Great clinic as always! Looking forward to 2nd (Haystack) 3rd “Usual” videos to complete the Betters series 😎

The color I remember getting them from Fran Betters shop was the lighter, more tan color. Now, this was almost 30 years ago and I was like 14 so who knows😂He might have done both and my Dad just always bought the tan ones🤷♂I'm going to do some in both colors. Wish I'd have saved some. Ought to talk to my Dad and see if he has any of his old fly boxes around.

I have several of these tied by the man himself. He was an incredible inventor. Not nearly as neat as your. That is a beautiful tye Just semantics but Fran tied these with a groundhog body guard hairs and burnt orange possum. But the first one I ever fished was given to me. Fran dyed his own possum and don’t think the color was that fast. Which is why I keep in a dark place and unfished. As the dubbing faded it became a tan/bleached ginger mix. This slays on mountain Brook Trout streams.

It’s hard to watch other tiers after watching your 4K vids with some of the best tying I have ever seen. I have been tying for 40 years and I have upped my game from watching you. But not to your level. Another tier in our TU club and I talk about your technique. And we should. Thank you.

This is a great fly. I am always having trouble with the amount of wings that I need to use for this fly.

Looks almost like an Adams and a Royal Wulf had a baby. Really cool tie.

I’ve learned so much from these videos since I started tying two years ago. Thanks so much

This fly always reminds me (and my often clumsy fingers) of trying to put 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag. It fishes really well in heavy water and has been a staple in my box for a long time. Might be time to learn some of your smoothness in it's tying at my own bench. Thanks Charlie

Exellent Charlie,great fast water fly. I watched Fran Betters tye these once in n a trip to the fly shop he had in the Adirondacks. He could tye one in about three minutes. Amazing guy. Thanks for sharing.

Same here! Back in the mid 90s. My Dad would take us fishing a few times a summer to the Ausable and we'd always stop in his shop to buy flies. I'll never forget watching him tying while talking to my Dad about fishing reports

Great idea to let gravity wick the head cement into the wraps of the hackle/wings.

Great video Charlie. I'm not too far from the Audable. Its a great fishery.

Nailed it. When using head ciment like that, do you use it as or dilute it to make it more liquid?
@CharliesFlyBox11 ай бұрын
Depends on how thick it is to start. I prefer it fairly thin

Another great looking fly, thanks for sharing. What happened to the sparkle minnow video?
@CharliesFlyBox11 ай бұрын
I’m gonna redo that one. Bad sound, camera too close and the fly didn’t come out all that hot. I was rushing. I’ll do it better.

That’s a beauty Charlie. That said I HATE calf body hair. Pretty sure it’s a me problem, but I just can’t stand the stuff. Thoughts on a synthetic replacement. Super floaty Para post material? EP fibers? Zelon? Thanks a bunch.
