the two albums with anette are the best nightwish ones tbh, i wish people would get more into them. yes, it’s mind blowing to see how amazing they are live with floor, but there are details that don’t translate to a live performance, i wish people would start giving studio versions more of a shot.

@@pro-v7500 not necessarily true about live stuff, yes she had bad performances but she generally was great and had great live performances, the reason for her bad performances was that the heavy schedule of tour (specially her last tour with the band ) really had bad effect on her general health and vocal cords, when Annette was healthy she was killer live singer. Edit: some of her reputation of bad live singer come from an unjust accusation of some peoples who were not happy that she did not sang some older operatic stuff live which was by choice and design of the whole band.

I really hate when some nightwish vocalist fans talk more about vocalists than the song itself, there is not a song with Anette that is bad, even when dark passion play wasn't written for her range, the nightwish songs are good because are good compositions. Others bands couldn't survive a change of vocalist because of this little detail.

Imho, she shines on the softer, beautiful but emotionally filled storytelling songs. Meadows of Heaven, Eva, The Crow the Owl and the Dove, Slow Love Slow, Let Loose the Mermaids and The Heart Ask Pleasure First come to mind. Rest Calm is one step harder but very good. And For the Heart I Once Had is a pretty good rockish song. So quite a lot to dive into also with her "originals". Studio versions, of course.

I really like when you're sharing your thoughts of the music in these reaction videos. You obviously know a lot more than some of us who don't work or have any musical education. With that said, I recommend a reaction to Majestica and their music video "Above the sky" or "Ghost of Marley" (from their Christmas album 2020). First thank you Chase for Nightwish Saturday’s. I look forward to it ever week. As a big Nightwish fan I never want to get into Tarja/Anette/Floor debate. Anette is great in the studio and Tarja and Floor are amazing everywhere. I love all Nightwish songs and eras without question. This is one at Anette’s best vocals I feel on an incredible song written by the master. I will say that I love music ( why I love your reactions so much ) and I never like to hear new lead singers doing the original lead sings songs. I don’t mine new songs with a new lead singer but the old ones belong to the original singer. Floor is the only time this has ever changed for me. I love Tarja and will always listen to her singing Nightwish but I also love every time Floor sings a Tarja song live. I have the original versions and the newer live versions with Floor. Floor just blows me away every time she opens her angelic mouth. All that being said I think your idea of listen to all versions of the songs is a great idea. Not to compare ( stay away from that ) but to see the difference and wonder they all bring. Slay The Dreamer and Dead Boy’s Poem are two I think are like completely different songs based on Tarja or Floor singing them. Thank you for your channel and keep up the great word my friend. You are awesome doing reactions and the best on KZbin doing them.

You gotta do “Slow, Love, Slow” live at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The best Annette live performance IMO and it’s a song unlike anything else in Nightwish’s catalogue.

You'll need to do Crewish version of this song. Now that Nightwish can't tour because of Covid their crew made their own project of Nightwish covers.

"Whoever brings the night" was my introduction to Nightwish, fricking love that song so much! The albums Anette worked on are so incredibly good, Imaginaerum being my favorite from Nightwish. Hopefully you check out "The crow, the owl and the dove", "Turn loose the mermaids", "Rest calm" or, again, "Whoever brings the night". edit: OH OH OH. "Slow love slow" is niiiiiice!

You should get Tank to react to this and see if he notices Emmpu is not using his EV-1 in this video (apparently the story goes that they filmed this in California and the EV-1 was held up in transit and Emmpu had to borrow the ESP Eclipse II fir the video). 😃 Probably one of the few videos not to have the EV-1 in it!!!! 😂😂😂😂 Annette was a fantastic studio vocalist and I believe her lack of live experience was what brought her undone as she couldn’t keep up with the gruelling touring schedule vocally. It is no way a reflection in her abilities as a singer because she is a fantastic singer. I love her vocal work on both Dark Passion Play and Imaginaereum. Rest Calm Cadence of her last Breath Meadows of Heaven Slow Love Slow Turn Loose the Mermaids The Crow, The Owl and The Dove Eva Sahara Pretty much everything she sings (even her version of The Poet & The Pendulum) is Awesome!!! It was just unfortunate that at the time she was with the band she struggled to perform the songs live. I think it would be a different story now as she has more live experience under her belt.

This song was the quickest for Tuomas to write (the music before lyrics). In an interview he said it took less than 2,5 hrs to finish it. And about the video: There is a painting from 1903 by a Finnish artist Hugo Simberg which clearly has given the leading idea to the video. The painting is called "The Wounded Angel". Check it up :)

Great reaction, as always. I'm so happy to see someone reacts to an Anette's song. I'm a fan of the band since Tarja's era and already knew and loved Floor before she joined Nightwish, however I'm also a huge huge fan of Anette, and sometimes I see that she do not receive the recognition she deserves to. She's a talent and very capable singer with a beautiful voice. In my opinion, if you're looking for live performances of another Anette's song you should listen to 'Sahara'. People still calling her more a pop kind of singer as if it was a bad thing, but I really think that she rocks and brings some agressive quality to live shows too, that Floor usually brings indeed but w/ too much perfection in her technique, sounding overcontroled for me (not compete with voices too, of course). Anette has a natural angelic tone in her voice, but also belts a lot and brings energy and passion in her live moments.

Chase, Since you are going back and looking at alternate versions of songs, I'd recommend looking at Tarja's version of Ghost Love Score. The arrangement is completely different; so you will really get to see how Tuomas makes changes depending on who he is working with. I'd also recommend the music video for The Islander. It's a fantastic piece of art, and one of the finest music videos I've ever seen. Also you might want to take a look at the acoustic versions of Nemo and Where's the Heart that Floor and Troy did for Planet Rock.

*Where's the different arrangement in "Ghost Love Score" ?? They are using the same backing tracks....the only thing that's different is Floor and her extra vocals at the end [Floorgasm]....and that she's staying on stage.....of course...*

There is a story behind this song. In Scandinavia there exists a painting of two boys carrying a hurt angel. This painting is named "Fallen Angel" and is the background to this composition. Furthermore there are two explanations to what Amaranth is. The one: Amaranth is a cereal. The other: In Greek Mythology it's the name of a beautiful flower that never dies. ;)

Once again, glad to have a perspective talking about more than just what the vocalist is doing. Anette era Nightwish does have a lot of good choices, and yes her voice does have a different quality than Floor and Tarja. My two favorites are Amaranthe which you obviously have seen and "Escapist," but there are many other excellent songs.
