I really like this podcast-style series. Good topic to discuss in the first episode b/c it's an important reminder that what people say online has a real impact. Some ideas for future eps: navigating the music industry as a young band, fav things that restore your energy, interviewing other Erie musicians.

I can't even imagine the absolute horror of growing up as a young woman on the internet nowadays. I don't even like it when people look at me in the grocery store. It's like, c'mon people I'm just buying 14 jars of spanish olives I'm not an alien.

If you want to be famous, you're gonna be under that microscope with everyone watching your every move. Especially nowadays with Social Media. Are there creeps out there sending Audra messages they probably shouldn't be sending? Absolutely, they are. I've read some of them, but she acknowledges that's the life that she chose. It seems like she's much more prepared than she was at 18 years old.

@@PaulJackson729 That's kind of the point though, people shouldn't have to choose between doing what they love and being harassed by creeps.

@geraldbelman759 I'm not disagreeing with that. The fact is that 25-30 years ago, this would not be a problem because there was no Social Media.

@geraldbelman759 People were staring at you in a store? Why do some people like to make others feel uncomfortable? I honestly would hate it if people stared at me in public. And with Audra's time on the Internet, you just have to be careful when being a child online, which thankfully it seems like Audra caught a few weirdos instead of even worse Internet behaviour. Hopefully people will stop staring at you going to a Shop in the future.

Great idea for a monthly feature, Audra! I'd like to see you do an episode elaborating on songs you wouldn't feel comfortable covering as well as the ones that you didn't feel you could properly sing once your voice matured.

Wise words & very well spoken. Thank you for sharing these challenges you've had to overcome through the years. It's a real shame the nerve some people have when hidden behind a screen...I don't understand why a person would take time out of their day to send an inappropriate comment to someone & make them feel sad/uncomfortable. I know it's tough sometimes, but you just have to disregard the bad quality people & focus on the good ones who add positive healthy energy to your life. Karma's real bro, the bad people will get what they deserve💅 -Skylar

Really enjoyed your "Chat with Audra". I am sure you have had to deal with a lot of weirdos on the internet in all platforms. I think some people feel they can say things they would never say to your face when they are on social media. You have to have thick skin to survive in this on-line world we live in. Don't let it get you down, there are way more of us out here who just love you for your singing ability. Doing covers is not being a fake, let them try to do as good of a job as you and the guys. You have tackeled some really hard songs and made them your own. Not to mention the outstanding original material you are producing under Concrete Castles!

Ryan George just released a new "the first guy to..." video called "the first focus group of the internet". It's a more comedic, but very on point and honest take on some of the stuff she's talking about. That isn't meant to belittle her message. It is always important and necessary to have strong female leaders speak up about this as a way to reassure other girls out there that their experiences are real and they are not alone. As a guy who still sees comments online trying to minimize what women go through by saying stuff like "men have it rough to", I always think "okay, that's good and all, but maybe try actually listening to what a young female goes through before saying 'it's not that bad'". And yes, A man could have it harder than A woman. But that is because individual experiences are different, and that is how life works. But as a group, generally speaking, I don't think they compare. So too anyone that actually made it till the end of this comment, much love and blessings 💖💖

I claim that you are absolutely an adult. You have been worried about your inner child for a long time. As a result, you have become very strong and began to find and love such a child in other people, where it is in short supply. I am against someone using your living part in business, manipulating you with feelings of guilt. I really like you the way you are. Bad assessments are given by people who are experiencing their own inferiority. This is their business, not yours. The last video I watched 50 times. However, I understand how social networks exhaust you and it’s enough for me: “every Friday at 2 PM". Thank you for the video, hugs 😘 and ❤ Audra.

Thanks for the vid Audra, it's very interesting listening to your experiences. It's actually unique on how your experience as you are kind of the first to go through the music process via KZbin and modern day social media. The good and the bad. I like this platform cause it's topics and information that you usually don't get from an artist, and it's genuine and makes an audience appreciate it. The bands music is great (including CC) but also the experience. Thanks again. Look forward to listening to future episodes.

