You could always dig a tunnel from the chateau (basement/dungeon?) under the courtyard ...and then under the moat and under the large field which is opposite the chateau... that leads to and comes up inside an Gustave Eiffel-inspired Conservatory where you could escape in the wintertime to a tropical oasis-wonderland! There's actually one going to rack & ruin at an Art Nouveau palace really, called Château d’Aubiryclose, on the border of Spain I think. I presume it's iron and it is being destroyed by rust. If no one is willing to fix it, perhaps they may even give it away to someone willing to refurbish it. There are two large conservatories actually, connected by a stone corridor with large glassed-in arched windows. Many of the windows in the Eifel iron~work are broken. If they won't let you have it (not sure how you'd move it)... perhaps there are other antique conservatories that need saving? ...just something I've been envisioning every morning you open your window to greet the day... looking out at the courtyard... and I envision a beautiful victorian conservatory in that field... that could be surrounded by a traditional French garden outside it as well! 🗼⛲🗼 If you happen to read this, pardon me for daydreaming... but lately I've been living vicariously through your vlogs. ...then you're probably used to that! 😉 @@TheChateauDiaries

Much more renovating back then as nowadays (2024) its all about the people. We see the chapel being renovated snd the new heating system seems behind the scenes now Amaury quietly built the boiler room. Theres still the room to do which needs a beam/rsj (?) I just wish one episode would be about all the jobs still to complete to where she wanted to get to when buying the place.

just rewatching this.. goodness how the world has changed since. The amount of work that goes into making curtains of that size and the upholstery is quite mindblowing. Perhaps a vlog of the process? I would love to see how it's done Stephanie. A happier Michael here which is lovely to see. Just watched his most recent vlog and he is looking completely exhausted and unhappy. Think he needs to be bundled up and taken back to Lalande for a dose of Lalande happy magic dust and a big piece of Selmar's apple pie.

So beautiful! I just found your channel and can’t get enough of it. You are a doll! My husband and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary in October. Our plan is to fly into Paris, spend a few days and then drive down to Limoges to visit his grandmother and aunts graves and the take the train to Germany. I hope this pandemic clears up so that we can do that. I’d love to squeeze in a night at Lalande, we’ll see how life goes! I too, have Cinderella dreams and love the chateau beauty. Best wishes 💕

Omg hands down my favourite bedroom in the chateau, this is so incredibly beautiful in every way! Michael's trompe l'oeil panelling looks so incredible that on camera I couldn't tell they're not real. The fact it's a widely used historical technique is just icing on the cake :)

For all these...one must be able to have flair on arts etc. Skillful at sewing, cutting, painting and etc etc Otherwise it will be very costly to renovate....by third party contractor..etc

That’s very true, but I’m my case I learnt as I went along. I realised that I couldn’t afford to buy the curtains ready made (we have nearly 100 windows!) so I bought a book on curtain making and followed it carefully. And my father taught me how to wallpaper. Anyone can do these things, it’s just a question of taking the time to practice.

Hehehe I can never managed a sewing machine for a straight line sewing... My home science teacher knew I just don't have the apt for it. When all others advancing to sewing projects, I'm still struggling practising with a plain lined papers using sewing machine(dyslexic ???). Thank god my cooking marks helps the sewing .. or else I'd probably failed home science subject. When she was notoriously noted for being very strict in her class, she was very kind to me being the gone case. Hahahaha I can do others but not sewing. Never tried since then...😜🤔

I think the room is ok, but the yellow in both of the bathrooms is not at all relaxing. Terrible to do makeup by and not a room I would want to stay in. Bathrooms (even small ones) should be comfortable.

Sewing curtains for a normal size window looks easy but it's not. It's actually quite difficult because of the size and the amount of fabric. I find it much harder than sewing a garment. So I simply cannot imagine sewing curtains of this scale. It is an impressive feat. You are truly talented Ms Stephanie.

