When I lived in the Texas Panhandle, in the 70's, my Dad had a dam put in across a canyon to collect water that leaked out of an irrigation water well. They dug out the sides of the canyon too. Once I was riding my horse there and about 4 feet below the original canyon wall surface and maybe 10 to 14 feet below the pasture surface, I found the end of a fossilized bone. I went back as much as possible excavating a little at a time and being careful not to damage it. I had about 4 feet exposed. I went out of state to visit my Mom. When I returned to TX, my Dad was being transferred to OK so I was never able to go back. As I recall, the most narrow part of the bone was about 5-6" across. I often wondered if it's still there and what it was.