Thats one thing ive never liked about being online in general. you can post something your proud of, something that you worked really hard on and wanna show everyone what you can do, and theres always someone who has to rain on your parade in one way or another. Granted, im not THEE Audra Miller, so the issues i've always had will never complair to your struggle, but being a guitar tech/builder, i love posting my work for fellow guitar nuts to see, and i love seeing their work as well. But no matter how hard i worked on a project, theres always people who are like "Why didn't you do it this way..." or "I woulda never did that" or "That color choice is ugly, why would you do that?". Like you said, that one single comment will have an impact over the 100's of positive comments. Freedom of speach and internet is a great thing, but just being negative is another. But again, having that core group of fans, friends and family who always support you is what keeps me going. Means more to me when a friend or a follower tells me "That looks great!" over someone whose just being a butt head lol!

I will forever and always support you and your work, Audra, I'm glad you have found ways that work around it so you can keep thriving! A follow-up question I had in regards to this video is: how do you bring up the topic to new friends or even Zak, with your presence on social media? Do you let them know that having them feature on your social media will possibly effect them? As always, love you and the work you do, it's fantastic! 🤍

I love this idea, just a casual chat type of series. Feel like you learn more about the artists you're a fan this way than many other types of videos. I'd be curious what you've learned & picked up from other musician peers throughout all your collabs/tours (Halocene, Kurt, Goot, ATC, etc.). Whether it be a better way to do covers (music side or videos), behind the scenes business/label tips, how to make touring/traveling easier. ☺️

First of all great work. You were very well prepared, you knew what you want to say, I really like this type of format. The sad thing is that we all judge. We all judge just by what we see despite we don't know the person and this does not include just musicians but people generally. I understand that it is much worse when you are singer and well known person, but I would say this goes through the whole society judging people and making comments about them based on how they look. Unfortunately I think this got only worse due to social media. I think there is healthy approach to that though. In my opinion there is nothing wrong if you are over 18 and somebody says "yeah she is beautiful" but it should stop there. Because first and to all the fans most importantly you are amazing singer, have great voice and giving us a lot of joy through the music. So in my opinion this is more whole society thing that I doubt will change but it is great that you have the platform to raise your voice and talk about it and try to spread the message. It is shame that it gets you discourage from reading through comments and DMs but I totally understand it.

Cool format, one idea of topic could be about the new ways / options to do new types of content for F211, CC , AM.. Why CHAT tho ? Sounds + like a monologue, maybe make it more like a chat by having a few fans questions answered ? Also, about being judged: before internet, the artists nightmares where press critics, they could do/undo a career. But if you put yourself on internet, you will always be exposed a very significant amount of free speech : and IMHO it is good to be judged, if it is constructive critic. Surf on the positive vibes and ignore the bad / weird ones. Another thing is emotional/instinctive public reaction: will happen on stage too, that is pure subjectivity -> distancing Just like a doctor : you have to have the right balance between empathy and distancing Fans will be fans, most fans like to be a little crazy and emotional with instinctive not very bright reactions from time to time, as long as it does not cross the limits of reasonableness - and yes, family and friends should be off-limits ( Unavoidable grey zones if some become popular by put themselves freewillingly on the internet too.. )

Hi Audra, just finished listening to the episode, I'll say from my experience in my career (which is in a totally different industry but shares common characteristics). 1. It's going to extremely hard, if it wasn't everyone would do it. 2. People say things on the internet that they would never say in real life. 3. If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger. Really like the episode. I guess for future topics, how do you balance your life ? In terms of work, the multiple bands, how did you balance school and music previously. ? Also what would you consider success in your career in the future ? Thanks again ! Have an amazing month !

So you're probably not going to see this. I didn't comment earlier because I wanted to wait to watch it until I could really concentrate on what you were saying. First of all, thank you for calling out humanity in general on their BS. People can be such jerks. It's so easy for commenters to forget that there are real people behind the pictures and videos we see, and I genuinely appreciate your willingness to be real and vulnerable about this. That's what I enjoy about your channel so much, getting to hear about all these things going on in your actual life behind the scenes. It's unfortunate how people can be so judgmental, and I'm glad you're not letting it get to you. Keep making music, keep being you, and keep ignoring the inappropriate comments. And I apologize if I have ever said or commented anything to make you uncomfortable. I've met you twice on tour, and I know that I can be quite awkward around people in real life, and I am easily misunderstood. And because I overthink everything, I can think of one comment I made a long time ago that was intended as a lighthearted joke that might have fit into this category... I hope that I've never said anything to make you uncomfortable, and if I have, I apologize. Thanks again for your honesty and willingness to address this issue.

