June 2020: The summer of lockdown. With so much change in the world, two friends and I set out to get back to basics and enjoy the simpler things in life, such as food, water, sun, fish, and sleep. We decided to head back to the Knife Lake area to explore some old places and some new ones as well. This trip turned into one of my favorites, and it worked perfectly to ease our minds. Though it was only a short time, the effects have been long-lasting.
In Part 7, we make our second attempt at getting to Eddy Falls for a day trip (successfully!) and do some fishing. We cap the day off with a nice big fish fry and a breathtaking sunset. This was our last day and night in the South Arm and I think we really made the most of it!
Let me know your thoughts, questions, and criticism in the comments! I really do appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks so much for watching!!

Been to that area many times. Truly gods country. Curious to know how that Garmin fishfinder worked out. I have the 43 CV and will be headed up in May just after ice out… (At least that’s the plan).

It really is a great place. The 73cv worked out nicely; the screen is a great size for having mapping+sonar+ClearVu all at the same time. I would prefer my 93sv for that but I think 9" on a canoe is a little more than I want to handle. When fishing near the shore, maps aren't necessary, though neither are sonar or ClearVu either. On a 4" screen I would probably have maps and sonar while fishing offshore, if the 4" let you split... I have a 4" Striker but not a 4" echoMAP.

@@TechnicallyRugged I just opted for a small and as “portable“ as possible. I’m an old timer and I’ve been going there since the early 70s. I’ve caught more fish than I can count over the years on instinct and a little common sense. I have never caught a lake trout. I have jigged around Using topo maps and some not so educated guesses based on shore characteristics for ridiculous amounts of time and never had any luck. I feel like I’m going against my own creed even thinking about bringing a fishfinder up there but ... It will be interesting to see how it works out. I was intrigued when you said you saw two Lakers at approximately 40 feet. Surprised you didn’t drop some thing down there for them to look at

@@TechnicallyRugged By the way, I have really enjoyed your videos. It is a lot of work to film them and a lot of work to edit them. Thank you for uploading. Keep them coming.

@@JohnShepherdMusic Lakers can be tough but when it's cold you will find them shallow. I've caught them while jigging near steep dropoffs right to shore, I've caught them casting a lipless crank near camp with a steep dropoff (Kekekabic). The others I caught on Oyster were while dragging a white twister tail on the bottom in this trench bordered by shallow flats. We saw a huge baitball on sonar so I decided to try and pick that area apart, and on our second or third drift through, I felt something pick up my jig with just slight bumps and hops on the bottom. I set the hook and had an incredible fight with a 28 incher. We repeated the drift a few more times and my friend got a smaller one, and I picked up a 25 as well doing the exact same thing. Jigging is the most fun way to catch them but hard in a canoe when you can't anchor in deep water. Trolling is probably your best bet... I've caught one doing that so far but most times I troll for lakers I come up empty handed (probably not going deep enough).

It's on the southeast end of the South Arm of Knife, between SAK and Eddy Lake.
