making homebrew wild and cheap

hey home brewers,
here i am making my other half's berry tea wine, it's 12% and just what the lady ordered :)
it's a pretty simple recipe that works out about £1.50 per gallon and that makes this a very nice wine to make.
I used 22 zingy purple berry tea bags that I brought from Morrison as i found these to give a great flavour.
1kg of sugar
2 ripe bananas
300 ml of blackberries
This is a quick drinking wine rather than one that needs to be aged.

Thanks for this! An enjoyable video, very clear and lively. I'm an absolute learner, had no idea you could use fruity tea bags for wine! Is this fine to drink when it stops fermenting, or do I need to bottle it up and leave it a few weeks/months afterwards?

Hi, can you show how to make tea wine without any special yeast added? Like, after bottling the tea in the jug, can I just let it ferment? Should I always leave the cap on or open every day to let it breathe? Good video

hi and welcome :P it's always best to add a yeast to your brews, trying to use a wild yeast culture does have mixed results.( molds, off taste) until you have a good foundation in home brewing it should be steered clear from. :) the demijohn lid should never be sealed when fermenting, while it takes a little practice the lids are on but loose enough so gas can escape or it will go boom! hope it helps

alright my homemade tea wine / cranberry raisins / Mandarin oranges is still bubbling after 7 days will it ever end? LOL I did use a whole packet of yeast in a 2 gallon container about 3 days ago I added about a half a cup of sugar and it went completely crazy and foamed to the top of the container and then went down real fast

lol, it should go on for another week or 2 yet , you have to let your minions do there job :D some times it does foam like mad for the 1st couple of days, nothing to worry about and can even be useful depending on your brew. sounds like a good combo, you can never go wrong with craisins

No measurements. 👍 Do you know how long it lasts, can I sterilize everything the night before and then use it the next day? Also, do you think rinsing is necessary? I read that rinsing with tap water can cause contamination.

never a problem. it is pretty simple, the bleach is concentrated so it only takes a very small amount per gallon. the glug and squirt method is ample. I always keep to "it's only sterile at the moment you do it" it's a little over kill but it is one less thing to worry about. rinsing is very necessary, bleach is harmful to humans and yeast! :) the thing you have to keep in mind is everything we do after the moment of sterilizing contaminates your equipment, demijohns ect. even the air contaminates all of it, we are trying to tip the scales in our favor by introducing our own contamination ( yeast) so it out preforms the very tiny amount of contamination that will inevitably happen.

indeed you can, mixing and matching is what it's all about. you can mix normal tea with all sorts of fruits to great effect or mix and match fruit teas. i personally like the lemon and ginger tea with cheap honey for a simple ginger beer or wine :)