As a point of reference here, I'm 36, going on 37. I first got access to the internet in around 2000, so just shy of 24 years. Basically, I've had access longer than you've been alive. The issue is, I was 13 when I first got access, and I had this way of doing things where I'd just kind of osmose what I saw around me and incorporate it into my personality. In short: I was incredibly impressionable. So for 5 of my formative years, I had a nearly constant internet presence, and it's definitely impacted how I developed as a person, and not in a good way. I am HORRIBLY maladjusted, because when I first got access, it was back in what amounted to the wild west of the internet. People didn't really have anything figured out, so you'd stumble into some pretty off-kilter stuff. And let's be clear here: I'm a guy. And growing up in the internet age really did me no favors. But here you are, even after dealing with so much unnecessary...everything, really...and you're doing great. You come across as well-adjusted, well-spoken and it's genuinely good to see that you didn't let all of that negativity turn you bitter. Because I certainly let it pickle me a bit. It's an odd thing, being hostile and rude to people online, because I'm pretty polite in person despite my internet vitriol saying otherwise. But this is the core of the problem. I don't like seeing people sad or upset. For me looking like a grumpy scarecrow made with a burlap sack of flour and some sticks, I'm a softie at heart. Seeing people cry just hurts. But online, you don't typically see the consequences of cruelty and aggression on the person it's aimed at. And that makes it easier, not having to see what your anger and cruelty has done to someone. Online anonymity is a double-edged sword. It can help you keep your sanity when dealing with weirdos, but it also makes it easier for people to be ruthless.

It's mind boggling sometimes, when I started playing drums semi- professional in 1981 at the age of 16- there was only landline rotary and touchtone phones for home & phone booths! Computers were huge monstrous things that only the US Government/ Military had in Sub basements. I remember in 1985 ,my 1st cousin got a Apple computer in his room ( at that time it was just DOS ) - me I thought it was a waste of time of such limited use. But 1987 brought out the movie "War Games" and computer phone comms and different software programming into the music industry of production and recording. Back then your only way of exposure was playing any & all gigs... paying or not! And hope that an record label R&D person happen to catch a show for maybe a showcase - and back then musicians were a dime a dozen , and competition of talent extreme. Hell , until 1995 when Microsoft Windows PC was released, I was completely computer illiterate ( my good luck was my landlord at the time worked for IBM ) he taught me a lot about where the use of computers and networks was heading in the future, Especially cellphone communications! At 58 yo , I went through vinyl - 8 trac - cassette - real to real - CD - mp3/4 in audio. Betamax - VHS- CD-ROM, VDR in visual. Landline w/ the dreaded phone message machine - pager - cellphone 2g - 5g in telecom. What's coming down the pike soon enough is some real "Star Trek" shit , well if we don't nuke ourselves into oblivion 1st by the Communists & Fascists that control this country now inside & outside the US Government/Military/ Medical/ Media!

Hi Audra! You doing a great job! I’ll say it as an adult: over time you stop paying attention to negative aspects, it’s even easier to just ignore them) Better enjoy the funny moments of adult life :p

Two questions: Do you play any instruments? Do you have any tips or suggestions for someone who wants to learn how to sing?

I would really like to know "How hard is it to protect your music with copyright protection?" When you write a song what goes into that protection?

I'm sure you are strong enough on your own but, if you need support, I'm sure Addie from Halocene is a good friend/support system with Brad since they've probably been dealing with the same. My wife and I watch their live stream and people put some weird stuff in there

I noticed over the last year you've toned down how much you interact with YT and Insta comments and I understand why. People forget that the content creator doesn't know them and they're essentially a stranger. I worry that I've crossed the line in the past of what's appropriate to say, so I can somewhat sympathize with the weirdos. Maybe they don't realize how weird their behavior is? I admire your determination to push past it and continue with making music

You describing turning 18 reminds me of Emma Watson. She has a video on her 18th birthday where she is so happy and excited. Video then cuts to her desricbing how awful her 18th birthday was because the papers ran a pic of her getting out of a car that wouldn't have been legal to run a day eariler.
