Pre - T I had my name changed legally. A few months later I flew from Salt Lake to Detroit (I'm from Ann Arbor) one of my documents said F but my name said "Nicholas". The guy looked at it for a second but then was like "ah, I see" and then he was like "have a safe trip sir!" People in Utah were surprisingly chill about trans issues

When I was 18 and pre-T, I was flying to Indiana for a diversity conference with my high school. I was in the security line, taking off my shoes, putting stuff in bins, etc. Suddenly, a TSA officer says, "excuse me, sir?" and pulls me aside. My immediate thought is, "amazing!! He thinks I'm a dude!!" since I'd never really passed before. Then he says a little quieter, "we're not under 12, are we?" I wanted to die of laughter, omg. I passed, but as a 12 year old boy. I just said that I wasn't, and I went through the body scanner, and he STILL referred to me as male through the whole experience (though he did tell me to "have a good day, sport"). I still laugh about that though. I should've said I was, because then I wouldn't have had to remove my shoes. Then again, lying in airports generally isn't a good idea.

Dollar Store Coffee that happens to me all the time, not that exactly obviously but whenever i do pass it's like "how old are you? 11? 12?" "......no, 15" "OH MY GOD YOU LOOK SO YOOOUUUNNGG"

dollar store coffee once I was in the cinema with my friend and she wanted to watch 'Me Before You' which is like a romantic movie and I didn't really want to watch it but I said ok since she wanted to, so we went to buy our tickets. The movie was released for audiences from the age of 12 and up (I'm 14), and that guy who sold the tickets asked me whether I was already 12. I was so ashamed and my friend laughed so hard at me😂 And the movie wasn't even very good😂

See!!! I'm 12 and don't have to do that stuff and was panicking over it (I have diagnosed anxiety) and all the TSA thought I was 14!!! Until someone made me redo it cuz I went through the wrong machine.

ever since i started packing, my packer has set off the body scan thing. the new ones look for masses on the body rather than just metal, so it shows up every time, and they always get uncomfortable like "uuhhh, its showing up near your crotch so imma pat you down with the backs of my hands" and like it wasn't an awful experience but i just cant get over the fact that my peen always sets off the metal detector - THE IRON DONG!

I tend to pass as a tweeny boy (its kind of funny until a situation where "Yes I am over 18"!!!) so i went to the airport with my dad and it was the middle of winter. The security woman referred to me as "your son" to my dad, he had a perplex look on his face and i was trying not to laugh, and then she looked at my passport and just went "oh". So yeah its not so bad sometime but then people think they made a mistake and i want to go "no you were right the first time!" DX
@Oleeh-oleeh8 жыл бұрын
things2400 This happens to me all the time. Just imagine how awkward it was when I went to work with my mum for 2 days just to see what it's like there and I was introduced to so many people and everyone looked so extremely confused when my mum said: "This is my daughter". Once a colleague came into her room and said: "So this is your son?" I felt so weird😂

My only problem at the airport is bathrooms. Because there are people from all over the world in there who have different ethics, it can be scary. I'm pre everything and I still use the female restrooms, but I dress male.

XXGFX exactly, Iv just started taking T and I’m terrified of the day I will have to transition to the men’s bathroom 🙌🏼

I'm still pre everything as well and completely presenting/dressing male and men's bathrooms are probably the scariest things ever :') I just can't get myself to go to the men's one as I don't think I pass at all but I also feel weird in the women's bathroom...

I'm no were near starting my medical transition but pass really well. I had to fly to and from the US for a competition and had some laughable moments with the people that work there. This was back when I just started presenting as male so it made me all warm and happy inside even though it was super awkward. Every time I had to show my passport, the person would look at it, look at me, become extremely confused before looking at me and it again. My passport has an old photo where I look really girly. Luckily all of the people were nice and we would start laughing and chatting after they asked me if it was actually me. One took my passport and started showing it to the other workers then point at me. All happy to let me through and the attention towards my passing was encouraging. The last person to look at it was at the gate to our plane and called me up before to do standard stuff. When I came to get on the actual plane they remembered me and started to smile and let me straight on. So my experiences have been really good and that was really encouraging to me.

Last year I was travelling to Toronto and stopped off in New York and I had to go in the body scanner and the body scanner beeped and showed something on my chest (which was the hooks of the binder I had on) and so they got a guy to come over and do a pat down then he felt the hooks and started asking what it was and I said a vest and he asked what kinda vest and I said a binder but they didn't understand and I was getting really stressed out and luckily (I guess) my mum showed them my passport which had my birth name and they just kinda went "ahh" and got a woman to do another pat down then sent me on my way. Over all a very stressful experience - don't wear binders with metal bits on them through airport security.

I went through airport security with my packer recently (I didnt see this video but anyway) and it was SO BAD.... long story short I had to take it off, they had to inspect it, and I had to talk to seven different people and I almost missed my flight.... Anyway I always take my packer off because even if they look through your bag its better than body checks.

Everytime I fly and I have my packer on I get patted down. It's funny too me because the TSA always gets a handful.
@kaydencelawler53784 жыл бұрын
Every time I go through airport security I get padded down. Now I don't know if it is because of my binder or the metal rods in my back or both but it always freaks them out because in their mind nobody should have that much metal in or on their body. My dad finds it hilarious though.

