My favorite wedding is still a friend’s where all their friends and family gifted their talents as wedding gifts. The grooms friends played in a chamber orchestra and played at the event that was in the backyard of the couples new home. The brides parents and sister owned a nursery (plants) and planted beautiful flowers in the flowerbeds, their mutual friend. A judge, performed the ceremony and disposable cameras were set at each table for fun unscripted photos. The bride’s favorite photo, a closeup of a bumble bee taken by her 8 year old niece! That was over 30 years ago and they are still happily married.

One friend was a make up artist and another friend made the cake. You ordered your food if you wanted any downstairs. They wore a dress and a suit and looked beautiful. It was one of the best weddings I have ever and probably will ever go to and suited them as a couple perfectly.

That first story is absolutely bonkers!! When my wife and I got married, all I asked my bridesmaids to do was pick out their own dress (I gave them a color and let them find dresses they could afford! Everyone ended up with different shades of teal and we lined them up in an ombre! I thought it was so gorgeous!) and show up for the rehearsal and wedding! I knew they all had their own lives and that none of them had the money to spare. My matron of honor spent the entire day with me, and helped my mom and grandma set up the venue and take it down once the reception was over. I appreciated that so much because it wasn’t asked of her. We’re still best friends to this day ❤

I've been married as of Dec 29, 2024 17 years. My wedding total spent was 4500. The most expensive purchase was my dress for 1200. We kept it small, my maid of honor and myself made a lot of the gifts and the table decor. Food was prepared by family. Used the Christmas theme etc. I am so happy we chose to stay small and a very manageable budget. We are still happily married.

My favourite thing about weddings that I've read is that the more expensive a wedding is, the less likely it is to last.
@LLandS18Күн бұрын
@@gracehowell.Correlation doesn't equal causation. Also, I suggest you read the bulk of that study. It has nothing to do with the money you spend on the wedding and everything to do with the debt you accrue because of the wedding that will cause an early divorce. So meaning if a couple has the means and will not incur any debt and they spend a million dollars on their wedding they're not any more likely to get divorced than than any other couple. But let's say a couple spends $5,000 on their wedding and they charge it all on credit cards. That couple is more likely to get divorced than the couple who spent a million dollars but took on no debt. So it has nothing to do with how much money you spend and everything to do with how much debt you take on. I mean count me surprise Pikachu face that starting your life out in debt because of a party makes you more likely to get divorced. Why we needed to study on that, why we have to misquote it is beyond me.

What can I say it was the 80s. I wish after all these years that I would of had a huge wedding with all the turmoil & reception insanity. I regret that. So even though it's stressful it will leave you with great memories. Good or bad it's all part of it. Just remember that it's your day. You will be a beautiful bride. BTW? The more I watch Bridezilla videos here (which I thoroughly enjoy), the more I am thankful that we don't have that entitlement culture here in the Philippines. A niece got married a couple of days ago. It's sort of a destination wedding since it's just a couple of hours away from the city. The bride, groom and their families paid for EVERYTHING (except for the Bachelorette that was taken care of by the MsOH and BDs) - outfits for the whole entourage, 2 night overnight stay in the venue for the wedding party and their families, the heavenly food for the cocktail and dinner reception catered by one of the high end fine dining places, the gorgeous fresh flowers everywhere, the most beautiful handwritten invites and all the every little details. The bride didn't even mind that some of the guests didn't follow the color scheme. Nothing and absolutely no one can take the spotlight from the Bride and her Groom. They had a gift registry but any gifts are welcome. We weren't even required to bring a gift! Some didn't RSVP but they set up a couple of extra tables just in case. That was the most romantic, heartwarming and fun wedding ever!

We showed up at the rehearsal the night before (at the church) then had a small rehearsal dinner with just the attendants and immediate families at a local restaurant (I never had to pay for that-the groom’s family usually did back then). The day of I’d drive myself or have someone drop me off at the church. It wasn’t complicated and it wasn’t expensive. And, all the weddings were fun! She is now an amazing and super chill mom of their 2 boys. But to be fair I don’t think my brother would have ever even got engaged or even dated someone seriously to someone that could be a bridezilla of high maintenance like that. This all seems insane. I got married (my second time) to my husband in 1993. We held a 'destination' wedding, 60 miles away from where we lived, and it was in an apple orchard that a friend owned. We turned it into a two-day camping festival for those who wanted to stay the night. Bring your own camping gear if you wanted to camp. We got married on Beltane/Mayday and had two maypoles, drumming circles, and for the dinner, a massive potluck. Everybody brought a dish they liked, so there was a LOT of food with sixty guests. We had three MASSIVE bonfires--our friends who owned the orchard had gathered brush and wood for months for them. I had no bridesmaids, but a matron of honor, and everybody offered to pitch in and decorate the orchard with ribbons, 1000 gold origami cranes we'd made, and flowers we'd gathered. A friend made our wedding cake for a gift, another friend took pictures. We managed the entire wedding on $600. I still have friends who say that's the best wedding they've ever attended.

Love your videos, love your sense of humor, love your snark. And it must be so fun for you, planning your own wedding, to have all these great examples of what NOT to do! :D FWIW: I got married way before Instagram or even Facebook was a thing, so I didn't have a platform to spread any crazy onto. Basically, I just had my childhood bestie as my single attendant, and I told her to buy whatever dress she wanted and said that it should be something she would wear again so it wouldn't be a wasted expense. She chose a gorgeous orangey rusty tea dress and I wore a lilac tea dress of similar length; we did each others' hair and makeup, totally having no idea what we were doing as we're both low-glam women who don't usually do hair or makeup. My bachelorette was just us chatting and laughing in a hot tub in her parents' ski condo (we live in Vermont so that's not the flex it sounds like). A co-worker gifted me our cake, the jazz band I played in gifted us the music, and my parents rented the venue. The one extravagance was a limo that my mom insisted getting ("because it's fun!"). It was all very low-key and not very expensive, just a nice day with family and friends. The party was fun, but ultimately much less important than the journey that followed. Twenty-five years later, my husband is asleep on the couch while I type this. And I wouldn't have it any other way. May you all find your forever person and remember that it's not the wedding, it's the marriage. Parties are nice but life is what counts.

