Nigerian here, I had my wedding this past January and when I told my people especially my american friends to wear white, they were scared cause I know the rule here is not to wear white to upstate the bride. I told them my culture is that everyone wear white while we the couple wear a different color. I said it's ok, even I didn't wear a white wedding dress. It's the culture, and everyone looked so beautiful 😍. Every where is a different culture, it's just a matter of respecting it.

She enjoyed the benefits of being with her ex but could have wanted other men who may be more "her level" in terms of looks. So for all my family and friends in Brazil it was a destination wedding, and EVERYONE of them treated like a vacation: my brother did a second honey moon, my best friends rentend a car and went from Spain to Portugal exploring all the cities in the way, I had family going to Croacia and renting a boat after... the only thing that I asked from my friends, was for them to be present for my Bacholorette Day and the wedding 2 days after, and thats it. They had the key to our house and could do aaaaall the touristing they would like to. It's just SO SO MUCH selfish of you to not want people to stay over...! It's just crazy to me! There are lots of ways to elope, it does not ave to be at the Justice of the Peace or the Elvis Church in Vegas unless thats what YOU WANT. The most important thing is to marry someone who loves, honors, and respect you. Good luck.

My wedding reception was dry because I knew a handsome 16 year old boy that got wasted at a reception and was not only killed, but mutilated in a horrible crash on the way home. It had a profound effect on me ever since. Most all our invitees came to our wedding and reception where they enjoyed music and plenty of food at a gorgeous venue in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. After the reception was over, parents and siblings gathered at my parents home where we were toasted with 1 glass of fine champagne. It was everything I had dreamed my wedding would be and our guests enjoyed their evening. If someone refuses to come or laughs at you because you won't get them drunk, they're probably not worth keeping as friends.

17:40 This!! I've shared this before but, when I got married, one of my husband's teenage relatives had just got into making her own clothes and she made her own dress. It was **stunning** and I was so proud of her, and also flattered that she felt that our wedding was important enough to make such an effort for (her outfit had taken weeks and weeks of work). Was I worried about being "outshone"? Absolutely not!! People were there to support us, not our clothing. Also, she had been very respectful and asked if it was ok (she didn't need to but I thought it was sweet), & a big part of joining a family is acting like family. This awesome young lady wanted a career in fashion (something she has since achieved and loves) and our wedding was a safe place for her to try wearing one of her completely original pieces to an event for the first time. It was an honour and I thoroughly enjoyed introducing her to people and telling them about her talent. Getting to play a part in her story is the definition of two families coming together in unity, love, and support. That's far more important than photos for Instagram that nobody will look at after 3 months.

Two weeks prior to the wedding she had a double mastectomy but insisted on still singing (I was thrilled) and attended my last fitting to pick up my dress. The store had that sapphire dress on display, and it was her. I convinced her to try it on. it fit like it was custom made with slight padding, and she looked amazing. Sounds like an awesome wedding. I love happy endings. Hugs to all concerned! We're coming up on 33 years as a couple, 32 married. My Lady Wife picked out a tea length not-a-wedding-dress from Sears. I bought a navy blue 3 piece pinstripe suit from Blair. What she spent on our entire wedding and reception is less than most people spend on just flowers. Her MOH wore a dress she had in her closet that just happened to match the silk flowers she made for the tables. My best "man" (a longtime female friend we both love) who I never expected to show up in a skirt wore her "power suit". And a pillow mint war broke out at the reception. We have a picture of me traversing "no man's land" with an umbrella to get some more punch. So that was the vibe. We ended up wearing our wedding outfits (with different accessories) to a 1920s Gangster theme party. She was rocking a feathered headband, a cigarette holder and period jewelry, and I was rocking a fedora and a violin case.

My step-grandma told me she really liked how her hair and makeup were done the first time but she felt like no one else would want her because she was already almost 40 when they met, and he was a few years younger than her. Day one was the prewedding stuff, day 2 was the wedding proper, and the next two days was for all of us to enjoy the spa. Turned out the enjoy the spa days were a gift to those of us in the family/friends who don't really take vacations that aren't 'catch up on sleep/errands' to have a genuine treat yourself and relax time because we deserved it. This exactly! I’m so tired of the “explore before marriage” nonsense when someone is in a closed relationship. You do your exploring before being exclusive with someone, and if being exclusive isn’t for you, then you break up with the person or you both consensually rework the dynamics of the relationship. Marriage is just an extension of an already exclusive relationship dynamic, not a signal to get the exploring out of the way. That checkpoint is long past.

