There should be a rule, if your comedy is 10 years old or more, you don't get to make a sequel! Anchorman 2, Zoolander 2, Dumb and Dumberer, etc.

Greg OfCanada I would almost extend that to any film. The problem is that sometimes a good reboot/remake does squeeze its way out (e.g. Fury Road)

Daric It's sort of like what happened with , Jingle All the Way 2, Christmas Story 2, Joe Dirt 2, Clerks 2, Son of the mask; and to a lesser extent; Anchorman 2 and Zoolander 2, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Finding Dory (which was actually pretty good), and Monsters University (which was ok).

Parker Stetson Christmas Story 2 was more like MANY decades too late. I never saw the theatrical cut of Anchorman 2, but the unrated cut is honestly pretty good. From what I've seen of the theatrical cut (clips on KZbin), the unrated version is a radically different cut with way better editing (Steve Carell is toned down to more what he was in the first film) and feels much more like a genuine sequel than fan-pandering.

The references to odd or constant swearing make me think of Sausage Party which seemed to swear like a 7th grader at a sleepover--desperately trying to prove how adulty and edgy they are but really just making limited vocabulary white noise.

Saw it last night and completely agree. The original is one of my all time favorite comedies, so I felt compelled to see this one. It wasn't as bad as some sequels (in that I had a few laughs) but I won't be watching this again. If nothing else, the addition of Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks doesn't come close to making up for losing Bernie Mac, John Ritter, Lauren Tom and Lauren Graham

Yeah. Gremlins 2 is probably the only occasion where a comedy sequel came out umpteen years after the original and managed to be equally as good as the original, probably because it's such a clever sendup of how unnecessary it's own existence was.

I first saw the Bye Bye Man trailer before Hardcore Henry. I am convinced that movie is a parody of early 2000s horror movies like Darkness Falls and The Boogeyman. I swear to god it had ALL of the tropes. Hooded figure, rules you're supposed to follow not to get killed by it, the town knowing about this thing but trying to hide it. If it ended up being a movie making fun of all that I think it would be brilliant.

After this review, I expected the worst. Which is why I'm only NOW seeing it. Had to wait for Holiday Season after all. I do love the 1rst movie, though it's not perfect. So I went into Bad Santa 2 expecting it to have no effort at all, and....It's not that bad? It doesn't have as many stand out moments for sure, but I still felt the dialog fit along with the 1rst, and the cinematography was still okay. Kathy Bates as Willy's mom worked for me. Thurmon still had some moments. I thought it was hilarious where he works. The side characters aren't Burnie Mac and John Ritter, but they still tried to give them personality. I thought the scrawny security guard had a unique awkward to him. I said it's not as strong as the 1rst, but it certainly still felt like Bad Santa to me. I can't really complain about it that much more than I could the 1rst.

That would be an interesting idea- have a comedy that goes full tilt on the vulgarity, I mean to an extreme where the f-bomb is dropped in every other sentence as a matter of principle. Think a comedy equivalent to grand guignol, just replace extreme gore with "adult language". (Y)

I went to see this movie today and I walked out within the first thirty minutes. The writing was freaking atrocious. Cursing in every sentence does not make a funny script, people! In something like The Heat it worked because the jokes were good and the plot made sense. Here it was just...just bad.
