The one thing I don't think ppl have appreciated about JJ Redick is that he didn't just go home and vacation after retiring. He didn't detach from the game. He became even more obsessed with it. He studied it even more. He involved himself. His podcasts act as a sort of film room. He was a broadcaster, watching these games. He may not have coaching experience, but he's been as involved with the game as anyone not currently in the NBA. I believe in him.

Darvin Ham was literally one of the most incompetent coaches I’ve ever witnessed smh. Lakers just win the IST, so what does he do? Changes the starting rotation. No schemes or game plans, plays. Horrible bench and ATO management on the court. JJ won’t be even nearly as bad, he’s not ‘slow’
@a2daj83

@@pleasedonttemptme5963 but bro, don't you know, he took them to the post season for 2 years, he's a good coach!!! I hate that rhetoric, if people actually watched the Lakers games instead of just looking at numbers they'd know he was an awful coach. JJ will be better, for sure

@@a2daj83The average viewer of NBA is a ‘casual’ who doesn’t watch enough games or never played before on teams to even see the difference with Ham vs other coaches who cares what they say honestly. @pleasedonttemptme5963
@pleasedonttemptme5963 4 күн бұрын
@@a2daj83Also it was the play of LeBron & AD mostly that got Lakers to the playoffs both of these years, this fool Ham literally had us finish at #7 & #8 which is technically play-in Lakers had to fight to make it in, it should ‘never’ be like this for team with 2 All NBA players (Bron, AD). That’s why JJ in all honesty has such a low bar to clear. Being Top 6 in the West is it, literally something Ham couldn’t do one time even and he had two chances

I got to respect AD more after this. Hearing both Rob and JJ say how involved AD has been in this whole process really lets me know how competitive he is and how locked in he is right now on winning. If this past season he had wasn't enough motivation for a lot of doubters out there, I think this next season will be. AD quietly had a top 10 season in the league and no one said a peep. I think AD likes that. "Oh yall not giving me my flowers now, just wait and see" He's coming for another monster season bro. And like JJ said, he wants to use him more, especially late game. Good riddance to Ham sanwich, bro was a terrorist for our team

When you bring on a guy like this (think Steve Kerr) to an organization that has all the tradition, prestige, and resources that the Lakers have its a can't lose proposition. This guy is solid gold. The last few Lakers coaches showed so little ability to adapt to what the opposing team was doing on the court and Ham was one of the worst. There are so many people who have endorsed JJ in such a strong way and Coach K is such a great coach (and I hate Duke). Give JJ a chance for at least two years. I bet he finds a way to get the most from his players rather than the least (Ham).

Yea I like this move more than some. The Lakers front office has to empower JJ and give him the right staff and team for him to make the most out of. But JJ is able to handle the media scrutiny and everything else that comes with it. He is the first line of defense so to speak in protecting the Lakers brand. But this is like a larger company absorbing a smaller fast growing company with unlimited potential. JJ will be the Lakers HC for a long time.

The one ask I personally have of JJ is, don't be stubborn! Need for him to be able to make adjustments when things aren't working. Felt like Ham was stuck on doing things a certain way, even when it was clearly hurting the team. That all said, it doesn't matter what JJ does as a coach if the roster is weak. The next 1-2 months is SO important. They have got to add more shooting and big men. If not it's hard to imagine the Lakers can be significantly better than they were last year.

I think JJ well be a great coach eventually. I like this hire. I'm tired of the same old head coaches in rotation. The league needs new coaches with different philosophies. That's why I'm glad Mazzulla won because people will start taking more chances with new fresh coaches.

@@bradleydavies335 sorry if I insulted you and your boy. I’d like to preface this by saying that I played basketball in NYC in an all primarily black high school and got my nick name from the brothers playing at The Cage and at Rucker Park. I was so many tournaments with semi pro and pro players at Rucker that I can say at least I met a few people that actually knew Jerry West. So I never played Xbox or PlayStation. Maybe you can tell me about that.

I'm not a Lakers fan, but this is kinda sad. This organization has allowed Pelinka to hire a man who has never coached a game over the likes of Mark Jackson, Sam Cassell, Kenny Atkinson, hell even Dawn Staley, Becky Hammond and Theresa Witherspoon. It's not cool.

You just rattled off some names that you don’t even know if they want to be a head coach, let alone one for the lakers. This isn’t child’s play.
