Nice channel Wayne. I used to work in Indonesia and often visited Lombok. If you were there in 2010, you would have remembered the old Lombok airport at Ampenan (Mataram)? I wished they kept the airport there as you could literally walk in to town (Ampenan) after getting off your flight. We probably crossed paths back then too! LOL

Thanks, minga. Yes, the new airport is a bit far now for many Mataram people. In 2010 I was pretty social so we may have indeed bumped into each other. thanks for saying hi. Cheers.

It's a bit messy down one end near the fishing village but the other end is fine and the many beaches very close by are excellent. You can hike up any of the climbs and I'd suggest hiking Gunung Rinjani which is a volcano on Lombok.

@WCMoss it says volumes about the Indonesian people, doesn't it. I wonder sometimes if westerners are as gracious when it comes to foreigners speaking English? I remember being where you are now with your level of Indonesian. It's like hitting a wall. The frustration pushed me to keep learning. You will get there because you have the desire to meet people and communicate. I speak reasonably fluent Indonesian now but even after 35 years I still make mistakes. (Constantly corrected by my three sons) LOL. The more you use it, the better it will become. Keep up the good work.
@WCMoss19 күн бұрын
@@dalecollins-smith3551 Appreciate it, Dale. Yes, it's frustrating at times being a beginner with the language but even when making a complete mess of it the Indonesians I think respect that you're trying. Being completely immersed as you are with a family to keep you on your toes is as thorough a tuition as you could want, I think. Cheers.

I have no idea really and just guessing, but maybe that GP thing (you couldn't understand what ibu said) might have something to do with the Moto GP track that opened there a few years ago. Packs of wild dogs are a problem in quite a few places, became more so after any natural disaster where lots of people died. Lombok hit by big earthquake as well as Covid in the last few years. As far as sense of self goes, I suspect that living in a society where "stuff" is not so important leads to a greater personal investment in that society, and hence self is enhanced by that - sadly largely lost in many western cultures over the last 200 years.

Selemat Sore, Wayne, Biasanya saya bilang:" belum ada prempuan yang cocok" no woman that clicks with me. Indonesia is a group culture & very few are wandering around the world, but maybe more in Australia? I would always tell them, "mungkin besok saya bisa mendapat suarmi". Once had an American friend desperate to get married, who joined me in Indonesia but orang Indonesia told her," sudah tua"/too old. She went to Bangkok & met a European man. All in the eyes of the beholder! Let's hear more about your year-long stay in Lombok. Writing?

Hi Wayne,in Bali you seemed intrigued by the Balinese ladies,however marriage is a massive responsibility taking away freedoms. It is fine to be semi nomadic,however like my ex found out, when moving for a gf,some ppl are similar with partners in very keen at first but then needing a new challenge. It is good to know our traits but personally I would rather have a good travelling friend at times than the complexities of a relationship as been single by choice for far too long. People who find a partner overseas also need to be a provider and more settled so perhaps solo is best option Feral dogs worry me as in Myanmar once a pack of aggressive dogs were a problem&you may need to carry protection.Either way I would prefer to be away than at home at Christmas which is just commercialisation for most Stay safe,single&healthy 😆
@WCMoss19 күн бұрын
It's funny that unless someone else mentions it Christmas is not at all on my radar. i'll try remind myself to wish my family merry Christmas but beyond that i don't really pay it much mind at all. it's a pretty scary experience when a pack of dogs gets you in there sights, isn't it? They can be really intent on getting to you. often just reaching to the ground for stones will dissuade them, but sometimes like yesterday they aren't easily intimidated.
@arkymichael693519 күн бұрын
These raw footage vlogs are fascinating! You certainly don’t hide behind any artifice, Wayne. Bravo! It’s what makes great content!💕 The trash on an otherwise idyllic beach hard to stomach, though. As for similar incidents with dogs in my travels, I always carry walking stick, and bag of stones….
@WCMoss19 күн бұрын
@@arkymichael6935 Thank, arky. Trying to keep it a bit real as I myself find it difficult to watch anything that's too produced or comes with any sort of facade. The rubbish is a bit off-putting I have to agree. A few stones will be the order of the day from now on, I think. Cheers.

You say that a pack of dogs came after you. Of course I love dogs and they are usually fine, but dogs can also be very dangerous and I can't help but worry when you say a pack of dogs was coming after you and that dogs can be a problem in that area that you're staying in right now. Have you ever thought of getting a small knife to carry with you everywhere you go just in case you ever might need it for something? And also, just mentioning that I've heard that if one were to be attacked by a dog supposedly the best target to aim for is a kick right in the nose of the attacking dog. Just mentioning. Please stay safe.
