Good video dude. What I will say to people who are going to give this a go, is when you come to drilling into the coving, you are going to pop up underneath the floorboards upstairs, so 100% MAKE SURE you lift those floorboards first to check that your not about to put your drill bit through some water pipes or other cables :) All the best.

Had a 230mm grinder slip out of my hand while doing overhead tracing and it went for my leg. I was lucky because I was wearing a pair of working pants that stopped the blade

Very good. The only thing I would suggest is, if you rig up a little clip on fixing to the guard of the angle grinder to take the nozzle of a hoover you would collect MOST of the dust while you are using it. Saves a lot of time cleaning up afterwards. Kindest Regards Terry O'Connor

Recently got a dust extraction housing for the Bosch grinder - also, it lets you fit 125mm disk instead of 125mm. Not cheap but a game changer regarding dust. I always use conduit. Helps with later modifications and very useful for satellite and ethernet cable - our Zoom always rock solid in lockdown due to not relying on Wifi. 35mm boxes help satellite and ethernet cables bend smoother and gives more wiggle room for mains wires. Jealous of that long drill bit. Might have to get one for a job at home.

I used to instal cable tv , often under floor cables were neater, and most extra sockets I think will run that way too, drilling down rather than up. I used a masonry bit to drill any floorboards, no sharp edges, so if you hit a pipe you weren't aware of or most things under there, you won't damage them because you'll feel them long before doing any damage. Just remember that bit will get hot using it on wood, so be careful where you put it until it cools.

Quick question: plastering... looks like you’re leaving it flush and you mentioned the wall is to be skimmed - will that affect what face plate you can put on? Also, you made the effort to preserve the coving but what happens when you skim? Will you blend into the coving to keep the same profile? Thanks!

Jack D the 2 coats of plaster will be about 4-6mm thick so the backbox can either be flush or stick out 4-6mm but your plasterer will prefer flush so it's easier for him. There is a big step on our coving so the 4-6mm of plaster didn't matter but a plasterer might feather the skim so the coving step isn't lost. Does the battery angle grinder work well for all chasing in a rewire ? Does the battery last and will it cut into the brick as well as the plaster? I use a 850w 230v one but would love to use a cordless if it works

+robert swingler the battery angle grinder works great for me, with a diamond blade it cuts bricks with ease. It does however use a lot of power so having a couple of high ampage batteries spare does help when doing a lot of chases! Thanks for watching 👍🏼

If the standard angle grinder creates too much dust you can hire ones with integrated dust covers - better than spending days cleaning up

Nice work, do you know what the standards are for running data cables like cat5 to an ethernet socket?

Surface mount is fine for data. Keep data and electrics 6" apart if needing to run parallel. Will be less if data and electrical cable are shielded. Most electrical cable is unsheilded but shielded data can be purchased from most hardware stores. If running across (i.e. perpendicular) this is fine.

Julian Hamilton thanks for your kind comment! The cables to your upstairs sockets probably run under your floor so new cables to spurs can run under the floor too! Just make sure the cables are in the centre of the joists and they run straight up to the socket! Also only one spur per socket 👍🏼 let me know how you get on.

Bit tricky to place the box because of the hollows in the bricks so I filled some of that in behind the box, now its solid and wired and working so thanks very, very much and I will pass on your excellent channel 👍

I'm about to chisel out a deeper back box recess in my kitchen as the builder and electrician collectively only put in a 25mm one for the CCU, recessed by 6mm, which is ridiculous for the installed chunky CCU let alone anything else but for a raised power socket it would be ok. They installed the most raised plates I've ever seen lol
