We fail to realize that banks are commercial enterprises that are driven by greed as well. The over-leveraging of assets by banks starting in 2020 was one of the factors that led to SVB's collapse. I have to agree. It's a consumer bank specializing in checking accounts and credit cards for little people. I went there once to cash one of their cashier checks. Chase closed my account without notice. Took my SSI check 6 days later. It took 5 months to get the money and only after I contacted FDIC and they gave me to contact OCC Office of Comptroller of CURRENCY. I got my money by check within 3 days. The bank called and told me they received the complaint and a check would be sent. Now for the Grand FINALE...when I took the CHASE check to a CHASE bank to cash it they put me through the hoops before cashing their own check.

Yes, Chase did a very similar thing to me about 4 years ago. No one at the bank would explain the situation or even return a phone call. Unlike you they closed my credit card account also. The closest thing I could get to an explanation was that the security manager implied that I was a security risk because of high credit card expenses and that I traveled internationally. Most people dont know this, but BBB is a FOR PROFIT company with ABSOLUTELY NO AUTHORITY of any kind. Thank you for posting this. I have been having problems with USBank. My son nor my husband can deposit more $500. And they updated their website and every fricking month they make mistakes with my bill pay. During covid they were refusing to allow people to withdraw their money. I witnessed it with my own eyes when I went in to make a deposit. That was before they closed the lobby of the bank without making an appointment. The lady at the teller next to me was scared as her life savings was with them.And the guy you could hear at the drive-up was really pissed. For months you could only use drive-up or ATM without an appointment so you couldn’t get to your safe deposit either. We all have to realize that just because we make deposits at these institutions, the funds are not really there. They are not at your branch for when you want or need them. The banks use our money to buy stuff, investments and loan out to other people. It’s just getting worse.

Chase received a lot of negative publicity for how they foreclosed on active military that were serving in war zones and got behind on payments. This was early in the war on terror. From my own experiences with them, and I'm non military, I believe they have an internal culture issue that leads to absurd and unprofessional behavior by their employees.

Yes, I have a number friends who (like me) are veterans. Several have had their accounts closed without warning. These people were not political activists or anything out of the ordinary other than they once served in the military. Chase refuses to discuss the reasons for closing their accounts. I had my Chase accounts frozen, and had the hardest time contacting Chase and finding out why. After a day or so, I found out that just online access was frozen, and I could still bank at a branch. The reason probably was that I had used a VPN and logged into my account from an IP address that Chase thought suspicious. The whole experience was stressful and disruptive.

Actually any banque can close your account with them and not tell you why, but they need to give you your money in at least a cashier's cheque within 2 weeks. If the belive there is fraud, they are required to report that to the appropriate agency for investigation. The account would be given over in an "escrow" account - I.e. Removed from the banque altogether. The involved person would be contacted by the investigating agency. Sounds to me as if Chase is just making its own rules!

It's interesting that the bank thinks your deposits are illegal and you don't deserve access to them but they think it's legal for them to confiscate the money in question. My bank calls me or emails me when something doesn't look kosher and asks me to explain or verify or do whatever they need to proceed. Never did they freeze funds and accounts or pull the "Banned For Life" card. This brings up an interesting way to really mess somebody up. Just deposit and large chunk of money into their account from some shady source.

What I find bizarre is that is they were direct deposits for unemployment benefits then Chase has the info right there in their system that it was the state itself transferring the funds into her account. I sometimes wonder if something like this just happens due to a glitch in the sysem but then the representatives are so brain dead that they cannot look at the details and see for themselves that it was a mistake.

@@leslieiris7093 Leslie, first thing you want to do is to go online and check for credit unions in your area. Credit unions are member friendly and you are part of the community of which it serves. As far as i know there is no fee to join. After you choose one go to Chase and close your account. They will give you a check for your money. Its pretty straight foward. Make sure to get a list of their fees as well. You don't want to get a surprise. Hope this helps you out Leslie. Remember big banks are not your friend. Be safe and be alert. I once had a banker stopped my ability to use my account because he felt that I might be doing something illegal. I said how long is this happening and was told I could use my account after 30 days. I waited for 30 days and emptied my account. I then wrote a letter to the CEO. The banker was fired. He saw me on the street and asked why I had him fired. I pointed out that blocking my account for 30 days was not found to be acceptable by your employer. I did not fire him. He took action against me which was not within his power as an employee.

If accounts aren't used for a while, the money in those accounts is turned over to the state treasurer and you have to file an unclaimed property request to get it. In some cases, I've found you have to jump through many hoops to get it. In one instance it took me over 12 months going back and forth to finally get the money.
