasing a Miley Cyrus/Ariana Grande music video for it would suggest young women.

The original was essentially a family show with a very broad appeal: fanservice and action for the male audience and mysteries and adventures with strong but feminine female leads for the female audience. So no wonder the makers of this movie ended-up with garbage that appeals to absolutely no one if they made it into a pg-13 action flick: girls don't care about it because it's it's a stupid action movie with women acting like men while shooting guns and punching everyone; boys don't care about it because it's loaded with "grrrl power" bullshit and is too poorly set to be appealing as purely action.

*Spoilers ahead!* Despite not having the number 3 in the title, CHARLIE'S ANGELS 2019 is in fact part of the same continuity. I know this because we see photos of the actresses from the previous movies and the 1976 TV series alongside their Bosley, which is the alias used for people who assist the Angels. That's why they're played by different actors, while the Angels in each incarnation have different names, because they're not supposed to be the same characters. This movie confirms it by calling it a rank. However, Patrick Stewart has been inserted in the aforementioned photos (the effects are embarrassingly bad for a $55 million production) and it's revealed that his name really is Bosley and the rank name was created in his honor. Wait. So when he's revealed to be the villain, we're essentially seeing Bill Murray and David Doyle (these 3 guys look and act nothing alike, by the way) turning to the dark side?! What a slap in the face! One of my first doubts was "Does this also mean that the Bosley that Djimon Hounsou is playing is supposed to be the Bernie Mac one?!", but it was later confirmed that he wasn't. The climax takes place in a room full of men, until a lot of women show up to defeat them. I know that's because the Angels in this organization must be females, but why couldn't the different Bosleys (who are both male and female) join the fight? It actually would've had more meaning, since they must all feel bad due to the OG's betrayal. That could've been an interesting angle to explore (and whether they will look for a different name for the rank). Also, what prevented evil Bosley from hiring henchwomen instead of just henchmen? I think you can see where I'm going with all this. Yes, there's an agenda. Before I forget, if you know about an upcoming event that celebrates women in any way, please let me know. I'd love to go and talk about their rights and the opportunities they should have. I might even bring up this movie as a terrible example on how to make a feminist movie. It's so against the "Show, don't tell" rule that it literally begins with a conversation about what women supposedly can't do. Remember the exciting sequence in the 2000 movie that revealed the title? Here, they use a montage with random girls from around the world instead and it feels like a bland ad. You don't need all these gimmicks to convince us that women kick ass. They already do in real life, and not just in terms of strength. And you don't need to make every man have negative personality traits in order to create a contrast. There's a certain male character who's very heroic, but he dies early on, so it's hard to say that he counts as an exception. Anyway, just give us heroines with abilities and values we can admire. And if you really need to convey a message, be subtle about it. With all that out of the way, how is the movie as a whole? Overlong and predictable, but I appreciate how Elizabeth Banks makes women look good without exaggerating (unlike McG and his male gaze) and how she makes the world more grounded without going full dark and gritty. Kristen Stewart is very funny. She and Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska have some chemistry, but it's nothing compared to their predecessors. How ironic, considering that this installment is about them *forming* a team. Aside from a sequence involving a rock crusher, the action isn't memorable. There's a shot where the 3 protagonists are in a field. Jane Kano is sad and Sabina Wilson tries to make her feel better, while Elena Houghlin is throwing up. They obviously filmed it outdoors, so why does Bill Pope's cinematography look so fake here? There's another scene when they're on a boat. The camera briefly shows the back of a little girl's head and Sabina looking at a distance. Then there's a close-up of Sabina where, out of nowhere, she turns to the camera and makes weird faces. Is she breaking the 4th wall? Did they leave a blooper in the final cut by accident? No, the movie then cuts to the little girl doing the same thing. This wasn't the right way to film and edit the scene. It's too jarring. 4/10

Mayo on fries Brad? For real? They're so goddamn delicious aren't they! I haven't put ketchup on my fries since I was a kid. Too much sugar in that shit. Why does my server got to look at me crazy every time I ask for mayo? Just give me the good stuff and mind your business.

Was anyone expecting a Deadpool or John Wick here? Charlie's Angels was just popcorn fun with some funny writing. It's nothing fantastic. At least to me. Even the trailer didn't look interesting or funny. It just had diet Deadpool jokes and the action and gadgets looked like something out of either one of the Spy Kids movies or a bad 007 rip off

I like films with a message, but I hate message films. This is why Christian-ploitation movies suck. They use threadbare plots, one dimensional characters, and amateurish direction on which to hang heavy handed, uninspired and uninspiring homilies that contain all the depth and strength of day old dishwater. And it gets no better when the sermon beinging shopped to the masses is McFeminism, McAntiracism, or McInsectionality. Sometimes it's even worse. In film, the story is the thing. If you have a message, show me the message AND give me an experience that makes your message mean something to me. Otherwise you're wasting all our time. Look. I can get preached to on Sunday for free, so I don't need to pay $14 for your celluloid sermon on Saturday night!
