I assume the cover couldn’t use the ocean art because it was Ocean’s. Also short of mounting a defence of Borehamwood I now wonder whether I’ve been wrong saying “tie-toe” all these years.

Heh, I could totally be on the wrong side of Tay Toe. As far as the art goes, that makes sense. I wasn't sure if that was Ocean's artwork, or if it came from Taito promo art.

After playing the arcade i wanted this so badly on the sms. Little cheat - hit every box or bin for extra continues!

Huh. I hadn't heard that one!

This is one of those versions with no hills I believe? the tracks end up feeling empty and not memorable, part of the original game was knowing when to use your turbos based on the track layouts, hills included (as they could affect your grip, and obviously visibility) Oddly the FM Towns version suffers in the same way, and doesn't feel like you're really playing Chase HQ as a result. The X68000 version somehow ended up even worse, which is really surprising for an arcade port of a Japanese arcade game to the platform. Weirdly the Spectrum and Amstrad CPC versions of this are probably the best home ports, they feel closest to the arcade even if the framerate took a hit (they're still very playable) But yeah, Chase HQ got an unusual number of bad ports, even the Amiga version is awful, and the less said about the C64 release the better. While this is version nice and smooth, that's about all it has going for it IMHO. Chase HQ versions without the hills and obstacles are like Doom or Duke Nukem 3D ports without the multiple levels of elevation there. They can claim to be ports, but they play like much older games, not really worthy of the name.

I'd agree with that, and you're correct, it does lose something without the undulation.

Okay game. Not too bad, but not a classic for the system.
