Even with that glitchy setting analog can manage to sound warm and pretty... damn you analog! Still marginally prefer the Lossy but mainly that's due to the sheer magnitude of the effect.
@JasonTMays11 ай бұрын
Yea! I just like that both are different enough to warrant them being two separate purchases. Admittedly I love both equally...but for different reasons. If CBA ever released a pedal that combined the best of both! That would sell like hotcakes!
@distor_sean71111 ай бұрын
Dang, super on the fence for which I like better, and which to add to my CB collection. I think the freeze mode has me intrigued on Lossy, but the sounds of Gen Loss are so warm and pleasing.

I don’t think either pedals are guitar pedals. I think they’re signal processing for synth, for drums, for a whole track. But I’ve never heard a guitar not sound listenable through these yet
@mateuszmusia63311 ай бұрын
I checked GenLoss mk2 on guitar as last in chain - you can get very usable sounds and wonderful saturation, you just need to keep the wow and flutter on the safe side and subtlety goes a long way. OFC it's viable in certain contexts and I'm not sure if it's worth it to use Gen Loss purely for saturated vibrato/chorusy sounds, it might be a bit of an overkill using it just for that. On the other hand maybe besides Strymon Deco and Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water there is no other pedal that comes to my mind that would introduce that much saturation and random movement while not being let's say a straight up delay (Demedash comes to mind) or a chorus. TL;DR: they can sound great on guitar while not going super wild, but they are much more than just guitar pedals

I wish the gen loss was more tweak-able in terms of wow and flutter. The taper on the knobs are very strong and drastic imo. The wow and flutter almost become too extreme past 10 o clock. The lossy has more subtle sounds from my experience with it so far, but can definitely get into insane territory.

I honestly cannot wrap my head around why people seem excited about Lossy. Even from the first test, to my ears the difference boils down to "Gen Loss makes things sound good, Lossy makes things sound kind of bad".
@JasonTMays11 ай бұрын
Respectfully that’s the point, Gen loss is going to be more based on analog/tape degradation and LOSSY is just the digital equivalent which is more 56k modem and like low quality zoom cool. But I can see how this is awesome for people who enjoy making lofi music.
@pjforde197811 ай бұрын
@@JasonTMays I know it in my prefrontal, but I'm feeling it in my amygdala. I've just never actively hard passed on a CBA pedal before and it turns out... I wasn't ready.
@Space_pulse11 ай бұрын
I was initially quite turned off, but discovered there are some sweet spots where the artifacts are actually quite pleasing, and the spectral resonator bit is very musical, IMO. I think it’s a lot more usable in the effects loop rather than in front of the amp. I got it mainly for use on drum machines, and it’s amazing for that, but have found a lot of usable tones on guitar, as well. I certainly had some buyer remorse after ordering, but after some time with it, I really enjoy it. It’s especially great at putting some texture back into your guitar signal after all the smooth reverb/delay effects. But it is definitely not for everyone, and can sound quite terrible. But those nasty sounds can be pretty great in a parallel processing situation.

I've gone from hating the Lossy pedal to thinking it's incredible, watching too many vids of it and hating it again. Every time i hear it i feel like i've got weird migraine pressure in my head. Bizzarre. I just ordered it because of an old teacher who said it doesn't matter if art makes people feel good or bad, just that they feel something. The shock of it introduced in a chain of mellower pedals might be great.

It’s pretty funny to call yourself “working class music” when you’ve got several thousand dollars on the board and are standing in front of more than $20,000 worth of amps and cabs. I mean no shade if you got it like that but own it lol don’t cosplay as working class for your musical image or whatever. If you can afford this copious display then you are by definition not working class. 🤡
@JasonTMays11 ай бұрын
Bruh, I work multiple jobs and make less than 40k a year….please stop with the whole classist response of what is and isn’t working class because someone invests any disposable income into the nicer things that brings them joy. God forbid a guy who works at a music store, writes for two music publications, and reviews gear on KZbin actually have nice gear. 🤷🏾♂️

I worked really hard to afford those amps, and you're a clown if you think I paid anything close to current market value for any of them. We've dedicated our lives to making music and we've sacrificed lots of nice things to afford our gear. We just want you to have free healthcare, dude, but keep hating I guess.
@marquishardy234111 ай бұрын
A lot of things musicians own are purchased piece by piece and slowly over time. The gear I own still kind of blows me away when I look at the cost breakdown for my insurance, but I know each sacrifice I made to have them and all the things I don't have. These guys work hard to own the gear they do, and they're doing a fantastic job.

@marquishardy2341 for real. Those amps are the culmination of like 20 years of working overtime, working two jobs, skipping meals, lucky deals, and buying cheap things because they worked that miraculously became trendy and valuable overnight. Assuming I didn't work for them is hilarious.
