@@yeshua1176 The number of rounds those Nitride or phosphate barrels can shoot before they need to be replaced is subjective. A lot of people argue 10-15000 rounds but there is no concrete evidence. It mostly depends on the type of ammunition and how the gun is operated. Heat is the barrels worst enemy when it comes to longevity. Basically, if you like to shoot slow and every now then do some rapid fire but not so much to subject the barrel to extreme heat, then your barrel will last longer than the guy who constantly does mag dumps or lots of rapid shooting subecting the barrel to extreme heat. I will say this, I've noticed that the heavier profile barrels and cold hammer forged barrels tend to group better than lighter, non chf barrels as they heat up. Either way, it's a good thing barrels are easy to change and can be fairly inexpensive.

@@BobMarley-dk9hn The truth is a standard entry-level AR15 is practically identical to the M4. The only differences are select fire (the M4 has a three-round burst setting) barrel length (the AR's barrel is 16 inches while the M4's is 14.5) and the trigger (an AR has about 6-7 pound trigger while our service rifles had a 10 pound trigger). A civilian AR is actually slightly better (sometimes more than slightly) than our service rifles. Almost nobody ever uses burst in combat, so select-fire is a moot point. ARs are perfectly good rifles, and the .223/5.56 is plenty powerful. Civilian AR owners are using the same rifle, and the same way as servicemen, for the same purposes. I've been saying it for years, since leaving the Army where I was an armorer. An AR is an AR is an AR. They're all made to mil-spec standards from the same barrel of parts, just under a different name. The forging plants are the same ones that make all AR parts for all manufacturers. The only real things you're paying for is name brand and finish. Now, the brands do their own millings, but unless you're buying from a brand that's never been heard of, it's all still mil-spec. The only pieces I put any sort of value into are the barrel and the bolt. Everything else can be solved easily. I love my Anderson AR's just as much as my Aero's. Why? Because they're essentially the exact same gun. Don't even get me started on 1911's. lol
@morgan36885 жыл бұрын
That is true untill you talk about dedicated manufacturers like Faxon, and when you understand that the final machining is what dictates quality due to tolerances. There is definitely a gradient of value, i.e. DD ars are not worth 2k, and cheap ars punch above their cost for value. But a 1k custom build will beat the hell out of a 450 off the shelf ar.
@chzzyg26985 жыл бұрын
@@morgan3688 I agree, an Anderson AR isn't going to compete with a Faxon due to their extra detail work on the bolt, barrel, and finish, but you can take a Faxon bolt and barrel and still get that same accuracy on an Anderson rifle. I've got a frankenstein build, a literal smattering of completely different brand parts, with a Faxon 1:8 barrel, and that thing shoots quarters at 100 meters. The receivers are melonited and it has an HK buffer tube with a teflon coating for extra reliability in a combat scenario that will never happen. lol. I've also got an M16 clone that I just finished made with Anderson receivers, a WMD barrel, and RCA bcg that shoots about the same by eyeballing it. As long as I keep the M16 clean and maintained it'll do about the same as its brother. I put most of the value in the bolt and barrel for reliability and function, then the finish second for continued reliability and protection from the elements, and I could care less who made it most of the time since I'm all about custom builds for fun'sies anyway. I went way off track. I guess in the end I agree with you, I just like talking about AR's over coffee. My custom builds usually end around the $1k mark. Cheers.
@morgan36885 жыл бұрын
@@chzzyg2698 Yeah, you can put a real nice gun together with a mediocre upper, good bcg and bolt, excelent barrel and decent HG. I can't speak about psa ar15s. But I do own a psa a9 carbine. And I'll be completely honest I was supprised at how well it pteformed. And it did so well that it's become my primary home defensive weapon. It feeds the 124 grain plus p plus hollowpoints with no issues at all. And I put a dot scope and a streamlight protac HLX weapons mounted light and laser. And a feature I really like is my ar15 uses smith and wesson md. 76 magazines and last round bolt hold open. And out to 50 yards it will hold a quarter inch group. And no it's not a replacement for my Springfield Armory saint ar15 carbine. But at realistic ranges the ar9 would be tasked to preform. It works just fine. And I can practice at my local indoor range with the ar9. One change I did make on both was to remove the from sights from both and added Trijicon ar15 night sights on both. So is my ar9 carbine just a range toy, not at all. It has better all around accuracy than my handguns, due to it's longer site radius and three points of contact. It's reliable and with the exact same features as my ar15 I can easily train will the 9mm and transition to the ar15. And while a lot of individuals can't see the benefits of a ar9 carbine. It's most effective in the same role as a submachine gun in certain situations. And with better accuracy than any handgun. And it's fun to shoot.

Well I’m glad to hear these guys mentioned the twist rates on the guns , the twist rate makes all the difference in the for accuracy . Psa is a 1.7 twist requires heavier bullets for better accuracy , ruger is a 1.8 twist which is what I prefer for the simple reason being 55 grain is the most common bullet in the stores and in a pinch most stores will be out of the 55 grain leaving the heavier 62 grain on the shelf because it’s usually more expensive , the M&P uses a 1.9 twist and is best for lighter bullets and the most common 55 grain in the stores . I went with the 1.8 twist on my ar platform and I can effectively run anything from a 55 grain up to a 75 grain with a 1/2 inch group at 100 yards .

