Actually Vlad Dracul was seen as a hero by his own people, at least that's what I learned from my trips to Romania (I'm from there too, hi 🙋‍♂️). Most of the time he would impale the corrupted nobles who starved the people before he got back, he reduced them (the Boyards) into slavery to build a castle until they would die, as they tried to push him out of the country. He also impaled the Ottomans as he was at war with them most of the time when he reigned over Valachia. The rest of the time he would not impale every single person he condemned to die, otherwise Romania would be left without any tree. It is said that during his time, the level of criminality was at its lowest in the country (no surprise here) and he had a key role to play in establishing Bucharest as the capital city of Romania. In the end he got betrayed by neighboring nobles and royalty. Oh and the Vampire behind his story? That's thanks to Bram Stoker and a mix between Vlad Dracul's life and another Hungarian princess I think (not sure of her origins, nor do I remember her name) who used to take baths in the blood of virgins because she believed it would keep her forever young, pretty and immortal. The actual Romanian version of a vampire doesn't have much to do with what Stoker depicted as such, and is called "strigoi", if I remember well At least that's what I retain from my lectures, I hope to go back soon 🤷‍♂️

That so cool that you're Romanian! Beautiful ppl and culture! You're family is wonderful! My paternal grandparents immigrated from Switzerland to U.S in the late 1920s, early 30s. There was no work over there for my grandpa. He actually came first and met my grandmother through his mom and they corresponded and they married in Switzerland later. Then came over to Wisconsin and started farming. Never forgot that story.

I love this, so I'm Romanian also but when the communist came my grandparents escaped and came to the US (They got jobs there so they came legally with visas) But on a trip last summer I finally went to Romania and saw all of those places. Thank you for the tour ❤️. I was in Romania 3 years ago for the wedding of one of my boys who was my dispatcher. I drove shuttle buses in Melbourne Australia and the call centre was in Romania. Needless to say my dispatchers became family and when one of them was getting married, how could I not go to Romania and physically meet them for the first time and celebrate a fabulous wedding ❤️. I came across you and your site (?) (gimme a break, I'm 54 and kinda new to following people on KZbin so I don't know what to call everything....
