I love them all! I have a great respect for Hsin. I'm definitely buying these 4 chattering tools. Thanks!

I love hsin's videos so much I have the mud tools tool and for some reason chattering just doesn't work for me. Maybe I need to try to dry it out more

Hello and thank you for sharing look forward to seeing your videos and that chattering is pretty cool

Hsin’s pottery tools are excellent and are useful for so many more things than chattering. His videos demonstrate more of the tools possible uses
@EarthNationCeramics4 жыл бұрын
O yeah I think he trims with them too.

The various angles and shapes of the different tools are carefully thought out and are perfect for creating precise work. Every one of his tools is useful.

Hi Dante, glad you use us as an excuse to do fun stuff ! Super useful video, I was thinking of purchasing some and will take the leap! Do show us if you use them for trimming. Also I love the dots but to each their own! 😎

I've used these tools, I love chattering. I find that the condition of the clay(how dry) makes a lo of difference. Sometimes that makes more of a difference than which tool you use. So I dont think you can look at a pattern on one bowl and know that is what you will get everytime. The artisan pottery tools, chattering tools are also great, they are not trimming tools, so they only do one thing. But they are more beginner friendly, you dont need to hold them in such a specific way. I find the square tip one make that lovely deep basket weave effect. I have both and would be hard pressed to choose between them at this stage in my pottery journey.

Please view hsin videos using his tools. You can chatter 4 different patterns with just one of his tools. After viewing videos you will really understand how they are used. I think this video totally misrepresents what they do. You made many false assumptions about all the tools. Call him and learn about them. He is very nice.

I was going to suggest the same. He explains everything very well.
@nancycampbell68004 жыл бұрын
Gonna say the same. His trim tools have specific uses and only one of them is meant to be used as a chattering tool. I've never seen him use his other trim tools for chattering, ever. Sure, a person can use tools however they see fit, but the intention for each tool is very important and telling people that these are for chattering is misinformation.

Hsin is awesome. Now, I am not dissing on you. We all love you Dante; but, you and Hsin are very different potters. I mean, your Poke Ball is so much better than any Poke Ball has made. ;)

Can you chatter pottery at the same stage as trimming the foot? Asking cause the foot is wetter than the sides of the pot

I think I might make something like this from a hack saw blade... I wonder if making them longer would make it rebound slower, giving a wider spacing to the pattern.

Our chattering tools at the studio I belong to were all made with hacksaw blades. They work extremely well!

hey dante. i just wanted to ask how heavy you usually make your pieces? i’m a beginner and mine seem to be pretty heavy and bottom heavy for the most part. any tips?
@barbaramcclure-allen61364 жыл бұрын
You keep referring these as chattering tools. They are first and foremost trimming tools with which you can also chatter. You really need to look at his website. His talent and creativity is remarkable. His teaching methods are superb. You are good but you also have a lot to learn. JMHO.

ok, ive missed something i guess, leather hard for chattering?
@EarthNationCeramics4 жыл бұрын
I usually do leather. Leather soft will sometimes morph the body. But there is no shame in doing leather hard. If it works, it works.

the first video really helped me get chattering to work for me consistently, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

These are trimming tools - not chattering tools. If used correctly they produce far more elegant results. There are many videos showing this - e.g. part 1 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGLViomio76Xf7s
@osmanyreyes83734 жыл бұрын
I think you used them too long when chattering. Hsin uses them in a quicker motion. That’s why it kind of looks jagged on your pieces

Hsin is an amazing potter and not far from you. You should meet him.

Take some time out to learn how to chatter, with or without Hsin’s tools. Your technique needs help, you don’t need new tools. See Hsin episodes 555, 422, and 113.

You are not using them properly. Your hand needs to be static.