I have only ever had one slight problem with security at an airport. It was last year and I was going from London to Spain for a family holiday. I was wearing one of those ones with the metal clasps because that's all I could afford, and when I went through the bleepy scan machine it showed the area where the metal clasps were. They then asked me who I was with (because I was 14 at the time) and I said my mum. The man then asked her if he could "pat down your son just to make sure". That kind of just increased my confidence though because he called me her son. He patted me down quickly and let me go. The only other bad thing is that on my passport the photo is from a few years ago when I had long hair and looked NOTHING like I do now, so they had to look at me and my passport a few times to make sure it was me, then called me by my birth name as I haven't got it legally changed yet which brought my confidence back down a bit.

Every time i went through the security at the airport they have patted down my chest and it is so annoying and the last time i went i also got my hands tested for bomb powder or something but so did my gf on a different airline in the same airport. they have always had a male pat my chest though.. Last time i was also on standby waiting to see if they had room on the plane and i had to explain why i looked nothing like my id and why my name was how it was since i was close to one year on t at that time.

I've been in Russia for the past two months studying the language and every time I had to go through the body scanner my binder showed bright yellow in my chest area. Even when I switched to a binder that's thinner it still glowed like a Halloween pumpkin! Every time I had to say quietly: "I'm trans" and they'd let me go. But each time was scary and uncomfortable!
@vaka45419 жыл бұрын
Knarxus Maybe try finding a binder that actually looks like a tank top or something similar? Could save you from getting nervous.

I get stopped EVERY time. Ive only flown one time in the past three years without getting stopped (and I fly to and from home at least 4 times a year plus a few other trips so I’d say at least 10 airport interactions a year). They have a button to push to set off the “random alert” and they do for anyone who looks different... like for example I’m a mixed-race trans guy, and even when I was presenting as a cishet girl I’d be stopped because I look ambiguously “ethnic.” It’s a real problem and I wasn’t aware that this happens also because you’re trans as it hasn’t increased for me since presenting as trans since it pretty much can’t increase in frequency.

Before I got surgery I went on like seven planes in the year & a half I binded my chest and for me it wasn’t a huge deal even tho I went to India, Dubai, and Nepal. I had to go in girls line a few times though.

I had to fly home for a funeral this past April and it was my first time travelling on a plane since I came out. My license still says F and I haven’t had my name legally changed, so airport staff still called me by my deadname. However, that wasn’t the biggest issue-on my way there and on my way back I had issues with security. On the way there my binder set off the body scan alarm, and my backpack was set off because of my packer being in it. I’m not gonna lie it was quite funny watching the security guy hold my packer (it was in its packing pouch), and eventually realize that he was holding something phallic. On the way back the scanner was set off near my groin area (I wasn’t wearing anything this time!!!) and I had to have a pat down. My backpack also set off the alarm again because of my packer. It was a weird experience.

When you say you don't enjoy your packers that you have, does that mean you dislike the Transthetics STP now that you've used it for awhile? I'm just wondering because I'm saving up for it but it's a lot of money, so I want to be really sure while choosing a new STP.

Asher Ryen Zickert just keep a note from your doctor saying you need the medication in with all your medical stuff. I've been flying with needles for 12 years now (living the #diabeticlife), and it's never been an issue. I always keep a doctor's note with me, but I've never had to use it. I flew from the US to a conservative town in Spain last march with all my diabetic stuff and my T, and nobody batted an eye. They didn't open up my bag or anything (I kept it all in my carry on).

Anyone had experience with flying from Gatwick or Heathrow in England to Minnesota USA (?spelling?) as hope to go there within couple of years. get really bad anxiety and if anyone had any advice for that? also never been on a plane before so there's the anxiety surrounding that and if anyone has first time flyer tips that would be great :)
@Doglover-gh9ut8 жыл бұрын
Brackenburn100 recently I flew from Minneapolis to Heathrow and everything went fine. The security people in Minneapolis were fine and the border police at Heathrow were nice. I fly a lot but it get tons of anxiety about flying and what I do is I constantly remind myself that flying is safer than driving and try and distract myself throughout the flight by watching movies or doing anything to take my mind off of flying. Most of the flight you won't even notice you're flying. I've traveled to the U.S. A lot and the border police there are pretty nice too. Since it's a somewhat long flight to Minnesota from Heathrow 1. You could go straight for it and then after you'll feel better because you did well on a long flight so short flights won't seem as scary or 2. You could go on a shorter flight first just to see how it is and how anxious it makes you feel and sorta ease yourself into flying. I hope everything goes well for you :) (sorry i didn't talk about stuff in terms of being trans I'm not out yet so I haven't had experience with that but I hope I helped a little)

I think sometimes the machines pick up in things on your body and they would like things you shouldn't have, like they usually wouldn't see someone with an object down their pants that's not connected to their body
@griffinvongabriel93699 жыл бұрын
Also you shouldn't wear a binder on a plane cause the air is less thick that high up and it just makes it harder for you to breath.
