I have enjoyed watching your parkrun journey as it has run in parallel to mine. Started 3 years ago with a 29minute effort, got my first sub-20 last summer, then finished close behind you at Bushy1000. Last week I brought my PB down to 19:39. You pipped me by 1 second. Delighted to see it, well done!

Well done Andy, running under twenty mins is a real achievement. Congratulations, and a great video. 👊💥 Nothing was more certain that you would get this though, hills, track and long steady runs is the way to go. So envious of both your local hills and track sessions. I was obsessed for ages until I finally got a 19:59 at Isabell Trail parkrun in 2022 at the age of 56. I still count it a massive achievement (for me) to repeat that, progress is only slow now but keep chipping away and two sub 19’s this year. Which may turn out to be it… 😂😂 Once again, many congratulations… enjoy reliving it and think how good it feels. 😀

Well done Andy 🎉 To be able to pick up THAT much in the final K really does suggest there's even more in the tank 🚀 When it gets REALLY tough with 1-2K to go, just keep telling yourself "stay with it now, flick the switch (from No to Yes), just fight to the next corner, just for this bend" Then repeat until you finish, 200m at a time. 2025 Sub 19 is not in the slightest bit unrealistic, and its not even the arbitrary goal - its the work you're going to put in to achieve it that counts most. Its On Andy!

Congratulations on the huge PB! Given you were able to get within 5 seconds to your target at Bushy parkrun with its grass and gravel surfaces, it was definitely inevitable that you'd achieve this on a paved surface - with the right pacing strategy i.e. negative splitting. I've had very similar experiences to you where I try to even split (or even positive when I'm feeling really good at the start) and crash and burn in KMs 3-4. I needed this video to remind me again that my best race results in all distances have come when I've started slow (usually not intentionally) and sped up towards the end. I'm about 30-40 seconds slower than you and I was also hoping I'd beat 20min this year. Maybe I just need a bit more time as I broke 24, 23, 22, and 21 all this year so I may not have that additional capacity yet. I'm still going to give it one last shot this Saturday at Battersea park - wish me luck!

Massive congratulations! Right in the range of what I commented that I thought you could do on your last video. Small note, it think it would make more sense to say what the pace was for the final km rather than the duration because from a quick check of your Strava your pace was 3:43 because you only got it at 4.97km on your watch. But as you would say, it is the course distance that matters for better or (more often) worse.