Specifically a 7.5” ARV that takes scorpion mags with the enhanced polished trigger. To me it seems to be a good entry level weapon and honestly just good in general. My grandpa didn’t have anything bad to say about it but he only fired 35 rounds. But even my uncle who does weapon instruction at Ft. Bragg likes it. Although he did say we might have to swap the trigger out at some point and we can go from there 😂 I’ll also say it doesn’t play the best with steel cases ammo which is something I heard beforehand. But I picked up a cheap box of 115gr tula anyway and out of the 50 I had 4-5 failures to feed. It was also a brand new gun so, after some break in that’ll hopefully change. But with brass it’s no issues so far. So I rock with PSA. Even picked up a PSAK47 gf3 around Black Friday since it was on sale. Shoutout to a company putting cheap quality American made firearms into the hands of Americans. That always deserves respect.

I (mostly) buy my rifles like I buy my suits: off the rack, then tailor as needed. I have that one special AR that I built from the ground, up, using the best of the best parts, but generally speaking my PSA, S&W M&P-15 [not the "sport"], DPMS, Rock River, and various pistol builds all perform as needed. I have them set up for various specific functions, and they work. But off the rack, value + performance, I don't think you can do better than the PSA. Thanks for the video. Modern produced, especially mil-spec, ARs will function at least to the quality of issued M-16s or M-4s. They're new. They haven't been through tens of thousands of rounds in whatever use military rifles are accustomed; and mil-spec is the minimum specifications to meet requirements. It's just well enough to work. Our 16s rattled like crap and still functioned. The bickery of an aftermarket plastic sight might not be rugged enough is outweighed by asking if someone would have faith in such frailty with low crawling, bounding overwatch movements and especially butt striking someone. Maybe I was just in when it was more rugged and less flash. As for not having a forward assist, half-charging using the charging handle usually works if you don't have a functional forward assist. Just as you hold the rifle with your left hand and remove your right hand to strike the assist, instead pull back on the charging handle about 1/3-1/2 length of the casing so when you let go the round is hopefully sent properly into battery. Don't pull back too far or you'll eject the round. It's what you'd do if forward assist didn't work. Also, it's still a rifle that shts where it eats with powders blown back to bolt anyhow

What would be better is to take a budget of $3500 and one have one side go "high end" and the other "low end" outfitting as many guys as possible followed by a war game. Putting budget ARs in the hands of 3-5 guys with 4-5 mags each, and a budget red dot (and maybe one DMR setup) would absolutely overwhelm anything a single guy and a high-end AR would be prepared to handle. I read lots of comments about needing really expensive "war fighting / battle" rifles but overwhelming firepower will almost undoubtedly beat the marginally better performance of super-expensive rifles. Plus you have added capacity and depth to deal with equipment malfunctions. If you have a tight family or group of friends that you can trust you'd have yourself a nice little squad to deal with a LOT of SHTF scenarios. 5 PSA Freedom rifles...$1750 20 Pmags...$200 Case of 556...$350 Slings...$100 Red dots (4 @ $150)...$600 Budget scope (DMR option)...$350 Budget LBV...$250

@@Vicarium I used to have your same thought, and still do sorta. However, it's a completely unfair comparison. 1 guy vs 3-5 guys is a comical way to prove your point as it would be the same if that 1 guy can get a tank and his high end rifle vs those 5 guys with PSA rifles. I suggest 1 guy with his high end rifle vs 1 guy with his budget rifle, extra mags, ammo, optic and most importantly.. training! I'll take a guy with a budget build by my side who has actually trained with his rifle vs someone who just spent a lot of money on one and shoots paper at the range every now and then. I hope you understand what I mean and use it in your further statements as I've come to find out that it is the best thing to be said in these type of discussions when debating price. Happy shootings!

@@tacticoolcommando7305 we're talking total budget constraints as a discriminator when the inevitable comparison arguments are made between high dollar and budget ARs. I don't think resource considerations are the least bit comical and as obvious as my example is, the point is lost on many.

The best thing about the Ruger AR556 is the fact it has a 4140cmv cold hammer forged barrel. A couple things of note: PSA is PSA. QC is what it is and specs vary wildly across their offerings. Smith and Wesson publish almost no specs on their offerings. The barrels are 4140 (testing unknown) and the unknown bolts are marked MP. They do nitride both their barrels and BCGs though. Ruger on the other hand lists quite a few specs. BCGs are 9310 shot peened and hpt and use hammer forged barrels that are also hpt. There seams to be major confusion as to what the bores are protected with (if anything) though. Edit: Looks like stepping up to Rugars MPR line gets you a barrel that is Nitride. With all of that known the M&P would be my pick for a rifle in the $600 range. (not exactly excited about the 1-9 twist though) (in 2021 a basic PSA is $650 also) and Ruger doesn't protect their barrel bores at this price point.
