Feed tower arrives it’s HUGE wow I didn’t expect that!!! When it arrived I thought it looked small lac-tec feeder demo and the pros and cons I’ve found by using it this time. Injecting the eyelid of a lamb with unturned lids.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Charlotte, I just spotted your power extension lead to supply electricity to your Las-tec lamb feeder. You might consider unwinding the power lead fully as when it is coiled up it will heat up and is a fire risk. This happens because there is heat produced by electricity when flowing through the cable and it is consented when in a coil. Keep up the good work.

@@jamesgriffiths7579 my grandfather did injections like Charlotte does. In an injury we've had to do injections of various meds in the eye depending on animal. Bison horned? Direct injection in the eye over a course of weeks. Usually steroids and antibiotics. Forgive me, it's been a few decades. He would do every course of treatment first before surgery. We're in the States in the Midwest and its important to try and save the eye for their own safety.

We had 100 triplets one year and got a mikk machine, we screwed bucket lids on pallets and put the teats in the middle of the lid, worked well. We also had trouble with texl lambs eyes.

Hi. Sorry for my delayed reply it’s a bit busy at min and had no time to sit down and catch up. We used to breed and show purebred Lincoln Longwool but we now cross them with whatever tup I can get hold of either Charolais or belted usually. We used to have same problem with eyelids, we generally used to just pull eyelid out and squirt a small amount of pen and strep straight into eyeball from syringe with no needle on. Not quite so gruesome but used to do the trick. That milk machine is awesome I like it a lot!! Least I not the only one with a phone full of sheep scribblings!!!😂😂

Charlotte, the previous comment beat me to it re the extension lead, I have heard of various fires occuring due to the heating up, okay for a short time, but as you have "power" going thru all day!! Get in uncoiled! Having had a house fire two years ago (electrical) we are still fighting the insurance company to pay out!

@@charlotteashleyfarm I live on a narrow boat in England, so I am everywhere. At the moment I am moored near a friends farm and I am currently babysitting her ewes in a field near the canal. Yesterday I alerted her to a in lamb ewe who was in labour. I was able to watch the birth which I always consider a privilege. I am very impressed that shepherds all over the world are so professional.

Sandi Brock (Sheepishly me) uses an automatic pet lamb feeder similar to the one you have, but much bigger - she calls it the Nanny, as she lambs a lot more sheep and has a lot of multiples She says that lambs chew on the teats and pull at them so that the lines come off and she ends up with milk floods. Being in Canada she often comes into the shed to find the lines have frozen overnight and need to sit in hot water for a while to thaw out.

Charlotte watching your latest upload please uncoil the extension cable on the LAC-TEC machine. When it's coiled up it acts like a fuse and can set on fire 🙏
@jamesgriffiths7579
@jamesgriffiths7579 4 ай бұрын
good observation, but it acts more like a coil than a fuse. they are meant to be unrolled all the way or the cord can't dissipate the heat that can build up from the current running through the cord. I would definitely recommend unrolling the cord for the safety of the pets😊

that lamb milk feeder looks a good bit of kit........could you use it for rearing calves .....i don't see why not... do you have to flush it out with water and cleaner the same as you would do with a milking parlour .......surely the milk would go sour and clog up the pipes if it wasn't flushed out regular

Yup I don’t like doing it either but it’s a case of having to, cruel to be kind is my take on it. Some years are worse than others for it. You all set for Kathleen? The wind is blowing bad here already but it’s not raining yet in fact we have had a dry day. We sell our pets in the local livestock market ( we just call it mart or sales depending on where you live but I know that it’s not that in GB) go with a Hank of them most weeks got between €35 and €50 each for 7 of them on Tuesday and by the 1 st of may we will have none ( truthfully we give away a good few as well to friends and neighbours who need a lamb for a ewe, but we get lambs back occasionally too when needed) with the price of powdered milk and lamb creep it’s not exactly a great proposition to rear pets anyway ( very appropriate song). We don’t count lambs till we tail them ! Then we just count the tails basically when they are lambed out far too many especially the singles are untouched by anyone till we get them in for a dose and branding ( or at least that’s how we hope it will be) regards from Ireland, the small very wet island next door!
