CHASING that SIGNATURE PAUL WALKER RB Sound - HPS Exhaust Manifold

From when I was 6 years old watching 2 Fast 2 Furious, the R34 has been one of my favourite sounding cars of all time.
When a company from Europe reached out to me and offered to send me their HKS style stainless manifold I jumped at the chance!
Very happy with how the R33 is sounding with the new manifold and I cant wait todo some more mods to perfect that note!

Great video! Just a correction, the movie car used an HKS T04Z twin scroll manifold to create the sound. Car was the Topspeed Autosport R34 and was one of the three GTR’s in the country at the time

I subscribe to the same theory.. really good manifold makes the car sound so good. My Cresta has a GREDDY T3 anifold & on my WRX I have SYMS headers. then just run whatever flavour exhust accentuates the sounds you prefer, ie mild steel keeps the rasp but without the tinniness of stainless. I also run a 3" pipe off my turbo for that high pitch dose (though mine is carbon with a 45 bend). Great that you agree that a 6boost really doesnt sound that good. Those things are like a disease.

Honestly? It sounds very good, obviously it's not there yet, but it's close ;) I think that replacing the camshaft and a different exhaust system should contribute to greater depth of the engine's sound. Greetings from Poland!

I thought Artec and 6boost were the best. I believe having a massive intake on the air filter helps too. You ever hear chainsaw aka Clint Brown. Im from WA, so when I was drifting it was Borneo aka Adam Trewhella and Clint Brown etc. Screaming rb's all day long. Im sure the new manifold fold will sound as good if not better 🤘

No bueno man it was a RB you can only get this sound with them ....2j's albeit similar cannot achieve this exact sound due to larger displacement/design. A 1J actually sounds closer to a RB due to similar displacement.

Owww yeah the vid I was waiting for! Sounds amazing bro....there is some bs comments haha. Funny ppl think a 2J was used for the sound especially when its little bro the underrated 1J being the only engine that sounds close to the signature Rb25/26 sound. And to clarify a HKS T04Z manifold compared to a HKS T51R manifold is pretty much identical so either or, they sound the same because the design and piping lengths are the same. There is a trust manifold which sounds super similiar and of course based on the same design again. It is the golden note ;) how much was the HPS mani landed in aus man?

Easy man, alright sweet.....was going to get one but may have found a Trust T88 manifold for 500 which you'll know is a bloody bargain and is the manifold GReddy made that sounds similiar to this aswell. But it's for a rb26 so will have to convert/add a hole to the flange to fit my 25 but might be worth it at that price. I'm in vic and see you aren't too bad with a welder might hit you up to do it haha ;)

Most turbos and manifold are all very different so depends on the style man. I use a variety of different tools from ratchets to spanners man. All depends on what works haha

@@CamMartonDrift i’ve got a hyoergear atr43. first turbo build so still learning shit, i gave up and removed the lines from the block as i couldn’t get my AN wrench in there and didn’t want to round the fittings

The sound clips used for the R34 in the movie are an edited mash up of a gtst with RB25 and something else. But i too also believe the base sound is either a HKS or GReddy manifold, definitely not a T51R turbo though haha. Sounds sweet man, my personal favorite is still the GTSR manifold.

I’ve heard that as well, but it’s not true. The sound came from the Topspeed Autosport R34 with an HKS T04Z twin scroll manifold. A lot of misinformation regarding the sound but if you do the research, that car was one of the three R34’s in the country at the time, and was the only one with the HKS catalog that also sounds exactly like the movie car. The sound files from the movie also have the name of the vehicle as well. Theracingjoker on KZbin covers it in another video if you’re curious, but I know all this because I’ve been chasing the sound. I, too, have a manifold from Samo 😂 I actually helped him source out an HKS T04Z in NY to send over so he can make a jig to make more replicas 😊