...yes that secret doorway is like a Narnia~esque metaphor for Stephanie's whole fairytale life ❣ Just stepping into her vlogs is a Narnia~esque escape. My daughter almost got a minor role in one of the newest Narnia series of movies. But since she was dating one of the major producers they skipped over her. He took her to the premier of the third movie (I think it was the 3rd), The Voyage of The Dawn Treader, where the eldest girl, Susan is in America and has a Big Band dance scene with a boy. Queen Elizabeth was at this London Premier and Sonya got to meet her, along with her longtime boyfriend Cary in the receiving line. She said Liam Neeson was there too... though I don't know why... he wasn't in the movie (I don't think anyway). My daughter was surprised that the children acted like real kids... I don't know what she was expecting... but were gracious and kind to her as well. She couldn't say which she was more thrilled by... meeting the Queen of England or going to a Narnia premiere. Sadly, her boyfriend got mugged on the streets of London just as he was planning on meeting Paul McCartney for a project.

To try and take the place of your wonderful daily Advent vlogs, which now that they are over 'Je suis desolee'. I've turned to 'Escape to the Chateau DIY' for solace, as I haven't seen any before, and it works because this particular one is fabulous. Full of interesting historical and decorative tidbits that are all new to me. Unfortunately I only crave more. Thanks Stephanie. Marianne, Chicago. I love this room. It is quintessential 18th century. Just like an illustration from an 18th century design catalog (the 18th centuryversion of our glossy design magazines). The end result is just stunning. Each of you who worked on it brought a different skill. All of your different disciplines came together beautifully to complete this gorgeous room. Bravo. Stephanie's decision to save every scap of fabric and wall paper throughout the last 15 years has paid off again. Adding the boarder to the curtains was crucial to tying the new fabric in with the original wall paper. Choosing to paint a piece of furniture is never taken lightly. However, in this instance, painting the bed was the best decision. All of the beautiful paint work made the room incredibly beautiful. Often times lacquered furniture feels too formal. Painting these pieces transformed these rather formal pieces from stuffy to casual and comfy elegance. The palette is cheerful and soothing. Often times cheerful is the opposite of soothing. I love cheerful in the morning. But when it's time to sleep I want soothing comfort. The colors used here does both perfectly. This room is a perfect example of how using three colors with a metallic accent makes all the difference. Often times we're afraid to use more than one color or any pattern at all. We've always been told to use soft goods for accent colors and pattern. As demonstrated here, we've been mislead. This room is timeless. There will not be an urgent need to redecorate this room in a few years. With a few changes to accent pieces in the room, this room will always be fabulous. Well done. Bravo. I am excited to see the entry hall and other projects when they're finally revealed after airing in Europe. I want to join the La Lande work crew so badly my teeth itch. Unfortunately, my physical abilities were stolen from me in a 2006 life altering fall. However, I am blessed because I am still here to enjoy the amazing skills and talents of others. And occasionally I provide my own unsolicited commentary ;-). Hahaha. Speaking of unsolicited... a piece of frosted glass on the cane side table used for tea service. But as you were throwing this room together with what you had in time for filming, you could not have done any better. You all polished and recreated this room incredibly. I can't stop praising the work. Just incredible. I hope to visit and stay in this splendid room. And the footman Robert's room. That room is a jewel box. As many of you noticed the beautiful old doors have warped with age. A lot of you would think to replace them. However there are two ways to save them. The cheapest is by simply reversing the door. Reversing is an easy option because the door knob and latch is surface mounted. Simply unscrew, reverse the door, and screw is back on. Depending on the hinge style, you may need to chisel out a recess for the hinges to fit properly. Again a local woodworker or shop can assist you with fitting the hinges and plugging the void where the hinges were previously mounted. If the woodworker is really disciplined, he/she may use the bits cut off for the hinges to plug the old hinge recess. For thicker or super dense hardwood doors, depending on how severe the warping is, reversing them may not be an option. The first issue being the door may not flex enough to close. If you can't close it, you're not going to force the door flat again. If they are too thick or reversing isn't an option because they are or will be stained rather than painted, find a local shop to steam the door. If time and available space is on your side you could lay the door flat during the humid months in a garage or covered area outside. Once the door is flat