This woman was a coworker who later became a friend. Keep that forefront. If she had ran to the dude and tattled on her and the result was the engagement got called off it could have all dragged all kinda crazy bridezilla drama up into their work environment which could have ended up costing her, her friend or both of them their jobs. However this lady felt about what her buddy was doing to her man, she was older and she was wise enough not to get up in between it. Nonetheless, because she is a decent human being, when the man directly confronted her and asked her point blank, she neither confirmed or denied it but asked him to think about it. He could never truthfully tell her coworker buddy that she was the one who outed her. It is usually not a wise move to get up in between a couple when they are having problems, ESPECIALLY if your job is remotely connected in there some kinda way.. It is always best to try to avoid getting dragged into the middle and refuse to chose sides. Emotions run high sometimes, but if you get dragged in and they make up you will end up losing both or that relationship never being what it was before.

I honestly think in the Anglosphere and Eurosphere there's a bit of a prevailing modesty culture regarding weddings that we do not even think about, it's just so ingrained. So 'dress to impress' tends to mean dress formally and tastefully but somewhat understated. Kind of like dressing to impress for a business meeting or the like. So I think the bride and groom should have self reflected about cultural differences and miscomunications instead of being mad at their guest, but I also think it was the guest committing a completely accidental cultural offense because she just did not know how different the cultural practices are. It's the sort of thing we do without being aware of it enough to elucidate it's significance to outsiders. I feel so bad for the guest, I hope everyone came to understand eachother and the miscomunication that occurred later.

All my bridesmaids were in the same dress, long length but they chose different jewel tone colors. I made white matching shrugs for all of us, using their dress color as a liner. It was so gorgeous. Everywhere I looked I saw movie star friends and family. Faux fur, jewels, and flower hair-clips everywhere that I made. People wanted to try on our shrugs so we let them and took tons of pictures. It was an awesome wedding! 15 years later I still here people say that was the most fun. It rained and we danced in the rain. 100% amazing and I loved every second of it. Our cake was laughable, dj played the cd’s I made for him and gave him the order. Pretty much he pressed play. He brought a girl with him who was wearing a black bra and jeans. So not appropriate. Friends saw this and brought out a fun fur coat for her to wear so her naked body would not be in all the photos.

As for dressing up at weddings, at my wedding I was keen on having everyone look their best, and I had zero qualms with any of the outfits (a middle aged woman even showed up in white, but hey, I was still the shining bride so I didn't really care 😂) Why would you want to be surrounded by frumpy looking attendees? I feel like that would kill the vibe. Have everyone be glamorous! That way, when you look back on pictures, you can marvel at all of your beautiful friends and family members. Jealousy, envy, and insecurity has no place at a wedding. It is a day of celebrating love, not a day of 'I'm the best, most important person'. That's not what weddings should be about.

This is strange, indeed. But maybe the bride did some pre-booking for the guests or smth? I have never been to destination wedding, so I don’t know but maybe there is some pre-booking that we need rooms for 50 people during these dates, and they will book the rooms?

@@Trammiliin_nr2 If new bride and groom were staying on at the resort. It's a destination wedding. They were probably having their honeymoon there. They would not want to have to constantly get drawn into socializing with relatives, no matter how loving the relatives were. That's why the Resort person called her. Relatives wanting to stay on can perhaps book elsewhere, or bride and groom could have thought of this consequence to a "destination wedding" (where folks may have to outlay large sums and want to rest before travelling home), and booked themselves in elsewhere for their honeymoon, far away, so as to not have to socialize. It's an issue with destination weddings, I'd assume, or the Resort person wouldn't have run it by her.

Destination wedding. I went to a wedding a few years ago and it was about an hour away from where most guests lived, so many of us stayed the night. The following morning the bride and grooms parents went around at breakfast and told everyone to leave the newlyweds alone and don’t go to their room. It was really that simple, just respecting the space of the newlyweds and their honeymoon. We didn’t see them till we left and they gave us a friendly nod and wave.
