I'm from Russia. And we were allies with the United States in World War II (and in the first as well). My mother was 14 years old, but she always remembered the American processed cheese that she took with her to the cinema in 1942. It was given to children on the advice of doctors. It was so delicious that she ate it and fell asleep in the hall. And an American film was shown - "Serenade of the Sunny Valley" with the Glenn Miller orchestra. Then she was hungry and very scared. But this funny musical movie, as well as American stew and cheese, saved many Russians. Glenn Miller's music, she loved all her life. He gave many the strength to survive. Why are we such enemies now?

Ive gone through many musical phases in my life. Rock, Soul, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Classic Country. More and more I find myself coming back to these big band/swing vids. These guys were the rockers of their day and its easy to see why it became so big. All those horns playing "decadent" music. The real, original wall of sound.

There's a binaural (= near-stereo) copy of the performance available on CD. It was reassembled from separate tracks that Fox had recorded to get better balance. Plus the frequency range goes up to something like 16 kHz, or almost high fidelity. It’s about as close to hearing the band live as any of us can be fortunate to experience.

Actually, you're not hearing what you're seeing. For a movie, they record the piece in a studio first. Then, they film the scene while the studio recording is playing on speakers on the set. The performers play their instruments, the singers sing their songs, all in sync with the playback. Since most movies in that era were filmed with one camera, they would do this several times using different camera setups from different angles and then the editor would work their magic to produce the final cut. It's still impressive and enjoyable, but you're not really watching a true "live performance."

February 12, 2014: From the 1963 graduating class of Paschal High School, Fort Worth, Texas--Happy 100th birthday to a great Paschal alumnus, the late Gordon Lee ("Tex") Beneke! You and Mr. Miller and all your associates did so much to boost the morale and determination of so many Americans during one of our country's darkest times. It was our parents' generation, and in memory of our parents and all other members of their generation--The Greatest Generation--who served the cause of liberty in so many ways, military and civilian alike, during and after that time, so that we might have the opportunity to enjoy the lives we have lived, we proudly salute you! Your wonderful music sounds as good today as ever!

When I was a kid my mother was working late and my grandmother took care of me during the day and she had this song and similar ones running on some specialized radio station all the time. I remember how I was laying on the floor, reading my uncle's 70s era MAD magazines and listening to this. I guess I wouldn't be into it if I wouldn't have this nostalgic connection to it, but a song that has somewhat stayed a part of culture for so long has to be objectively special.

The band brings back good memories of my father's orchestra. Growing up with the big band. I had a lot of good moments. It reminds me where I come from. miss those times. But I have to move on God definitely has a big plan for me.

I saw them in Brisbane in the '80s,( probably the same tour) Tex Beneke was leading the band. Paula Kelly Jnr was the female vocalist. They had the usual 'encore' at the end of the show. Tex Beneke thought we might like to hear their 'latest record'. It was 'In The Mood' - it brought the house down (Festival Hall) with people of all ages dancing in te isles. It was a terrific sound and I am so glad I heard it live. Many of the original band were there as well as Tex.

Music of the kind my late Dad liked to much to hear. It is a little from before my own time but I heard it frequently as my Dad had the record. And it is still good to hear and enjoy.

This tune and song was one of my late Dad's favorites. He really liked Glenn Miller and now I am old I understand why. I like the nice tones the musicians get from their instruments and how they are played in the exact time to make this a really great tune and song. And the words the singers sing are slow and thus easy to understand. Very good as now they sing so fast one barely understands what they are saying.

When i was a child, i always watched a movie called Babe: Pig in the city and it was the first time i heard this song. In the movie a duck flies to catch the plane and this song sounds in that scene. Also there are other songs that are remarkable like this such as That's Amore by Dean Martin. Amazing movie amazing song!
