Charlie Watts was a JAZZ drummer before he joined the Stones. His first love and skill was jazz. He later performed with the Charlie Watts Quartet. Obviously there isn't much money in jazz. He did that for love, mainly. The Stones was about the folding stuff. But it was jazz that made Charlie such a sophisticated skilful drummer, able to produce such complex rhythms and beats, many of which were "off" the beat, which made it even better. One of the very greatest drummers ever.

Ironically despite their so called 'competitive' nature the two band's drummers Ringo and Charlie had the same approach. Support the song perfectly.

Above all else, Charlie had been the good spirit of the Stones. If it hadn't been for him, the band would have fallen apart long time ago.
