Ahahah it's normal that you are confused! Alejandro is a metaphor for Lady Gaga's fear of men! Because she was unexperienced, she had some boyfriends but not real good experiences and didn't know at the time what was normal or not (we learnt later that she unfortunately was sexually assault by one of her former producers... which very sad and caused her PTSD and probably one of the cause of the disease she has: fibromyalgia where she has uncontrolled pains in her muscles and though she really can dance and sing live at the same time). So basically with the latin-names she's repeating she's playing a young girl from another time (here seems like during the occupation by the nazis or dictatorship regime) who pretends she doesn't care of the man she loves who's name is Alejandro. So she calls him different name "Roberto, Fernando" etc. To pretend she has so little care of him that she doesn't even remember his real name. But she's faking and this is shown by the fact she's repeating Alejandro's real name all over the song so she knows it. I hope I've been clear it's not that easy to explain 😂 this music video was very controversial at the time because of the cross she swallows at the end, etc. But of course it was to represent that her faith and her innocence is now gone, that she's not a virgin anymore. She has an even more controversial song and music video that is called Judas. However I think honestly that the message of Judas is clearer than the one of Alejandro. She explicitely sings in Judas that basically she's fool because she fell in love with the wrong guy but she's so attracted to him when she knows he's a demon. Everything is explicit in this song but for the time it was very controversial for Catholics when she was precisely promoting a Catholic value to don't be fooled by men like Judas which was the guy who betrayed Jesus in the Bible.

the song has multiple meanings and is really down to interpretation, but gaga has said each song in this album is a “fear” of a “monster” and that this song was influenced by a fear of men/ sex monster. the video is more representing her love and appreciation for the queer community, and how she has found friendships with gay men that she feels she has failed to find with a straight man as a partner and how shes pining for the love of her gay friends that she cant have.

It’s Steampunk style 😊 they are wearing British Police (AKA: Bobbles) helmets on as compared to názī helmets. Steampunk brings in modern robotic/metal gear and old world style monocles (the eye pieces used traditionally to see opera singers & theatre performers to the rich people in the boxes above the other patrons watching from below). There’s more about melding the new/old world but, hopefully that helps explain their gear a little better. 😊

She is very well known for her music videos, especially on her older albums. She’s very much into European/steampunk/shock style visuals. The names of men are lovers of her character and she’s telling them not to call her babe or say her name. In other words, she doesn’t want relationships and commitments with those men.
