Since you mentioned the relevant recall I assume that means you got the standard output Cummins not the High Output? The HO comes with a heavier transmission and also a dedicated transmission radiator. Could look into that?

Yeah, it is the standard not the HO. I think the HO comes with the aisin vs the 68RFE I have. More than likely if the time comes I will just do a rebuilt 68RFE from Randy's or something.

If you are running 40's and have not changed the gearing in your differentials (regardless of a diesel) your tranny will heat up on hills.

Did you have the truck in 4LO when you were climbing?

Good question! Yes I did. However I have talked to a few people since then and it sounds like the torque converter doesn’t lock up in 4L which can cause it to build heat quickly like that. I’m told apart from adding more cooling it is also possible to tune it so the converter will lock up in 4L which should also help. I will probably do some more exploring on that front to see if that will be a decent solution or not.
