If you know what you're doing you can usually troubleshoot whatever issue you're having with any tool or art supply. It's the inexperienced and the novice that can suffer because of it. If you're just starting out with a new hobby, technique, or medium and you buy cheap substandard materials, you can blame their poor performance on a lack of talent or skill and give up early. thinking the issue was your fault and not your inability to correct inevitable performance issues.

Recently I bought an used airbrush kit, my first, just because the compressor looked good and it had like 40 Createx/Vallejo colours. It came with one of these Fengda which I thought I would have to replace ASAP. But after the first session, I came to the same conclusion as you: I don't need more! especially to just fill stencils. Martin, could you please make a video about airbrush color dilution and different paint types? Thanks for many years of shared knowledge!

Been saying this for years, I have a friend who can't figure why my $35 airbrush has won more model painting contests than his $300 Harder & Steenbeck. It comes down to skill for sure but also polishing those cheaper needles till they match what you paid for with the more expensive brands. It's literally the only difference, the finish machining done before hand, which you can do yourself for free basically. I have 4 Timbertechs (Fengda) I use for general duty workhorse work and they never fail. Sanding the needles works but also using a metal polishing compound like Flitz really steps them up. Great video!

You have a very nice compressor. For needles i use tracing paper. The best airbrush is nothing without an excellent well-maintained compressor... and a cleaner solution for ultrasonic tank that has a plastic basket. I've had some airbrushes (principally 2 Paasche, 3 Fisher and 2 Iwata) for over 30 years for some and they still perfectly work. For some jobs, the most expensive is not necessarily the best. For a wide gradient, I'm going to use a good old Paasche. For skin texture or hair, a Fischer and his twin Iwata model to accentuate details. For me, the best airbrush is one that looks like my old airbrushes and fits well in my hand. The more expensive sometimes requires more maintenance.

omg thank you very much, this is the first time I see this on KZbin, no one has explained it in the video so far, and I've been watching it for three days, I'm a beginner and I have no idea what is good, I only know that I need three different colors for one model, now I know what I need for quick airbrush change, and it's also a very good thing for controlling how much the needle comes out and how much paint comes out, because the colors I use are expensive 9eur 60 ml, now I still have to find a compressor, I found a fairly cheap compressor vevor airbrus set $110 does not have an air tank. I can't find this anywhere on KZbin, I'd like some help, if that little Vevor compressor doesn't have an air tank and you can use the airbrush all the time without waiting for the compressor to fill up, then what's better about a compressor that has an air tank and you have to wait for it to fill up? that confuses me, do all the videos I've watched so far say buy a compressor with an air tank, it's a bit confusing, I'd like some help, thanks in advance for your answer

So bottom line, if I want to dip my toe into airbrushing by starting with simple model priming, a cheap airbrush is a much better starting point than dropping 200$ on a fancy one. Did I miss anything? Also What am I looking for in a compressor for miniature painting? If my goal is to get me a good compressor and I just have to worry about eventually upgrading the brush, what are the specifications I need to check for? How much does a perfectly fine and durable compressor cost for mini painting? Thank you.

@MedskiPurnamski Жыл бұрын
I've used cheap airbrushes to paint model kits for years and basically the only major issue I have is its durability. They're reliable most of the times but with normal use it will probably only last for about 5 years, tops. Sometimes the tip gets broken, sometimes it would start to have air leaks that you have to patch with beeswax, etc.
@GUnit2214Ай бұрын
That's impressive, if i can get 5 years out of a 30-40$ airbrush like this doing model kits I'm a happy camper.
@MedskiPurnamskiАй бұрын
@GUnit2214 yes but in my experience there are decent cheap airbrushes and there are really shitty ones, and sometimes you don't know which one you're getting. My first cheap airbrush only lasted a week. Generally though, any $15 gravity feed 0,3mm airbrush with a needle stopper on the back is enough for a beginner. I said it can last 5 years tops but in hindsight the more realistic number would be two years or less depending on usage and maintenance. But then again it's only $15. I would still recommend getting a good air compressor with an air tank because it really makes a huge difference compared to the usb powered portable ones and a better airbrush once you're more confident about your skills.

I own this pistol as part of the Fengdra comperssor kit. The kit as a whole is very nice for a starter, it has a compersor with a tank and water trap, house, the FE-130, some paint and sime cleaning brushes. All that for about 92 poud, 108 euro or 114 dollar. I am not an experienced airbrusher, so not in the position to thouroughly review it in any sensible way. However, regarding the FE130, what I have noticed, is that it's not happy with acrylic paints. A lot of tipdrying and clogging up.
@GUnit2214Ай бұрын
I am also a freshman of the airbrush but from what i understood reaserching, it's the acrilic paints themselves that are not fond of airbrushes. Hence why i heard most modelers for example to thin these kind of paints and do multiple light coats. Also use some aids like flow improver. Some even abandoned the acrylics because of this tediousness and just use lacquers.
@janklas7079Ай бұрын
@@GUnit2214 From what Ive learned so far, you really have to thin acrylics. More than one would think.

I use stencils/decals 95% of the time I pull out the airbrush, so no need for ultra high quality products. I have 6 cheap airbrushes in my drawer this includes Fengda, and my tip to you who buy a cheaper airbrush is do the following. 1. Buy 3 sets of needle nozzles in the size you want they are really cheap so there are no reason not to, just so you have spares and so you can match up the best nozzle needle set for your airbrush. 2. Look into the nozzle cap and make sure your nozzle is centered with as even spacing all around the nozzle as possible when the cap is on, that is also why you buy the 3 set nozzle needle sets so you can match it best possible. 3. Clean the nozzle caps for burs. 4. Polish the needle, I use chrome polish on a power drill CAREFULLY! dragging the needle backwards on the cloth. 5. Also adjust the inner needle nylon seal tightness, you do this by using a flathead on the inside of the brush look at the manual. I've done these 5 steps on all my guns and they all can do really fine hairlines now, you will be amazed on how much a difference these small tricks does to the performance. I just ordered a siphon one today, even though I have plenty I just couldn't help myself. I'm always excited to get a new toy :D

or you go to your local brand reatailer fo chineese airgushes who is doing this quality control for you ata a little premium ;-) Any of these Fengdas and other pseudo-Iwatas are ok provifind you are spraying solvent based airbrush designed paint. Can't deny that cheap airbrush can do 95% of work the expensive one can and will achieve great results however the quality of chinese airbrushes is lottery which for beginners isn't really good idea. It's really hard to learn on if you don't is what you are using is working properly. At least parts are cheap
