Me too! I wish he could go to the Olympics but dumb rules etc.
@timeli602111 ай бұрын
Those arent olympic rules. They are the rules of the isa. The olympics doesnt care about the isa top 2 on the tour then winners of the world surf games rules. The olympics just tells countries to send us your athletes. Example. The dream team. Michael Jordan and every basketball player in the olympics since never had to "qualify". They were chosen by usa basketball. If usa surfing had balls they would just tell the isa to f off slaters going. Fernando may have gotten surfing into the olympics, but thats as far as it should go. His isa should have no further influence.

Kelly Slater's body has an expiration date attached to it. So does my 75-year-old frame. I still remember when I surfed better than him. After his forth birthday, however, that all changed. Losing to Ethan Ewing at Sunset would be like losing to Lopez at Pipeline.

I mean clearly he’s not going to win on turns etc but put him in a heat at Tahiti and he can still win heats - just as he did in that memorable heat with Nathan hedge and Filipe Toledo - also he won Pipe comp pretty recently!

Say what you want to say but Grandpa Kelly rules and will never be toppled. Todays youth is soft like Jell-O, sweet like twinkies. How can these kids today have that mindset for that long its Jordan like. So kids go Tic Tok your self and wish upon a star and find out who you are..K still #1 you heard.

Yes Chas your earlier prediction on The GOAT KS never winning a heat again is right. BUT remember my friend the conquering Roman Emperor would hold a triumphal parade when he returned to Rome led by the conquered and the captives followed by the trace horses rode by his generals AND then the Triumphal Roman General would follow in a golden chariot with a slave behind him holding a wreath and whispering ALL glory is fleeting. AND we love your super elite health and longevity tips, YOU KNOW 19-year-old Antinous may have done the same for Hadrian though it did not work out so well.

Eh, Kelly will move on and we will all miss him and that's a fact. He is the Goat of all goats in professional sports and that is an absolute FACT. I personally feel that if given the chance he could win the Teahupoo contest this year if the waves were good and maybe even the Olympics at that spot. I would kind of appreciate that exit from competition for him even though I doubt it will happen. Regardless, I am happy and feel privileged to have witnessed his time on the pro tour as well as his free surfing in films like Thicker Than Water. He is a master like we may never see again similar to Ali in the boxing ring. 'Nuff said...

Loved watching Kelly and was a huge fan when I was a kid but it is getting a bit painful to watch these days. Time to be a full time ambassador of the sport but I’m sure the WSL will keep giving him those wildcards 🤪

Nah I back Kelly. It’s fascinating to watch a bloke in his 50’s giving it a crack, it’s more interesting to me than 75% of the cardboard cut out Christian Soccer Mum sons, daughters and them’ers. My main frustration is the weird short rails, strange board designs and frankly bizarre lines and wiggles he does. Just jump on a normal or at least longer board and do some power surfing?
@danumba1son41911 ай бұрын
Oh and watching him in the heavy stuff is still a work of art. While I also hate surfing, I will reluctantly admit I enjoy watching him read Chopes like brail while Fil gets food poisoning on the shoulder

yeah, the boards he rides may feel good to him, but to us observers.... to us it looks like he should hope a matt biolos shape...

Maybe its a generational thing but I just find Kelly Slater so boring, so I'll be fine. I've tried, but I could care less about the guy. As soon as someone starts talking about Kelly Slater (like a Lyft Driver I had one time) my mind starts to drift. I've got about 10 favorite surfers that aren't him. He should finally retire and give someone else a chance he's got all the money in the world and legend status what more is there for him except to just relax and enjoy what he has??! Why not start focusing on helping other surfers instead of constantly retiring and coming back?? Why not start a invitational tour and make up his own rules (in the ocean not that wave pool) Its time for him to slow down and give back something to the communitiy.

The world champ (Toledo) cant even make it out of one heat at pipe or chopes but slater should retire? Just let him have a wild card at pipe, chopes, etc. and watch him get through plenty of heats. Surfing is more than the high flying acrobat act that seems to have the judges so impressed. Style, power and flow plus insane barrel riding is way more impressive to me. I'd rather watch slater, or even an old Tom Curren surf than these wide stance, one turn ass wigglers any day of the week.

Question to me is does the (I HATE the) WSL as seemingly worthless as it is now, even exist without THE GOAT? They lost Steph, Riss, and FT, and probably more to come. I think Kelly can win more heats once his hip is better, Kelly pissed and focused is still top 5 on the tour, especially if there are real waves. Screw it, KELLYx12!! I'd rather double down on Kelly than let go... haha.
