The minimum wages in Guyana is less than $100,000 Guyana dollars ( $500 US ) per month. Base of that fact, they are few rich Guyanese. Among the few rich Guyanese, they are some who earn their money and wealth the honest legal way, but the majority of them earned their wealth and money, illegally. Money laundering comes to mind. Drug trafficking comes to mind. Political cronies comes to mind. Some of those same crooks and criminals are respected businessmen, today, after washing their illegally money and making it, legit. For course, we, also, have the foreign base Guyanese who has a little bit more money to come back to Guyana and live a more comfortable life or just visit Guyana.

I'm so happy that you are helping to promote the real deal of the beauty of Guyana.Too many times the place is looked upon as a crime ridden impoverished nation with muddy roads and dilapidated homes.I seen countless KZbin videos of Guyana lately and the place is breath takingly gorgeous and this right here proves it.This country has it all to be on the tourism map just as much as Jamaica. It seems as the new president in charge who is young have a vision and fresh ideas to bring this nation more into the forefront. I definitely would love to make a visit.

What is killing Guyana is the rivalry politics. That has been the problem for the last century. Nothing for the country, just for personal gain. That is the problem with Guyana. With all the natural resources, why is the country so poor. They run the place like their own backyard and not a country.

These very rich people were denied jobs by a racist PNC government, led by a brutal dictator name Burnham. These people created generational wealth through hard work, sacrifice, integrity, credibility, honesty, sweat blood and tears... The did not have 5 child mothers, leave their children to be raised by their mothers, encourage their children to be decent law abiding, education is paramount... So don't jealous those that are enjoying their fruits after hard labor.

I have been going to Guyana for decades because my parents were Guyanese. The place has come a long way since my first visit and even since my last visit which was 25 years ago after politics crippled the country. It is a pity politics have made all the different groups of people leave. It used to be such a nice diverse country with so many different cultures contributing to its lifestyle. Tania, I have not seen your videos for many months. Are you planning to live in Guyana? I was surprised to see you here.

The only people who preach diversity are Black people. All other people are anti Black and put their own first and give Blacks nothing. Unless Black people adopt the same attitude they will always be at the bottom of any society--even in Africa! yes, that's right. Even in places like Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa,, Uganda, etc where the demographics ate somewhat like in Guyana (but not as much) one group of people have nothing to do with Blacks except taking their money and Black people are inferior in their own land.

The rich live in gated communities or secluded places. This is just a regular neighborhood in Guyana. If you didn't pass a gaurd post on your way in, it's not a rich or up class community. Because people aren't poor doesn't mean they're considered "rich".

Thank you for highlighting. The realtor is correct. The prices has drastically increased over the years due to the influx of expats in the country due to oil. It’s not prices middle class Guyanese can afford or even rich Guyanese. Rich Guyanese wouldn’t be renting. Middle class rental starts at 300-400USD for something decent which maybe a two or three bedroom apartment.Unfurnished and excluding all utilities. Kitty is popular for rental since it’s the heart of the capital but there are decent places on the outskirts of the town. Lovely neighborhoods and the town is generally small so it’s easy to get around from the central town to the outskirts. I hope you had a good time in the country, first time seeing your channel

Nice video Tania. You’re really taking in the sights and sounds of Georgetown. The title of your video is somewhat misleading. The rich in Guyana don’t hide out in residential areas. They don’t really hide out anywhere because there is no need to. As someone else pointed out in the comments, some of the older neighbourhoods which you visited are traditionally middle and upper middle class areas. The prices may seem crazy, even absurd to some. But this is the reality of a newly minted oil economy where new oil finds are being announced almost every other week. It’s mad how the real estate market has responded to that new reality but it’s all true. Understandably, some of your viewers will compare what was shown here to what you guys have in Jamaica. Understand something, these are residential areas in town. The mega mansions and real estate abroad are simply offensive. I won’t address infrastructure issues because that’s an essay in itself. At this point, Guyana is not competing with anyone in the Caribbean or elsewhere. That’s the confidence oil wealth has afforded.

Happy New Year Miss Tania and your Crew. Thanks for sharing Tanya Guyana with me. Based on what I have been fed, I thought Guyana was dirt poor or maybe they mainly focused on the most improvished areas. I'm impressed with what you have highlighted so far. At 15:38 that mint green/pastal colour house on the left resembles those houses in Cooreville Garden, on Washington Boulevard, Kingston 20 area in Jamaica. My concern is the water channel that runs in front of those lovely homes on the left, do they get flooded out wherever there's heavy rainfall.

I was a bit surprised about your comment. Maybe you never did any research or did not do a lot of reading about the country from the right resources and just got it from hear say. Politics in the country caused a downfall in the country's lifestyle and infrastructure and it also caused a braindrain and an exodus of their good citizens for a few decades starting from the 60's. The place is advancing again. I have been going to Guyana since I was a teenager and that was many decades ago. I did not see a dirt poor country any worst than the larger Caribbean islands that I had been to then. I have also heard someone from one Caribbean island call Trinidad small island in a condescending way yet the standard of living for the average person is much higher than the people in their island and most of the Caribbean islands. People need to get up and travel more. There are many videos on Guyana on KZbin. That is a place where people should start. Wikipedia also seems to be good for research although it depends on the average person for information. We have been deceived about Africa. They only show us the remote villages. Thanks to the African KZbinrs for showing the world their countries. Take a look at the city of Nairobi, how deceived have we been. It is even bigger than many U.S. and Canadian cities. Another problem is when people travel, how much do they really see of a country.
@islandgirl3330

I should have mentioned that Guyana being such a vast country with many mountains and many hugh rivers, there is water everywhere. There is nothing that can be done about it. They have learned to live with It, but unfortunately that is part of Guyana. Maybe the new oil money will help with the drainage system and flood gates along the sea wall. On the same note, The coastline is under sea level.

Not even the word indigenous is being used by these new colonizers. They refer to these original owners of the land as BOK PEOPLE. At minute 10+/- he showedd a house and said it was worth about $200M USD. He is definately joking. Not even Trump can get away with such mis-statements in the U.S. now a days. Please correct that. Not even the historic St Georges Cathedral is worth 10% of that.

Guyana is a greed place. No house in Guyana is worth 80 million Guyana dollars ( $400,000 US ). You can buy 3 houses or more in some places in the USA for 80 million Guyana dollars. And there is no way those houses worth $2000 US for rent. In New York City you can pay less $2000 rent for a rental. No Guyanese in Guyana is getting paid $50,000 US in wages or salaries. But yet they are selling houses for prices like if they are living in America. And they are renting rental for prices like if they are living in America. At least most people in America salaries or wages are at least $40,000 US - $100,000 or more, yearly. Guyana is all about greed. Most Guyanese, yearly, wages and salaries is less than $12,000 US and most are less than $8,000 US. But the prices for almost everything in Guyana is outrageous. How can Guyanese in Guyana afford those prices? They cannot.

Pauline Davis, 💖I agree with you!! The person had to made such a comment because Tania is Jamaican. Not knowing the wonderful work Tania has done helping poor people in Jamaica. I watched a video of an America visiting different countries. He was treated like a brother in Jamaica by everyone. To my surprise, it was in Guyana that he faced some danger of being robbed, the security had to direct him from one area. In Jamaica he went around freely and mingled with everyone all the people wanted him to do is to ‘chat Jamaican.’ 😇😍🌞
