I would love to attend a class taught by Brian. He does a great job explaining all of the components. It sucks you had to buy a new clutch basket, but it's nice to know what damage to look for. I learned a lot from this video.

I have a 2007 CBR 600RRa REPSOL and replacing the clutch assembly as well. Most of everything is simplistic but also intricate. I bought this bike from a friend and my clutch went out on the freeway. Once I got it apart, it too, looked like the very clutch assembly on this video. It was worn and of course "smoked". Probably from the previous owners and racing. Hopefully I can find a whole kit at a reasonable cost and not out of pocket a lot of money. Funds are tight at the moment. This video is an awesome teaching and will recommend these guys to all our riders. Thank you for all that you guys do!!! Jason Barnes--

OC: I found the same thing when tearing down my 900ss and was a bit surprised. I looked it up on the forums and people mentioned that it was caused by the springs. I'll be honest though; I might have put it back together like that thinking, "Is there that much lateral pressure on that part? I could probably get another clutch worth out of it." I'll be replacing it when I get to that step of my rebuild project now (currently replacing the engine case bearings...weee...). Thanks for looking out for those of us that are still learning!

I remember that happening on my fzr400 😅 but when it comes to engines going bang, worse one was i lost 2nd gear on my fzs600 fazer kept riding it as i couldnt afford to fix it until it went bang. It was and still is stuck in 6th gear. Ended up replacing the engine entirely and stripping the old one for spare parts as its so old the stuff that was good i wouldnt be able to buy anyway
@shanemartinson5006

could have used the old clutch plates to "hold the 2 baskets together" instead of using the I might break the post method to loosen that nut, if you wanted to show how to remove it with out the clutch holding tool.... other than that... really good explaining what you're doing and whats going on. Maybe its the old race mechanic in me but I often watch these and think; i wonder why he likes the small 1/4 ratchet instead of a t-handle wrench

Brian.... Is CBR 600RR clutch a dry fit or do the plates require pre-soak? Most of the clutch jobs I've done are on older British bikes that have a bad habit of stripping the friction plates if installed dry.... Love the vids man keep rocking it guys, much love!

19:50 ah this drama up play lol, whilst it's not good that inner basket its unlikely it will cause issues as long as the clutch pull is smooth, i personally would 100% replace it but not to mention inner baskets are the "most expensive" part of the clutch but are overall super cheap, you can easily find some near brand new under 50 bucks for a cbr600

shame this isnt a slipper clutch so we could all see how those works, still great episode and very informing Theres almost 0 times that you would want to hold a spring in place by the sides like Chase would have thought, it would basically defeat the purpose of the spring completely. Valve springs dont have this, fork and shock springs dont as well. The only case you would (that I can think of, there may be more) is when replacing just the shock part of a McPherson strut and plan on reusing the same spring.

Hi again. I'm rebuilding a 954rr which is the same as your 1000 and a R6. I'm splitting the case on both, total rebuild and on the 954 I just did the clutch. I would like to hear about removing the nut and using an impact. The rapid back and forth hammer action worries me, is this not suggested? Internally, is this too stressful. I agree that using a screwdriver is very bad, buy the specialty tool. I also found that I have blue spots on the steel plates, so a close up of a worn plate would be good to determine what is too much damage and what is acceptable. I had problems unstacking the nut, I tried to clean up the nut to reuse and that's a mistake. Also aligning the basket with the gear was confusing because you cant see if it's mated with the oil pump gear behind it. You should show what is proper alignment/seat. Still want more close up camera action and that next 1000 vid. Look at Brian's steady hands. Theres no "Y" in Brian, just an I.
@cniky
@cniky 3 жыл бұрын
Brain said:"These are already removed, stacked in the right order", how do you know what is the right order? Is it reffered to 3 types or the middle ones have it's unique order on it's own? If you see this Chase, ask Brain that question in next episode. :D Love the effort, say hi to the team :)

Not sure if this going to covered in the reassembly video but shouldn't you soak the friction plates in engine oil prior to installation? I've done a couple of clutch pack replacements on my Kawasaki's and I've always soaked the frictions overnight before installing them. Maybe it's a Honda thing. Love this build series by the way. I really enjoy the in depth breakdown and insights that you and Brian provide.
@angelmichaels2999

Yes.. Most definitely. You should soak the clutch plates in oil for at least 24 hours for the oil to get into all the fibers of the clutch itself.
