Chasing the Rebelle - 2022 Part 1

After accompanying Avis and Tara to the kickoff of the 2022 Rebelle Rally (‪@RebelleRally‬), Rob set out to make his way down to southern California for the finish and gala staying a day or so behind the event as it marched its way south. In part 1 Rob leaves Lake Tahoe and makes camp in the 2021 RAM 3500 "Overland Explorer" Four Wheel Camper popup build a bit outside of Carson City, NV and runs into trouble with the power system in the camper. He then makes his way up to Reno to meet with KP from Zero Declination to see if they can help sort out the issue. After leaving Reno Rob starts making his way south again towards the rally finish.

I've seen some folks running vans use a dedicated second alternator for charging their batteries. Have seen 200+ amp alternators charge a 600 amp hour battery setup in 2-3 hours out whatever the calculation results in. Bottom line...a dedicated alternator will charge super fast so all your driving in more effective on this issue. Just a thought. Love the fog by the way... Slightly jealous and a version of what I want to do eventually.

That is a great idea. I do actually have the duel alternator set up in this truck, but the redarc that everything is set up through has a max of 30ah so that is the limit and if I have stuff running I'm not even getting that. But thank you for the idea. I will ask some more questions when we tackle trying to sort out the issue for good. And thanks on the truck! I do love it and if we can get this battery issue sorted it will be just about perfect for what we want.

You ever consider a small gas generator? One of those portable ones

yes. I just keep talking myself out of it because I don't want to carry gas (we are a diesel rig) and I don't really want the extra weight. If I did do anything I'd probably get one of those propane generators. If I'm full of propane I have 20lbs which could run one long enough to get the batteries back to full and then some. Plus they are lighter. But currently no plans to do either.

@@overlandv10 you can get a propane conversion kit for most generators. I converted on to a tri-fuel kit, Natural gas, propane and gasoline. Keep it dry and use natural gas and keep it for power outages. Pretty simple conversion.