The Me-Me story made my head hurt just imagining it! Good grief! My husband and I had a beautiful wedding outside at a beautiful park and we had our most important family and friends there. I actually thrifted my dress (a designer dress) for about $400 and my mom’s friends who were a florist and a baker (we paid them) made all my flowers and our cake. We made the centerpieces and table arrangements ourselves and we’ve been happily married for 15 years this coming august! (We got married young and we almost eloped) I look back at our pictures and I’m so glad we decided to go simple. Fun fact: we’re from northern Kentucky and our venue was just over the river in Cincinnati, so we actually officially got married in my parents yard at my childhood home and then had our fancy ceremony at the venue. My husband and I had a very basic, traditional wedding. Suit and floofy dress, classy venue, save the date cards followed by really pretty invitations, etc. The single most expensive thing was my $1.2K ring set followed by my $1K dress. I also outright bought two of my bridesmaids their dresses, took them out for a spa day, and bought them matching jewelry sets as a thank you for being in my wedding. Including all that, our wedding only cost us about $10K from ring to honeymoon, which we paid entirely ourselves out of pocket. And it was a TON of fun! Our 12 year anniversary was last week, even though we had a bit of agreed on, tasteful face smearing with cake lol. I always felt that, while your wedding is certainly YOUR special day, what makes it special is the people around you.

So I’m in treatment for my mental health with a wonderful psychiatrist including not yet recognized (but it’s about damn time 🤬) recovering people pleasing 😂 I’ve always qualified my statements by saying “I’m not a doctor and I’m not diagnosing anyone blah blah” until recently when working through an episode involving a borderline abusive Bridezilla. My doctor finally said: “enough! You can call her narcissist, I’ll allow it!” Sometimes they do be THAT unhinged. 1:13

@ I’m a brunette: Brazilian, Portuguese and Romanian with long hair. She chose me as a bridesmaid because one of the groomsmen wife was a stripper and she couldn’t have her walk down the aisle. So I’d walk with him (he was my friend as well) then she started bullying me because of my hair color, my ethnicity and she just wanted me to look “exactly like the stripper except for the stripping part” I swear I’m not making this up. She made comments about my looks saying “I wasn’t American or blonde enough “. Xenophobic b*tch. Because I’m an immigrant some of these comments still hit close to home…. I’m in treatment for PTSD ADHD et al.

I'm 67 and have been a bridesmaid in about 5 different of my good friends weddings over the years. And we wore the cute dresses the bride picked out, we had a casual bridal shower at a fun restaurant and then played miniature golf with the whole wedding party. Stuff like that. And we all had a blast. 🎉🕺💃

The clincher for me is when she orders her bridesmaids to just hand over their credit card information to her brother. Have to question the intelligence/self-respect of someone who would agree to any of these demands, but that one is insanely stupid, as would be anyone who complied.

The saying goes that the bigger and more extravagant a wedding is…the more likely they’ll divorce in a short time. One of the main reasons is that there was more focus on the wedding day versus the marriage. And yes, it’s usually the bride that demands the big wedding and controls the groom. So the next time you are invited to such a wedding, politely tell the bride you don’t want to waste money on a gift unless, there’s a money back guarantee if they divorce. Lol

My wedding was 45 years ago when everything wasn’t so over the top. The 4 women I worked with came over for an impromptu shower one night with gifts and snacks like chips and cheese and crackers. Then my 3 female cousins gave me a surprise shower with their moms and my mom. Small and intimate and a wonderful surprise. My bachelorette party was walking around the corner to a local bar I had never been to. Twenty women walked in and there were only neighborhood guys there. They gave us all the seats at the bar and bought me 2 drinks (I literally fall asleep if I have more than 2 drinks). After that, we walked back to my parents’ house and sat in the courtyard and sat around talking until we went to bed. The morning of my wedding, I went to the hairdressers and picked up the flowers while my fiancé and his groomsmen and friends played golf. My MOH and 2 bridesmaids did their own hair and makeup and my friend did my makeup. We lived in Florida so most of the guests had to fly down, and my 3 attendants paid for their own dresses, but my parents paid for accommodations for everyone and fed everyone the entire time they were there (from between 1-3 weeks). It was so laid back and easy, and I really can’t comprehend all the craziness of the bridezillas of today.

We have a crazy amount of rules no flame,no tape,no ballons, non of those foam glowing sticks, no drinks on the dance floor or and the only barhroom is in the attached building 100ft away. -*edit* the biggest price tag I’ve seen for a wedding here was $280,000 biggest floral bill was $70k

11:11 I work as a part-time teacher, and every 2 weeks, we (teachers of one class) hold a meeting about our students (how they're doing, etc). It's always on my day off at 7.45 a.m. (I get a time compensation, but still, it's a pain...) Two of my coworkers are VERY talkative and talk/gossip about everything but work related stuff. During one of the meetings, one of the two showed her left hand to us smiling and said, "I got engaged this weekend!" Since then, our meetings have changed to a biweekly update meeting of her relationship/wedding plans.... thanks, goodness. I participate via Zoom, so I can do other stuff during that time...
