Great guide, worked the exact same on my 2018 A5, took 5 minutes. Car place tried to charge me $253 to change my engine and cabin filters. Did both for $60 with these videos and 15 minutes total in time spent on both.

I have 1.4 Turbocharged 35TFSI B9 A5 2020 Sline model, can I replace K&N AIR FILTER without getting check engine light, or do I need to get it tune to avoid any signs.. let me know thanks
@eriknauto3 жыл бұрын
Does the K&N sound different?
@ahoyskid Жыл бұрын
I’d say it would be a little more grunty, open sounding when you put the pedal down and have load applied. Probably no difference to the sound when idle revving. Unfortunately no difference in sound full stop Inc. throttle noise on the 3.0v6 diesel. Petrol, for sure. It’ll add noticeable grunt.

On the 3.0tdi v6, I get a check engine light when I run the K&N, looks like the exact same part. Unexpected airflow. Replace with OE Mann filter etc, check engine light turns off. Annoying…

can you do a review of your car as a whole, what you like,cool tricks and any tips for interested buyers, also cost of managing, btw can i use regular fuel on this car
@DIYDetail5 жыл бұрын
Definitely can! It's currently winter where I am so this video will probably come out in the spring. I've owned the car for about 1 year so far and the only thing that failed on me was the engine mounts, which were covered under warranty as a certified pre-owned. With German cars, the key is maintenance. You have to follow the Audi's maintenance schedule to avoid costly repairs down the line. Unfortunately, you have to use premium gas. It has a twin-turbo, which requires gas that can resistance pre-mature detonation (essentially the gas burns before it actually gets into the piston thereby causing engine knock).

After how many kilometers should you change the filter?
@DIYDetail3 жыл бұрын
After 20,000 kilometers (12,000 miles) is the general rule. If you’re using the K&N filters, you just need to clean it, not change it
@chavenyenketswamy14983 жыл бұрын
@@DIYDetail I opened up the filter housing and vacuumed all the insects and dirt. It was actually quite easy to remove. Recommend all owners to do the same instead of waiting for a service interval.
@DIYDetail3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, every year around October I clean out so many leaves and insects. Wish Audi had a screen to prevent those leaves from entering the housing in that first place
@darkspeed62 Жыл бұрын
@@chavenyenketswamy1498 They actually don't change these as standard on service intervals, so you either have to do it yourself (Not sure why you wouldn't as it's so easy) or actually ask them to replace it.

Why spend 3 times the money getting a K&N filter when they (and all other after-market filters) have been proven to only match or even reduce the performance of this car? The K&N air filter is a waste of money on any turbo-charged car. You should know this!
@DIYDetail3 жыл бұрын
I agree and disagree with some of your statements. I have a Stage 1 tune on it and took it on the dyno Stock: 260 HP Stock + K&N: 268 HP Stage 1 + K&N: 318 HP If you plan to keep it stock, then sure it may not make sense to spend more money for a slight increase in power. The biggest benefit is not having to rebuy a filter each year (spend $8 to clean it and you’re done vs. $20 for a new one). There’s plenty of videos and research articles showing that it mostly increases HP, haven’t seen many cases where it decreased HP. In my case, I have a Stage 1 tune. Without the filter, I was estimated to get 306-314 HP. But I ran the dyno with the filter and the tune and get 318 HP. That definitely made a difference for me, so it’s worth it even at 3x cost

Manufacturer recommends to replace engine air filter every 60K miles, which seems way too long to me. Especially because it's so easy and cheap to replace. How often is everyone replacing it?
@ttzzaa5 ай бұрын
I would trust the filter manufactures recommendation since they know there materials best which is once a year or every 10K miles.
@clintonmccool23302 ай бұрын
2021 A4. I do an oil change every 6 months (5k miles) and replace the air filter at the same time. On a side note, I don't pay attention to the 10K oil change recommendation either due to the engine being turbocharged. It's well known that turbochargers break down engine oil much faster than non-turbo engines. The cost of an extra DIY oil and air filter change in a year is pretty low and pretty easy. For the relatively small extra money spent, it's absolutely worth. To me, once you're in the realm of owning a performance or luxury vehicle of this caliber, it makes no sense to nickel and dime it when it comes to maintenance.