again, bring it inside to dry slowly in an unused room with little dry heat. Meaning don't put it near a fireplace or other dry heat source. Drying too quickly can lead to cracking and a even the return of the warp. I laid the door under my bed for from February to June. Because I keep my room at roughly 55°(13°) throughout the winter the room tends to be slightly more humid than the rest of the house. If the floors were clear under the beds in the other five bedrooms, I would have laid the door in one of them. But that's where I stash all of the spring, summer, and fall decor, as well as, well just about anything I "know" I'll have a use for. Basically I'm admitting I am a borderline hoarder. The attic is also a great place to start the process of flattening the warp. If one chose to use they attic, you could place the door there in the fall and retrieve it in late spring or early summer, depending on humidity trends in your region. Start with high humidity (fall) and retrieve when humidity is a it's lowest early to mid summer. Just be sure to check on the door from time to time. Many will be tempted to use weight to correct the warp. When doing so just make sure your not causing warp on the other end of the door. Thin doors made of soft wood can return to a warped position. For these door I recommend adding reinforcements to the back side with kiln dried hardwood 1x4 lumber. If the door is not used for a closet or a casual room, you could add decorative bits of wrought iron or such to strengthen the wood against warping while creating added interest and detail. Again a woodworker has a wealth of information and knowledge. He/she will help you decide if fixing the door is the best option; or replacing the door. Obviously some woodworkers are going to tell you hands down you need one of their custom made doors. Like with anything else, its perfectly fine to get a second opinion. Particularly if the door is original or has some value to you or the property. Cheap mass produced doors are never worth saving unless you're on a tight budget or an eco warrior. For some of you summer can be terribly humid. For you all this is the perfect time to correct warping in thin cabinet doors. Depending on the wood density of thin cabinet doors, you may need to add some flat thin brackets to keep the door from springing back to its warped position. For large cabinet doors prone to warping thanks to thin flat center panels, typically made of 1/8" plywood with species matched veneer, I cut out and replace this panel with glass. Glass is available in just about every color, texture, pattern, and strength you can imagine. If the center panel must remain, add a new piece of ply to the back to help keep the cabinet door from warping again. This new panel must be cut to fit tightly. DIY shops often will cut a piece or two for you. Use plenty of wood glue to bond both panels together. Spread glue over the entire surface. If you're adding screws you must always pre-drill. If not, you'll likely split the cabinet door frame. Good luck. P.S. Great job pointing out Michael is the creator and talent behind most of the designs claimed by a particular someone as her own. This individual is making vast sums selling Michaels designs as wallpaper, fabric, pillows, prints, blankets, and other goods without any credit or profit sharing with the original creator; a certain extremely talented Michael Pethrick. That said..... Micheal was employed by the individual and their production company for his talents. He signed away his rights to claim ownership over any content created for the production. The language of that contract seems to be in question. Did he create for use on the show? Or did he create for the purpose of the show and producing goods for resale? Were they selling products prior to Michael being hired? If not Michael was ignorant to the fact his design and artwork was for the purpose of retail sales. Meaning Michael would not have agreed to others profiting off of original artwork he created without a profit sharing agreement. We all sign similar waivers for our employers. I don't know the specifics of Micheals contract. I do know he was left hurt and felt used. It could be this was Michaels first experience with this type of job. As with all great fashion houses, housewares, and other goods and services, there are many creating behind the scenes. The likes of Martha Stewart, Hugo Boss, Steve Madden, and all of the others out there with their own product lines don't create all of the products themselves. They have dozens of staff creating for them. Its their job to create. Nothing sells like a household name. Many celebrities simply get a percentage of sales for simply claiming to have curated the product(s). Luckily for Michael, he has more talent in his pinky than most of us. With the right team protecting him from giving himself away again he is going to be very successful in whatever he does. That sweet man can do anything he sets his mind to. Its just a matter of organizing and protecting himself against being taken for granted again. He's grown from that. Yes, it's hard to trust others again. But now im certain he has all documents reviewed by his solicitor before signing anything.
