I love the sounds in the reverb and fuzz section of this video. I learned guitar from a jazz player who drilled it into my head that I have to learn my chords if I really want to understand music and guitar playing, but there are parts of the songs I write that feel like they need to be pushed in an ambient way. I played Loveless for a friend who came over today and he really enjoyed it, and it makes me feel like I'm going in a shoegazey direction. Thanks for the great video! It's given me a lot to think about.

@@pedalpartners That's an interesting coincidence. Thanks for response! What are some good pedals to get that swelling sound? I was thinking a small clone into a reverse reverb would be a good place to start. My current set-up is very minimal, it's an echoplex preamp going into two SD1's. A lot of people stack overdrive pedals and I thought this would be a good place to start looking for my sound.

You got some real cool sounds here, and the visuals are great as always! I feel like we're living in a golden age of effect pedals in all price ranges. A kid starting out today without a lot of disposable income can buy a Zoom Multistomp and pair it with one of those great Chinese mini clones of the RAT or the BD-2, and if they're creative with their effects use there's instantly an infinite array of cool, weird, and dreamy sounds available at their toetips.

What's kind of funny is, back in 94 when I got my first four track machine, I made a zillion short demos with crazy ass guitar sounds very much like these, but was not even aware of Shoegaze as a genre/style. In fact, I was a metalhead, in a very heavy band, but just made sound collages for fun. I love these bands now, since finding some of them several years ago. Any love for Curve?

@jmiller08 Sadly, those cassettes are long gone. What really crushes me is that I no longer have _any_ copies of the six song EP my old band, Slave 2, made with that same four track in 1992. We got showcase gigs and overseas offers to tour based on that EP, but because no one in the band was over 16, and two guys ended up quitting, it all fizzled out. Slave 2 was like Sleep meets early Monster Magnet with classic 60s pysch production. It was better than it should have been, given our ages. The last cassette went missing around 2001. We only made 20 or 30 copies. Ah well, life has been good anyway haha

I was considering the Holy Grail Max in order to get the reverse mode, but then came across another less expensive reverb, the Joyo R-14 Atmosphere, which has 9 verbs including reverse. I just received mine and will be trying it out in the pre-dirt position.
@pedalpartners4 жыл бұрын
ah that must be fairly new from joyo. looks interesting, i take it those nice shiny knobs are plastic though? intrigued what modes such as forest, comet & pulse do? i also take it that rewind is reverse?

@RandomButtonPusher4 жыл бұрын
@@pedalpartners As it had just arrived in the mail with 3 other Joyo pedals, I actually had to unbox it to provide answers. A quick session without any other pedals involved, signal path -- Godin A6 Ultra, Atmosphere, Roland JC-22 with no amp reverb or chorus: Plate, church, & spring -- pretty standard, clean. Eko-verb: just what it says. Shimmer: Similar to that on my MXR 300, a chorus-y, octave/harmonic wash with a flute-ish upper register. Comet: Flanged and modulated. Rewind: Modulated reverse -- not sharp edged or aggressive. Forest: Chorus and vibe/rotary modulated. Pulse: Tremolo modulated. You get tails on/off toggle, small tone and modulation knobs -- the latter affects each mode a bit differently, such as tremolo speed in pulse. The mix and decay large knobs (chrome plastic -- firm and solid feeling) speak for themselves. First impressions are that the name Atmosphere is well chosen. The non-standard modes come through in medium to higher mix levels definitely as ambient wash/pad effects. It's digital and generally chilly, even with the tone turned toward the low end. Next: See how it plays with others.

Any other cheap delays besides the Behringer dd400? It doesn’t seem to be widely available for less than $50-80

It's a bit more, but the TC Electronic Flashback 2 (or 1) is good. The mini version is cheaper, so maybe go for that

ZOOM MS70CDR has all the modulation, delay and reverb you could need

they seemed to have discontinued the 400 but you can pick up the dd600 brand new now. i've seen some dd400s on ebay here in the uk for as low as £10 so that might be your best bet, i picked up mine there for less than £20. the other alternatives people suggested are also pretty neat. you could also try the prophet by tc, it has a similar sound.

I use a Valeton Coral Echo, a digital modeling delay that has 11 types of delay, it sounds amazing and I paid it 30 € on AliExpress

The ammoon pockverb is cool, it has like 8 delays and reverbs and it's like 50 bucks. They have a delay only model as well

Great sounds but people need to stop looking backward. Regressive hokey nostalgia. Time to make some new kinds of music people...
