Thank you for giving me permission to use a sewing machine to stitch a GFG quilt! I've been hand stitching those darn flowers for years! I'm slow due to arthritis...and distractions! Now I can see that it looks really cute to do it by machine too! Great video! I appreciate the precision with which you do your tutorials and projects.

Thank you for getting right to the point without useless chatter and wasting our time. Additionally, thank you that you don't have hideous "music" blaring in the background, and last but not least, thank you that your videos don't move in fast motion. You explain each step slowly, and thoroughly, in greatly detail and I truly appreciate that. While we're at it I love your hair, my style is quite similar to yours.

I have a handwork group at my quilt guild and last February “introduced” them to hexies (we sew everything by hand in this group). I gave them a choice if either a 2” or a 3” hexie thst I cut for them. One if my friends decided she didn’t want to hand sew them so at hime she pieced them just as we would any other quilt,block using her sewing machine and sewing only from point to point - she marked those points before sewing! The project is getting close to being finished (too only) and she’s done a wonderful job - plus her quilt will look like it was hand pieced but it really wasn’t. This is another option if a quilter doesn’t want any stitches to show on top. Oh and a quickie - Elmer’s Washable School glue with a special extra fine tip works terrifically, is much less expensive and easily found everywhere (except for the special tip!) and will wash out as thus glue is really just starch and water- he se washable! I do like your idea if sewing them together as it makes just a different but very nice quilt or other project! Thank you!!!

i appreciate this! i’ve done the hand stitching but developed tendinitis and arthritis and can’t hand stitch as much anymore 😢 Thank you for this; now i’ll be able to still make these hexagon projects! They’re soooo much fun!! 😊

I love this idea, I also started hexagons many years ago, since my hexagons are already together I think I will take your idea and sew the entire flower on to a background using your method. Thank you again for sharing.

I had the same thought! I already have ~20 flowers constructed by hand but now I have this new idea for finishing the top. Good luck with your project!

Kim, I like the stitchy look, and yes, I would not want to take the time to hand sew those hexies. Thanks for another excellent instructional video.

Thank you so much for this video. I have been putting off doing the hexy quilt started around 2005. Mine was suppose to be hand stitched also, some are but this is going to be sooo much faster.

Never made hexies because I do NOT like to hand sew! This is an excellent option and I think the stitchy look is attractive. BTW, your hair is so cute!!

Quick question for anyone - I prefer an open toe foot for any if my machines when I’m doing machine appliqué - so would thinking that this foot might be easier to see where to stop when changing direction - what do others think?

I do like to sew them by hand using vintage fabrics but am limited by the stress on my hands so this is a option. Rather than glue I think I will try the iron on quilt batting to give them a puffy look. I think I will use a bright contrasting color thread to be a part of the design.

I haven't worked anything out yet, but I wonder if fusible thread might be able to be worked into this technique?
@Chatterboxquilts4 жыл бұрын
You could use that to hold the pieces down but would still have to stitch them down with another type of thread.
