Marathas were the ones who ended the atrocities of mughals and the mughal empire which was one of the cause of the decline of golden bharat other than Britishers. Yep it did took Marathas more than 150 years to fulfill chatrapati shivaji maharaj dream and until he was alive and marathas was there till 1850 most of India's were uncaptured by Britishers. They defended india for 250 years but later they the Britishers entered through the eastern bengal cost where a regional ruler named sirajuddin was rulling
