With Chee Cheong Fun and Yong Tow Foo I like the sauce being served separately on the side then I dip everything before eating.. so I can control the sweet/ sugar with every mouthful...

It is very seldom that I comment on a video but I do for chasing a plate and chop stick traveler reason Is that when you try food you also give explanation about ingredients of dish and flavours and this thing shows that you have good knowledge about food which is missing in other so called street food video vlogs like mark wein and food rangers. Secondly you guys really explore street food or at least try to be in budget and show what masses eat and a traveller can afford. While other food review shows are doing high end touristy things with whole bunch of guides..i have visited some of the countries and I know how genuine food review you guys do

Oh putumayam! I love it! Haven't had it in ages! My mom used to buy them for us kids to breakfast on. In those days, some Indian Malaysians would peddle the putumayam on motorbikes or even bicycles, passing through our kampong pretty early in the morning hollering "Putu mayong! Putu mayong!" (Putu mayong is Kedah term for this Indian delicacy)..

The chee cheong fun that you ate at the yum cha place was made Hong Kong style. The type that you ate in this video is actually prepared Penang style with a sweet prawn paste sauce. The version which you will usually find in KL uses a sweet soybean sauce together with the chili sauce.

Good thing that Sheena had the chance to have a go at making Putu Mayam. By the way, after all those pulut cakes, did you guys ever felt sleepy afterwards? It's a popular belief in Malaysia that if you eat too much of pulut, you'll end up being sleepy. Interestingly, pulut is a traditional breakfast staple for rice farmers in the northern peninsular states of Malaysia!
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
I loved having a go at using the mould Chad Chasing Nora- it was so cool! I don't recall feeling sleepy after eating a lot of pulut but I get why that would be a belief seeing as it's quite heavy. Sooooo tasty though- especially the kaya sandwich pulut! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena 😄

I prefer to eat putu mayam with curry especially chicken curry. There are many varieties of chee cheong fun. KL chee cheong fun uses sweet & savoury sauce. You can also have it with curry sauce. Penang stye chee cheong fun uses sweet sauce & prawn paste aka otak udang aka head butter (otak udang literally translates as prawn brain). There are 2 types of sweet sauce. One is brownish in colour and the other is red. Teluk Intan in Perak state has another style which is has fillings and is eaten usually with pickled green chillies. And last but not least is the Hong Kong chee cheong fun (you find these in dim sum shops). The banana leaf kueh you had is made with glutinous rice and the filling is grated coconut with dried shrimp.
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all that info fujigoh! We tend to eat the HK chee cheong fun or the curry sauce one. We loved sampling this Penang one. We are totally going to hunt down the Teluk Intan one! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena 😄

Chasing a Plate - Food and Travel Channel Hi Sheena, no, I live in the USA now. I adapted to my new environment but learn to make food I like w/ingredients found locally or substitute whatever ingredients that are close or similar. I also enjoy the American cuisine & from other ethnic groups. The duriansl I found here r in the frozen sections of Asian markets & lately they r too expensive at US $70 a piece. I like Nyonya Cooking by GraceTeo on YT. She is a young Malaysia Chinese woman who went to school in Germany and had to cook w/what she can find there. Your videos sure opened up a wide variety of other Malaysian dishes. Thanks.
