So, an immediate comment I wanna make: Of the packs on the Wheel, the Vaylantz one is not the only post-launch pack you guys haven't chosen. "The Noble Knights of Crimson Flowers" is also a post-launch pack, which contains Noble Knights, but also the post-launch Fleur cards, like Baronne de Fleur and Sauge de Fleur.

I really would like to make charmers, but I can't justify the dust. Konami is cruel in this way regarding a lot of low-power archetypes.

Yeah, the "all cards of a given rarity are of equal value to craft" makes a lot of the high end decks more affordable but the mid to low end feel weirdly expensive due to needing the same amount of SR/ UR cards if not more, and the way cards rarities are partially decided by the secret packs they're put into demands every deck with a pack has URs and SRs. Iirc that's part of why Eldlich was so common back at launch, since they're cheap and concise relative to their power level with just 1-3 copies of a UR (Eldlich) plus a handful of SRs (Eldland, Sanguine, Black Awakening), and the rest are N/R.

Can confirm it actually. Though admitedly the strategy outside of floodgate is usually “go second, steal my opponent’s crap, beat them with it, and pray about seventeen times to Doriadoh that everything goes perfectly to enable such things,” I’ve been running them as a somewhat janky link deck using Selene for extension and skystriker support to get bodies on field, usually the goal is either get to access code, Avramax or otherwise burn enough of my opponent’s resources/ steal enough negates from grave to keep them from recovering. Otherwise? Pray they didn’t draw backrow removal, then let the extremely roided out spell girls sponge some damage and hope I get another turn.

Turn 2 charmers is a thing that can be played due to multiple copies of mind control and change of heart, and it works really well; it destroys kashtira pretty much all the time, and has lots of alternative deckbuilding choices that keeps it relevant against the meta. It's hard to say that it's a tiered deck, but you could easily reach max level in the last DC quite easily

The 1500 unpossessed have different bonus effects: Iniri fire specials itself if destroyed by card effect, Archfiend pops a card if in gy to soecial itsself Gagagio (not sure on spelling) adds a card if destroyed by card effect, Ryuran i cabt remember rn. They also special themselfs from hand if there is a spellcaster on board.

Ranryu is reborn for another familiar when destroyed and Jigabyte summons another familiar from deck when destroyed. Neither are once per turns either so you can loop them

Charmers do deserve better. They're so popular with all these merchandise yet still get treated like dirt for support cards. They already have playmats, sleeves acrylic stands, scale figures and even now plushies and pin sets yet when you wanna give them support they get the generic treatment and not a real archetype deck, the structure deck they got felt like it was incompleted (5 new cards with 2 sets of 4 monsters where the other 2 got made into a different set). They didn't bother retraining the Charmer/Familiar-Possessed cards but they made the Channelers but it didn't seem like a retrain at all to me. I really wanna see a good full set of supports with a focus for their gimmick

As a Charmer player who has advocated that you keep it on the wheel, any charmer focused strategy could be possible with the right elemental matchup. If he was on light or dark you didn't really stand a chance because there's no lyna or dharc support except for the links but yeah fire is definitely its best matchup.

One of the funniest things it can do is how easily it can trigger Wolfrayet with the stupid amount of ATK Awakening can give you. Zoroa plus Aussa or Nefarious into Nefariouser, bring back Zoroa and then synch for Wolfrayet. Nefariouser search Awakening.

​@@ratoh1710Zoroa saved my ass when I went up against a Blue-Eyes and I had a dead hand on turn 1. I find him better to use for normal summon strategy than Fairy Tail Luna because he gives me a starting combo to bring out Nefariouser and then possibly go into a Link or Synchro after. Charmers would be so much better if they could get a Rank 4 Xyz and/or Fusion supports, or have a new continuous spell that let's the Familiar-Possessed monsters gain their piercing effects when summoned from the deck without needing the summon condition

In theory, charmers are a scary bunch: elemental magicians who steal your monsters and sacrifice them to fuel their spells, special summon from the deck, and even steal from GY to do it all over again. But then you get to the setups, and you realize that the archetype hinges on what your opponent even plays, which is never good. It bricks in different ways against different decks, and does so quite often, it loses to basically every staple negate on the planet, and it has no viable boss monster because it's trying to take the opponents' one that it cannot kill or survive. I love charmers, literally my favourite cards in the game. But man, it's one of the most unstable decks I've ever played. When it pops off, it's some of the funniest shit, but more often than not, you draw the wrong color and die a little inside.

The actual issue with charmers is that their "good" cards are slow to generate advantage, and their better cards are straight up out of archetype. If spirit charmers were a "possessed" card, you could actually build some kind of combo control strategy, Ichirin has this issue too, outside of being just a -1 for no reason - the damn card was printed in 2020 and already has a restriction of needing matching attributes remaining in deck and drawing a monster. All that happens in the real world is you activate spirit charmers and they ash it anyway

Ichirin sounds good on paper but it's only the first effect that's good and the second effect is practically useless if you don't use every Familiar. What they could've done with that field spell is give them extra normal summon and a way to summon the Familiar-Possessed monsters faster with their effects included so they don't feel like vanilla beaters

YES FINALLY CHARMERS, Im excited to see this deck played however good or not its best cards are UR... not to confidant about this one. I mean really Konami why is Spirit charmers and Awakening of the possessed so hard to pull... i wasted more gems than id like to admit on this pack... spoilers.... WE FUCKIN WIN!!!!!!! VINDICATION!!!!!!!! CHARMERS ALL THE WAY. I was concerned when Doug didnt pull Awakening but it didnt matter, really good set. I don't like the floodgate focused strategies though , i play a mid-range OTK strategy with the Adventure cards. Resolving Thunder Discharge with a 4k token will never not be funny

It's nice the Charmer Links(and Spiritual Arts) are good attribute specific tools at least. The deck-specific support being kind of UR heavy is pretty annoying for making the full archetype though. Mayakashi also has some good Links to use as various levels of Zombie support, it's mostly the Synchros that keep "pure" Mayakashi from doing much besides Bone Tower Mill, but their ability to do a reverse cascade to float into each other is pretty cool.
