CHASING | A Tour Divide Story (FULL FILM) | The Women's Race of the Tour Divide 2023

"It was just 2 years ago when I first heard of the Tour Divide and the word "bikepacking". As a pro road cyclist, who’s never touched a mountain bike, and never camped before, the idea of doing a time trial in the wild was pretty... wild indeed!
A few years ago, passionate about the power of the mind, I was reading about how what we know as our references create bias to the mind and limiters to the body. Removing references is therefore the only way to achieve our utmost physical potential. Applying this concept, I then went on to become one of the fastest time-trialists in Canada.
While my Olympic dream didn’t materialize, the Tour Divide triggered my curiosity. A 4,300 km time trial! What a ridiculous distance! What if I remove everything I know about what I’m capable of doing, and set my mind to riding as fast as I can, from Banff to the Mexican border. How far would I be able to push my body?
With no ultra-endurance experience, and no mountain bike skills, will determination be enough to compete in the hardest bicycle race in the world?
This story recounts my first time racing the Tour Divide, my first ultra-cycling race, from a neo-bikepacker point of view, a roadie, willing to give everything she has to reach the border first.

I've recently gotten into touring...going from my first RAGBRAI in 2022 (self contained because I am an introvert), to cycling an extra 500 miles after last year's RAGBRAI (to home), to this year planning to cycle to and from RAGBRAI this year (1500 miles). My Trek 3700 is a low end bike, but I'm attached to it too much to upgrade. However, I've been learning about bike maintenance and ergonomics and have poured money into my bike to improve it. My bike mechanic seems to think I am more of capable of doing the Tour Divide and reccomended this video to learn about it. I'm not at all an offroad cyclist, but he said I should put this on my bucket list. 😅

So good!!! I sort of expected a bit of the typical mold of a bikepacking film, and was so pleasantly surprised by this! Hello, It will be a repeating thing, I know! But I loved your way of dealing with all the challenges and setting your boundaries. It is an inspiration for me while I won't race and won't ride into the night. After seeing your achievement I know I can too. I will be (already am) focussed on reaching the Mexican border. What a roller coaster ride of emotions. You had my undivided attention the entire time. especially around 18:00 discussing the choice to punt the road race and stick to your Divide commitment. I've been watching most of the Tour Divide documentaries I can find for past few years and I stumbled across yours just recently even though it has out for a while now. This has to be the most raw one I've seen to date. Everyone has their own style of documentation but I enjoyed yours the most even though you seemed to use a minimal recording equipment. Thank you very much Marie! I am planning for next year,”just” to cycle the GDMBR. I will retire next year and start with this (first!) bikepacking trip! I am exprienced tourcyclist on a recumbent. I did two 6 months trips of 11.000 and 9500 km with a lot of stealth camping. This would probably enough to start this adventure next year. Not on a recumbent, although it might be possible…. Thank you so much for telling your epic race. That headwind from Atlantic City was brutal. As our northbound motorcycle group passed you and the other riders just south of Atlantic City I just was amazed at the racer's grit in grinding out that headwind. You're a superwoman by any definition! s

Hi Maria, great video! we met just before Ute Pass into silverthorne, I'm trail angel water, you took pictures my big Akita wolf at gate. Yep, you had to go catch up other's silverthorne area, offered you place & rest but you went on like most riders. Next summer I'll have my place here warm shower listed for rider's. Absolutely love meeting (hundreds) since 2019, it's just water I put out. Lael i have pictures with here my road on GDMBR, Sacha met also, other lady also number two finish maybe,

I really enjoyed this. I've never done an ultra-endurance race, let alone anything like the Tour Divide, but I have done a lot of bikepacking. You did a great job of capturing all the emotions that I assume go with competing in an event like this.
