I set up a rope scrape near an active scrape line 3 days ago and took a 145” 11 point off of it this morning. I used the code blue rope a dope but I used some of my own camo rope instead of the blue rope. I put some active scrape scent below it and within a couple days it was completely torn up. I knew I had the attention of a good buck and he showed up 20 minutes into shooting light this morning. I’ve been able to trick a lot of big buck into range in my life but this was my first time using the rope trick. I’ll be using it every year from now on.

I hung a length of old manila hay rope from our barn on a tree branch probably ten years ago and applied Smokey’s pre-orbital and interdigital gland lure several times the first summer, since then I’ve had many deer and other animals visit the rope including bears, several years ago a bear hauled off my manila rope so I replaced it with a smaller diameter nylon rope and the show continues. Deer visit the rope year around and I haven’t applied any lure for years, every fall bucks put a scrape beneath the rope. Location definitely makes a difference because I tried other locations that weren’t as successful. I keep a camera on the rope year around.

Hello I had this information years ago from Whitetail habitat it’s called I forgot his name but boy it was called the licking branch and boy I got all kinds of pictures of bucks. I hung on the outside of the woods along my field and there was a nice trail that came out. There bucks were just go to hell with them and one time they must’ve got their antlers, caught in a broke the next day. I had to put it back up now everything wasn’t natural I made my own little Shelf bracket so I can hang it out I didn’t have a tree that had a lot of branches that were strong enough and that didn’t bother them one bit. I also have a trail. I call the tractor trail. It’s maybe about 30 yards long. It goes to the neighbors field. I put one in there and boy that’s a nonstop user that sucker gets used all the time even today even do and fun stop and sniff at it all the time. So now I’m gonna take everything down. I’m gonna try the rope. See what happens. I hope everything goes well.

As a total novice at this stuff it is weird when one "specialist' says ropes don't work then the next "specialist" says they do. Seems to me that anything you hang in that location might become something they use if it can hold scent.
@chasinggiantswithhigginsou6147 Жыл бұрын
to differentiate one "specialist" from another, look at their results. The internet is full of talkers repeating things they heard or promoting unproven theories so you have to look at what they have actually accomplished. I am not sure how anyone could watch this video and see all the photos of bucks working the ropes and question if they work???

@zzz7zzz93 жыл бұрын
where i live, our heat and UV is so extreme, that zipties are toast fairly quickly when left out in the elements. i thought of that right away, using zipties instead, but then thought of what i've experienced with them here. although, now that i think of it, i actually used zipties a few years ago. one of my favourite cam spots, on a natural scrape/licking branch. the one season, i came in, and there was the licking branch, broken off and laying on the ground. i had some small twine with me, so i overlapped it back to where it was and tied it back in place. on my next trip there, i brought two zipties to add to the repair, to further strengthen it. last i checked, it was still holding up. i guess being sheltered in the woods makes a big difference. my tcam revealed a big cow had broke it off. all our ranches are allowed to release their cattle up into the public lands to free-range all summer. they get them back on the ranches when the snow gets too deep. this cow also reacted to the licking branch and roughed it up, breaking it off.
