The press is a lot different in Britain now with the Royal Family. I believe there were some lawsuits in the early 2000’s. Also, after Princess Diana died things changed.
@RachelGedney8 күн бұрын
For Diana, the culture shock would have been less problematic than the constant hounding of the press and the lack of support from Charles. Diana was aristocracy, but had led a life away from the camera as she was still so young. But she naturally would have fitted in with the RF easier than Sophie or Catherine, who didn't have the aristocratic life prior to RF life. Diana had a distinct advantage in that respect and not much would have changed in her culture, however, we have to remember she was still a teenager! The intrusion in her life would have been massively horrendous, as she wasn't the outwardly extrovert party girl, that side of her would have still been reserved for close family life. She was an introvert predominantly although became more confidently extrovert in her 30s. She had to grow up ridiculously fast with very obvious side effects. Sarah was from the upper class society and very outgoing, the culture shift for her would have also been easier, like Diana's. She fitted in easier in some regards, because of her personality, not as needy as Diana. Hence Diana and Sarah got along well due, in part, to their upper class upbringing. Sophie and Catherine had a lot of change in their lives, but knew it was going to be major changes for them. They accepted all the help and assistance with grace. Meg never intended to change and being the narcissist, wanted complete control of everything, objected to everything and everyone, refused help, advice, assistance, wanting to remain the same trash celebrity she remains to this day. Hopefully in time, we can erase that creature from the history books, being unworthy of a single mention.

@RachelGedney Diana had a traumatic childhood. Her mother left the family when she was small and her mother backed the Earl in a nasty custody battle. Diana said once she stood on the doorstep waiting for her mother to come home. Sophie and Catherine had solid middle class family backgrounds, which I believe stood them n much better stead to cope with the demands of royal life.

She might have turned out to be a real asset. The Swedish crown princess' brother (can't be arsed to google his name) wed a lady of similar profession/reputation as Koo Stark, and after some original snarking and backlash she turned out to be the near perfect second-tier royal. Never put a foot wrong, doing her supporting duties as a royal - with great success, raising 4 children, no scandals by far and wide. Edit typo

@@Jess_Connell Maybe I should add for clarification that the brother, like so many 'spares', badly suffered from the spare syndrome, aggravated by the fact that his father had wanted the *male* offspring to succeed him, and over this matter of (female) primogeniture quarrelled with the Swedish parliament for quite some time. The son, not the most intellectually gifted and not academically interested of the 3 children (his older sister is the family brain, she'll be a great head of state when her time comes), ensuingly turned to a 'bonvivant' lifestyle, meaning: 'playboy', women, booze, and party party party! Many a people speculated it was his kind of escapism since his father seem to be perma-disappointed by him. People feared his girlfriend might worsen the situation, the opposite was the case: they lead a rather private life, he turned to be a family guy and seems to have made peace with his fate. His wife seems to get along with her in-laws *very* well, seems to be content playing second or third fiddle, and no scandals from her family, either. Maybe Andrew wouldn't have messed up as he did had he been permitted to marry Koo? We'll never know.

Right, let’s not go there with Lockdown Gestapo and Let’s See How Far We Can Take Them. All a control practice run. Ideal press set up? A prearranged and specified time slot (just like those elusive good old days), and respect everyone’s privacy and space. I think of Diana trying to spend time with her children amid constant intrusion by the press. Of course, market forces rule the day. Insane financial benefits to the photographer who achieves “that shot”, versus a hundred similar. Remove the financial benefit and people would pay them hardly any heed. Diana doing anything at all became actual currency: big mistake. Being born in UK 1945 I find that dating by adverts hilarious. Computers in 1980 when you were born! I was just above the blackboard and chalk age! Post war paper was scarce; books were scarce, magazines thin, no colour printing. Sweets were on ration until I was about seven, and balancing quality and quantity a learned art for a child. Plastics came onto the market in UK (for household use) when I was still a small child. My father brought home some American Cloth, which was a woven base (cotton?) laminated with the wonder substance, plastic. Table cloth. Spin driers? No, a mangle (and don’t rip the buttons off the shirts). Men, looking like real men, were pictured smoking a pipe, or dining with wife and two cherubic children (build up the numbers after the slaughter). Life was basic, getting by, and although the upper class (the “nobs”) had it easier, everyone had to contend with the English weather: grey, grim, and cold for the greater part of the year, with intermittent sunshine and showers during a brief summer. No wonder I was such an avid reader, up and down to the local library at very least once a week.

In your remarks about Koo Stark, I´m afraid you present as a self-righteous misogynist. This is very much at odds with the values you purport to uphold. No woman who has had to earn her living in the most degrading industry should have to hear your casual contempt for them. Shame on you for your lack of compassion and your arrogance. The weakest members of our societies deserve all the support we can offer. I do hope you take down these disgraceful episodes. Do better. I know you can because I watch your channel. All the best.

I will go back and re-listen to those comments, so I thank you for your input and highlighting of something that I might need to be more careful with. I do want to learn and grow; my desire is to speak with both truth and grace. The manner makes it seem to me like you’re trying to jab me and bully me with your comments - to somehow use “cancel speak” to make me feel shame or delete a video on a whim. This manner makes me less likely to take the comment seriously. No one else gets to tell me when I will and won’t delete a video, for example, example. That’s an absurd and pushy argument. It makes me much less likely to take you in good faith. Additionally, I think the misogynistic position is that a woman ever “has to” take part in an industry you yourself called “the most degrading industry.” I actually would advocate for the honor of that woman and do not believe there’s ever a situation for a woman where she HAS to take part in “the most degrading industry.” Thanks for your comment and input.

@@Jess_Connell Oh dear, you might have done better re-listening to your episodes first and responding to my comment afterwards. As a broadcaster, you should know that your words carry power. There is no need for you to slip into victimhood and cry about cancel culture or bullying. Put your head up and do your due dilligence. And in your own financial interest, you may want to research the court cases that afforded Koo Stark substantial damages and apologies for being disparaged in the media. I certainly wish you all the best and all the level-headedness you can gather.
